Last game of the year and it's meaningless as we will finish in 3rd place no matter the outcome. However, it's one last chance to salvage a few shreds of self-respect against Tiger starter Eduardo Rodriguez, who has treated the Guardians like children this season. In three starts against the Guardians his line is 21.2 innings, 12 hits, 1 run, 3 walks, and 24 K's. The G's are hitting .162 against him. He sets them down effortlessly inning after inning without breaking a sweat.
Rodriguez has a 3.91 ERA in his starts against all other teams, so he's a good pitcher but nothing exceptional. The Guardians have one last shot at doing something against him.
Rodriquez got off to a great start but has been ordinary the last three months. In April and May his ERA's were 1.72 and 2.03. Then he was out for five weeks with a ruptured pulley in his finger. Since coming back his ERA is 4.50 in 14 starts. I wonder if he never fully recovered.
This will also be a chance for a few Guardians' hitters to salvage a little respect. Jose is hitting .152 against the Tigers this year. Kwan is .205, Gimenez .195, and Josh Naylor .100 (2-for-20). The Tigers' pitchers have dominated the top of our batting order.
Today will be the 9th start in 13 games by a left-handed Tiger pitcher against the Guardians. If the Guardians don't solve their inability to hit lefties the Tigers could win 8-9 games against us next year as well.
