2024 - 2025 Guardians Off Season Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I always keep going back to our budget.

Flail between we did so well this year, bottom 5 in budget and we’re in ALCS

To we’re near the bottom in budget can we get some HR hitters now? We made the ALCS and got out gunned.

Overall, amazing season. I feel that we go against the grain in the age of long ball and the hitters were raising/signing.

Probably just being pessimistic at the moment.

Always go back to what just a “little” more money could accomplish.

Only guys with guaranteed money next season are:
  • Jose Ramirez ($19 mil)
  • Andres Gimenez ($10.5 mil)
  • Emmanuel Clase ($4.9 mil) - absolute bargain regardless of his shitter postseason
  • Trevor Stephan ($2.9 mil)
Everybody else is a FA, up for arbitration, or are in pre-arb.

Per Sportrac, here are some estimates for our guys looking to get paid in arbitration:
  • Josh Naylor ($14.2 mil)
  • Lane Thomas ($7.8 mil)
  • Steven Kwan ($4 mil)
  • Triston McKenzie ($3.3 mil)
  • Ben Lively ($3.2 mil)
  • James Karinchak ($1.9 mil)
  • Sam Hentges & Eli Morgan ($1.3 mil)
I think a main priority should be inking Kwan to a long-term team friendly deal. Six to seven years.

The Dolan family should really put theirselves out of their own misery.

We’ve had serious runs at a WS win multiple times in the last 10 years or so and you gotta really come to terms with a low budget spending owner.

Luck doesn’t work in baseball. It takes an abundance of talent to get you over the mega teams like the Yankees or dodgers.

Either we start spending or we’re just going to roll the dice on extra bargain players to get hot at the right time, every time. And that hasn’t work. And it won’t.

Bring in proven talent or else is this cycle really never ceases.

Pretty much. To bad we didnt have spending like our other 2 sports franchises becuase this front office is good. Imagine if they had the money to spend what they could accomplish.

Guardians (9)

Josh Naylor (5.127): $12MM
Lane Thomas (5.014): $8.3MM
James Karinchak (4.099): $1.9MM
Triston McKenzie (4.002): $2.4MM
Sam Hentges (3.157): $1.4MM
Nick Sandlin (3.157): $1.6MM
Eli Morgan (3.091): $1MM
Steven Kwan (3.000): $4.3MM
Ben Lively (2.133): $3.2MM

MLBtraderumors has different numbers on guys...

Either way these are only estimates... Lively is a super 2, so he's under team control for awhile... Guys like Thomas and Naylor are in the last year's of their contracts...

I agree with MLBTR on TMac's deal... He's not getting over 3 million since he wasn't productive at all in 24... Karinchak at less than 2 million, is a great contract if he's back to peak Karinchak...

If they don't pay Kwanny this off-season that's it for me. I'll be back next decade.

Can't stop there though.

The window is now. Time to pay up and boost this roster.

Figured I would put up this link for you...

Then we need to know this one...

Right now the organization needs number one guys and upper minor league catchers, otherwise the depth is there... We literally have almost no minor league free agents...

Looking in current free agency... Soto isn't someone we could sign...

There are two players I think Cleveland is going to gun for...

SS Willey Adames

And

RF Anthony Santander

When it comes to catching... They are all over the hill essentially, at least as hitters... We aren't going to see any upgrade at catcher through free agency...

If they are going to upgrade the team it's likely through trade like they did with Thomas...

Also

Bieber, Boyd, Cobb and Hedges are all free agents...

Bieber isn't on the current 40 man roster cause of injury status...

Stephan, Hentges and Karinchak need to be added... Which means going into the off season, we are at a 40 man roster....

Rule 5 candidates...

SPs... Nikhazy, Webb, Dion, Davenport

RPs... Aleman, Enright

Position players... I don't see any worth protecting... Maybe Halpin?

Out of options guys... TMac, Noel, Valera*, Arias, Avila.... *Valera may be eligible for a fourth year because of the amount of time missed because of injury...

Guys like DeLauter, Bazzana, Peterson, Wilkinson could end up in major league camp...

First thing Cleveland will do this off season... Create room for some Rule 5 guys and resign a few minor leaguers...

I can see Beede, Gose, Florial, Lavastida, Nunez, Delgado, Torres and Planez all getting minor league deals with an invite to major league camp for next season with us...

With a full 40 man roster... I wouldn't be surprised to see some trades happen right before the Nov deadline to set the roster...

Money can’t make our manager intentionally walk a HR hitter with 1B open after he made the same error the game before. Money can’t make our AS closer not implode in October.

The guards had a great chance this year but sadly they blew it. And the line starts behind Vogt when you start to hand out blame. God he was total shit in this series. I still cannot imagine what was going through his Neanderthal brain when Stanton was up.

How in the world are the Dolans in misery?

Team's worth 4x what they paid for it.

Can we send Stephen Vogt to situational managing 101?

Look, Vogt was great as a rookie this year but he was a trainwreck in the ALCS. Can’t help but wonder if it’s a WS year with Tito.

Slight over reaction... That being stated, I don't like how he handled the pitchers at all in this post season... He was too quick to go to the bullpen, which the guys had tired arms for sure... Clase, Herrin and Smith shouldn't be going multiple innings... Gaddis, Morgan, Avila are perfectly fine to go multiple innings since they have been starters almost their entire careers until recently...

Either way, hopefully Vogt learns from his mistakes...

We literally have the chance to come into 25, with the same roster we have now outside of maybe Boyd (who we will try to retain but unlikely cause he's a Boras client).

It’s not an overreaction. This series was there for the taking. Literally everyone but the manager wanted to IBB Stanton. Vogt cost us the game and maybe a World Series with that move. You just never know but it’s 3-2 headed to NY if you have anyone else making that decision. Vogt needs to be hammered on that move all winter all spring and next season.

Let's see how he handles his mistakes going forward...

This team at least was right there with the big boys and that's nice since this team is going into their prime years... We just need someone to take those last few spots to get us over the hump...
