2024 - 2025 Guardians Off Season Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I don't think we should trade Naylor and I wouldn't be scared to say, IF he doesn't sign an extension, give him the QO...

We need his bat right now... I can't see how we are going to make the playoffs again without Kwan, JRam and Naylor on paper...
I think they should trade Naylor. The problem is that I haven't seen a deal that makes sense or a seperate deal that replaces Josh's bat.

You would have to do two deals on paper... I still think the Pirates can put up the best deal since they have a group of young hitters and a group of young SPs... Then you would have to go get Lowe of the Rays, Rooker of the As etc... Maybe Pirates, Rays and Guardians do a three way deal?

further to the Pirates as a potential trade partner.. The following is offered:

If that is the case with a deal.. then the Guardians would do the same thing and let the Pirates eat Scrod...

Just stop with the Lowe pursuit. The only way I pursue Lowe is if Giminez is being dealt and everyone here knows that isn't going to happen....unfortunately.

Lowe plays more than just 2B, he also plays 1B as well... I was saying IF Naylor is moved, Lowe comes into play right then.and so does someone like Diaz...

Trade proposal from mlb.com

3) Nayl’d it!
D-backs get:
1B Josh Naylor
Guardians get: LHP Jordan Montgomery, 3B Gino Groover (D-backs’ No. 9 prospect), cash
Naylor, an All-Star in 2024 who cranked out 31 homers and 27 doubles, is a free agent at season’s end and might not fit Cleveland’s long-term plans now that Kyle Manzardo is up. Montgomery, a very good pitcher coming off a very bad year, will also be a free agent post-2025 after picking up the $22.5 million player option on a contract that D-backs owner Ken Kendrick called “horrible.” The awkwardness in Arizona could be an opportunity for a club to buy low on Montgomery, and, as we’ve seen time and again, Cleveland is as good a landing spot as any for a pitcher looking to maximize his talents.
So in this trade, the D-backs get a replacement for Christian Walker, who might leave in free agency. They eat some of that Montgomery contract, throw in a prospect (I picked Groover only because that’s too awesome a name to not include in this column) and -- boom -- the awkwardness is over! Everybody happy now?
Any deal for Montgomery would have to include Straw. Get him off the books is the same as getting some cash in the deal.

So he plays 2 of our 4 strongest positions (1B & 2B with only 3B/RP being the other why trade for). Even if we get rid of Naylor, FO is counting on Fry and Manzardo at 1B/DH and with Noel and DeLauter at RF and Brito/Bazzana at 2B/fill-in, it is not a player that they are going after even if he was a 1 year rental.

Fry can only DH and that won't be until the second half of the season if his Rehab goes well... You can't count on him right now in 25, so you have to take that into account...

DeLauter, will be based off of if he can be healthy... He hasn't shown he can even play part of a season... He's got all the talent, but I can't put money on him...

Hence why i am looking at IF Naylor is moved, finding bats that can replace at least part of his production... Lowe is good for 20 HRs... and so should Manzardo 15-20 I would think...

Plus if we don't extend Naylor, we could always move Lowe next season... Not like we have to keep him until he's a free agent...

We can't sit on our hands that's for sure, but we can't just make a move to do one since it's gotta be an overall upgrade or not at all...

I'm pursuing Rengifo before Lowe and they likely aren't even considering Rengifo. This is pie in the sky talk. Regardless, my point was that Lowe cannot replace Naylor's production and nothing in his career suggests he can so I'm not sure why you are advocating it?

Hate the idea of acquiring Lowe while trading away Naylor. It probably makes your offense and defense worse, while making your farm system worse since two years of Lowe will probably cost more than one year of Naylor and with Lowe being a better hitter for his position.

If you get Lowe you keep Naylor and hope one of Manzo, Noel or even Brito can be his internal replacement in 2026.

...only a couple mentions of the Guardians or something the Guardians could benefit from in the MLB Tr Sunday evening chat...

-Guardians more likely to sign one, not both of Bieber/Boyd.. w/ Polichuk claiming the Guardians luck when signing someone or promoting someone results in acceptable/good performance..

-Cal Raleigh will remain as the starting catcher for the M's as he is an excellent defensive backstop.. Harry Ford might, therefore, be used as a trade chip...

Two issues when it comes to Ford...

First off, Fords ETA is 26 not 25... He's not likely to play much at all in the bigs in 25, so we would be trading for a player that isn't going to be any help now...

Secondly, he hasn't shown he can throw guys out at a great clip plus PBs did hurt him in the past and because of his athleticism he has been playing off of C as well, so don't be surprised to see Mariners use him as a back up catcher and corner OF come 26...

Also looking at their organization as a whole, they aren't deep in the catching position... Heck honestly they may be just as thin as Cleveland is at the position. Outside of Ford... Their next best C is the kid they just drafted who is likely going to hit A+ in 25... (Ps. looked through their AAA, AA, A+, A rosters... They literally have two legit Catching prospects, rest are warm bodies... We are deeper in catching they are and we don't have a AAA catcher yet).

I'm very much doubting Ford is going to available... IF he was I would definitely want him... But I don't see him being available...

I don't think the Angels are shopping Rengifo.
They're trying to win, right?
