2024-25 Playoffs | Miami Series | Game #1 | Heat @ Cavs | April 20, 2025 | 7:00 p.m.

Cavs ended up taking 8 more shots than the Heat because they won on the offensive glass 14-11 and on turnovers 14-7. Seven turnovers is really impressive.

I think it's very encouraging that we won by 21 despite Hunter and Okoro going scoreless in 29 minutes and starters Mobley and Strus scoring 9 points each. I expect Hunter to come out much stronger next game.

I agree with the poster who said Miami was probably focusing on defending Allen and Mobley which left them vulnerable to Garland, Michell, and Jerome.

The Cavs were only up by 8 going into the 4th but won that quarter 34-21. The Heat may have gotten tired since they depend on five players so much.

I still say Mobley is overrated because he has no touch around the rim. He frequently missed 2-3 foot shots and his dribbling usually results in a turnover.

Overall a great start to the series as they kept bringing in fresh bodies until the Heat cracked. All their starters were between -12 and -22 except Burks, who only played 15 minutes. All the Cavs starters were +10 to +18. Our starters were better than theirs - it's not just the bench.

Limiting the minutes of Garland and Mitchell during the regular season is really paying off.

For all you saying Ty is gone after this season:
#1- Very few teams have that kinda cap space.
#2 Ty has to WANT to leave. He is playing for a perennial title contender WITH his best friend. He is gonna make good $ from the Cavs. Why would he want to go to a team and win 30 games? $$$ is not everything.
It's not money.... It's a shitload of money

Ty’s not gone. Koby already told me that he is offering Ty a super-max contract.

  • With Donovan Mitchell and Darius Garland doing most of the heavy lifting throughout the game, Jerome came in as the closer in the fourth quarter to put the game away. 16 of 28 came in the 4Q where had two separate streaks of 7 straight points. His offense came at a time where the Cavs were looking for something outside of Garland and Mobley.
  • With the way things ended, only 3 total FGs were made outside of Garland, Mitchell and Jerome in the second half – just three which went for 9 of the 59 total points the Cavs scored in the second half. The core four has been the talk of the season but for the night the Cavs had their big three (who shot 75% on 24 FGA in the second half).
  • Jerome has been fantastic this year and part of that has been providing exactly what the Cavs need at exactly the right time. The Cavs were outscored by +4 in bench points in the first half but that flipped to a +5 in the Cavs favor in the second half thanks to Jerome’s contributions.
  • With every Jerome performance comes the, “Well how can they afford him?” discussion which we have you covered for. Long story, short: The Cavs can afford to retain him but will be limited in what they can pay him due to his Early Bird Rights – no removing of salary will change what the Cavs can offer. The Brooklyn Nets post as the biggest threat with their cap space but outside of that there are very few teams with significant cap space over the non-taxpayer mid-level exception which bodes well for the Cavs. Bobby Marks recently confirmed $14.3M looks to be the most the Cavs can offer in year one. The non-taxpayer MLE for next year is likely to be ~$14.1M. But that’s for another day.
