2023 Offseason Potential Targets (FA and Trades)

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
This is about the only JA trade I've seen that I'd consider...and its cause of that #10 pick...

I think the only draft ones I'd actually consider would probably be with Orlando or Houston. Keep in mind, I'm just looking at these as frameworks so they may need other pieces to even out. Something like:

- Allen & Okoro for Sengun & #4

With the amount of cap space Houston has, they could make this trade and still have space to sign a max contract player if they wanted to. Allen & Okoro fit the identity Udoka is going to want to establish and both are still young. The Rockets don't have any type of rim protection or a perimeter defender, so both pieces actually fit. Cavs get an offensive-minded big that can facilitate. Sengun has also shown the ability to step out of the paint and shoot the ball, though his range isn't extremely deep yet. I'd probably try to flip #4 for a wing or a combination or rotational pieces. If I couldn't do that, Jarace Walker might interest me the most at that slot.

- Allen for Wendell Carter Jr & #11

#11 is likely putting us out of the range of some of the guys that'd be good rotation pieces, but the pick could be flipped in another deal for a wing(s). I'm guessing the Magic wouldn't value JA that much higher than WCJ, but who knows?

If either of those deals are on the table, I volunteer to help people pack and move...and I'm a BIG JA fan...

Taking a gauge for what people deem a successful offseason..

If the Cavs—
- Re-LeVert
- Give full MLE to Josh Richardson
- Give full BAE to Thomas Bryant
- Trade for Royce O’Neale (say Cedi, multiple 2nds and Travers)

Would you deem that successful?

I think that would be in the realm of more realistic offseason possibilities but we also know this offseason may be mired in player movement so some things that don’t look available may be actually available..
I would love this. Would prefer getting a stretch big that can shoot instead, but I get the reasoning behind going with Bryant. I would offload Okoro if need be to get a stretch big in addition to the above. All of the team's depth and shooting problems would be solved with these imo.

Then you load up whatever assets you have left and wait to pounce on an SF with size while the core develops with experience. Not much more you can do.

Hopefully JBB doesn't finish it off before it has a chance though because I have negative faith in him and believe he is now harming roster potential and development.

Those are likely not too realistic, but this... while quite unlikely actually doesn't seem all that crazy to me...

Cavs Get: DFS, O'Neale, Bol Bol
Nets Get: #11, Okoro, Isaac, 2 Cavs 2nds
Magic Get: Allen

Cavs: Would need to add a starting C, but Bol Bol is a great 3rd big on this team. Moving Allen and getting a third team involved lets us add two versatile wings.

Nets: If they're resigning Cam, cutting Isaac immediately helps them dump $10M+ from their overall cap number as his deal is partially guaranteed. Okoro gives them a young perimeter defender they need. They also get #11 and two 2nd's, all valuable given their pick status. They're using their wing depth to shed some money and add picks and younger players to continue retooling around Bridges.

Magic: Magic add rim protection and get out of Isaac's deal. Since Allen would push WCJ to the bench, Bol Bol isn't needed as much in their rotation.

PG: Garland, Rubio
SG: Mitchell, LeVert
SF: O'Neale, DFS
PF: Mobley
C: (??), Bol

Obviously have an issue at center, but now you're in a spot where you can give someone like Reid the full MLE and a starting spot on a playoff team. Other teams might offer more money, but they won't be able to offer that.

I would be less surprised if the Magic cuts Bol Bol this off-season than if he is traded for anything of substance.

That is just an awful trade for the Cavs. DFS was worse than Okoro last year

Cleveland receives: Jalen Green, Jabari Smith, Ja'Sean Tate, Tari Eason & 4th pick
Houston receives: Donovan Mitchell

Why?
Cleveland adds much needed wings to the roster.
Houston goes all in on Mitchell to try to lure Harden.

I was ready to type "no" at Jalen Green, but would consider this for the rest. Swap Green for another pick, or flip him to another team. Also, this squad would need some *serious* vet leadership, and lots of dudes would need to be waived to make room for a 5-for-1 deal.

Why would they give the Cavs Green & the 4th pick for 1 full year of Mitchell before having to deal with his free agency stuff ?

Houston going “all in” on Mitchell & Harden to make a play-in tournament is laughable at best.

If you’re the Cavs DO YOU SAY NO ?

I probably couldn’t turn it down, but I don’t necessarily love the idea of that much youth on this team. If Houston was willing to put up that many assets I’d try to rope in a third team that would net us a vet at SG or SF.

I’d not super high on Green and would only definitely want to keep Jabari and #4. Would be fine with trading any of the other pieces and anything else we have that isn’t Mobley or Garland.

But yeah, I think Houston might want Allen and Mitchell for that kind of package. Just doesn’t make sense for them to trade that much just for Mitchell.

I don’t say no as a Cavs fan for a couple reasons.

#1 I’m not convinced Donovan Mitchell is that guy that can lead a title contending team. I think this team is more than capable of being dealt a gentleman sweep in the playoffs without Mitchell on their roster just as much as they were with him.

But I think that goes for any team bringing him on as the main piece….I don’t believe he’s a true #1 star and don’t think he has the kinda game to be an effective #2 role (at this stage of his career)

#2 I don’t say no cause it’s quite the haul. A top 5 pick, a versatile blossoming player in Jabari Smith and you get Jalen Green as well ?

It’s a no brainer… There’s no way Houston even considers it…
