2024-25 Playoffs | Indiana Series | Game #3 | Cavs @ Pacers | May 9, 2025 | 7:30 p.m. | ESPN

Was there any update on Garland?

Were the pain meds wearing off or did he reinjure the toe?

  • The playoffs are where coaching adjustments are magnified, and they can single handedly win or lose playoff games. In this case, the Cavs were on the right side of the adjustment. The Cavs hadn’t gone zone a lot in the series, and they especially have not gone zone a lot with Mobley at the top of the 3-2 zone. So, when Kenny whipped that out of his back pocket, it was a curveball the Pacers didn’t know how to hit.
  • There’s not many bigs that can play at the top of a zone and look fluid doing it but Mobley is not most bigs. His length not only bothered passing lanes, but it also bothered shooting sight as well. The Pacers went 3-for-11 on FGs against the zone defense in the 2Q. They finished with just 13 points on 22% shooting.
  • It also helps when the Pacers aren’t knocking down their three-pointers. There was always going to be some regression to the mean but the 2Q hit pretty hard – they went 0-for-11 on three-pointers. And while the Cavs didn’t do much better, not allowing the Pacers to hit spot-up attempts and get their offense going that way is meaningful.

100%. This is a football play. The refs have set the standard that this stuff is OK this series for whatever reason.
I believe JA got a flagrant for setting that type of screen against Houston, where he floored a guy in the regular season. The double standards still are fully in effect.

Folks I don’t think the Pacers are dirty, this is playoffs basketball you have to toe the the line, and for the most part the refs are letting players play, we’re basically doing the same in our own way…….Were basically daring the ref to blow there whistle when we’re basically holding and pushing them off there spots, and hard fouls is a must in the playoffs………

Holding and pushing are not dirty plays, shoving someone when he's in the air is dirty play. The former bend the rules, the latter gets players hurt. It's how Hunter got hurt and last hight Toppin did the same thing to Mitchell but fortunately he wasn't hurt. Toppin knew he was wrong because he immediately went over to try to help Don up. To his credit Mitchell ignored him and bounced right up. But refs have to be watching for that stuff especially in the playoffs.

When trying to make a hard fouls, unfortunately shit happens like that because when Hunter got hurt, it was a clean block, and they even looked at it….You can’t tell me if someone like Strus go up from behind and try to block a shot but he late to the play a Pacers go flying into the ground and breaks his wrist, we all be saying it was just a hard foul, maybe stupid but we all be saying playofff basketball….

My problem is if it was the Cavs we would’ve gotten a few flagrant or players ejected. My problem is the double standard of executing rules in this league.

There's a difference between maintaining verticality and trying to make a play on the ball, versus deliberately pushing the shooter while he is defenseless in the air. The Pacers are doing a whole lot of the latter.
