2024 - 2025 Guardians Off Season Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Straw 6.4 million
Kwan 4.175 million

Baseball is disgusting
I'm not saying your wrong that the financials of baseball are disgusting. however kwan only makes 4.175 this year because he, at least currently, is betting on himself for future free agency. I am sure he would be making more than straw if he just signed whatever extension the Gs are offering right now.

Kwan also received a 555,000+ pre arbitration bonus for his 2024 season.

He made 1.5+ million in pre-arb bonuses.

Though this reality is the only chance Cleveland has to compete. Baseball artificially deflates the salaries of players for their first 5-6 years in the majors. Cleveland just made a bad call extending Straw.

How does Venezuelan League pitching compare to AAA and the majors?

Arias driving a low, inside breaking ball over the right field fence in that video is pretty impressive. He's the only player we have other than Noel who can hit oppo home runs and he doesn't need a high outside fastball to do it. Not Jose, not Manzardo, even Josh Naylor didn't hit home runs to left except maybe once a year.

He reminds me of Franmil Reyes who used to hit a lot of home runs to right center when he was at the top of his game. Only Arias is not as huge as Franmil and can play SS, 3B, 2B, 1B, and RF. He could very well hit himself onto the team in spring training and even win the second base job if Brito, Freeman, and Martinez don't look good. That's going to be a hell of a battle.

Arias could also go to right field with that arm in the eventuality that one of the others wins the second base job, but that depends on where Noel plays since he's also a right-handed power bat who probably will play right field with Manzardo and Santana at 1B. David Fry being out the first half opens the door for a guy like Arias, but he better seize the opportunity quickly because Fry should be able to DH in the second half and DeLauter may be ready by then as well.

hmmm...

...distance from the pitchers mound to the plate is the same..

...width of the plate is the same...

...umpires are just as biased as anywhere..

...velocity and spin on fastballs, curveballs, splitters, changeups etc. are around the same if less consistent..

...and it was a low hanging breaking ball, just on the plate at the knees that he drove over the RF wall for an oppo homer..

..agree with Arias as one of the positions he can play: RF...and the others mentioned..

..I think Fry is going to have a completely lost season, tbh..

Franmill was a windmill.... Arias isnt' anything like him...

..Arias' best contribution to the 2025 Guardians may be as a super utility... imho, in a blow out.. he might even be able to pitch..

hmmm...

....Franmil hit 30 home runs with 85 RBI's in 115 games in 2021 at age 25....His wRC+ that year was 128...You're right, Arias isn't anything like him, but hopefully someday he will be....I'd be thrilled with a 128, especially being able to play all those positions....He needs to get going because he'll be 25 in February...

...Speaking of windmills, the last two years in Cleveland Arias' K-rates were 32.8% and 32.9%....remarkably consistent...I hoped to see some improvement there...At age 24 Franmil's K-rate was 28.6% and it was 32.0% the next year when he had the 128 wRC+...Who's the windmill here?....
