2024-25 Season | Game #59 | Cavs @ Celtics | Feb. 28, 2025 | 7:30 p.m. | ESPN

What? We did the exact opposite of shutting down Tatum and Brown and daring role players to beat us. We let Tatum and brown get theirs and shut down the rest of the squad. (Specifically, 61 FGAs for Tatum and Brown and only 28 for all the other Celtics combined)
That was the point, apologies if it read differently..

I think the majority of us understand that we will need Hunter and Wade to beat them in a series. I'm hoping Green gets brought up to speed so we can rotate those three (along with Okoro) as needed.

Besides Brown and Tatum, Boston has no other true wing. If you throw enough of those defensive bodies at them, they will wear down.

I'm watching the Cavs vs Celtics for the first time. I'll post my quarter by quarter comments.

1st quarter: Very clearly the Cavs are wrong to go to 3s first rather than inside. Either Tatum or Horford has to guard Mobley. Pack it into Evan until they can stop him. (Hint: they can't.) If they double team him, he can go to Allen at the free throw line or dunker's spot or to an open 3. Darius did that on our first basket. Do it on every play.

Jerome was the star of the first quarter for us. He got 2 3s and a floater. He also missed 3 floaters he usually makes. Had he made those, he'd have had 14 points in the first. I also noted when the Celtic did their sudden double-team to get the ball out of his hands, he found Merrill for 3.

2nd quarter - Mitchell and Mobley got going, with help from Wade and Okoro. They didn't play long, but they were fresh, active players who disrupted their 2nd group.

Brown fouls a lot and complains when he gets called. Too bad. Tatum shoots 3s and contested shots over 7 footers. If he has space, he makes them. At least, in the 2nd quarter.

We close a little slow on 3s.

Celtics challenge on the foul on Mitchell was foolish. Mitchell's 41 points included 11 free throws. He went inside a lot.

Cavs down 10 at half.

I like how the analysis includes brown complaining

3rd quarter. Mitchell keeps going inside, so does Brown. He draws several fouls, two on Mobley who has to go out with 4 fouls.

With lots of 3s, the Celtics get up to 17. After a timeout De'andre gets a 3. That was our 3rd 3 at the top of the key off a double team on a guard.

Jerome comes in and we go on a run, led by Darius. We close to 8.

Cavs challenge was good. The Celtics' in the 2nd was not. The Cavs ended up with 2 Jarrett free throws to cut it to 8.

On a fast break, Allen sealed Tatum under the basket and got a bucket. I want to see that more.

With Hunter in, Mitchell gets 3 3's and we close to within 3. Two Mitchell free throws brings us to within 1. We're down 3 at the end of the quarter.

Hunter at 6-8 is kind of a tweener, between small and power forward. He blocked out Horford and Kornet so he has plenty of strength.

4th quarter.

Mobley with 9 points in the 4th on 2 3s, a bucket and a free throw put the Cavs on top. The message from the coach was to feed him. Try that in the 1st the next time we play them. They can't guard Mobley or Donovan.

Mobley gets another bucket and a lot of offensive rebounds, eating up time. Okoro gets a block on Brown. Then Garland hits a long 3 to put us up 6. 5 minutes left.

The Celtics timeout led them to tie us. Then Mitchell hit two buckets and a foul to give us a 5 point lead. 1:28 left.

Garland hits an 18 footer to put us up 7 with a minute left.

Hunter tips a Tatum 3 in the last 30 seconds. They foul MItchell for the final score. 123-116.

Tatum definitely lost energy in the 4th. He wasn't as quick, nor did he jump as high. We had a lot more energy on defense in the 4th. That was the game.

I laughed my ass off when he made those comments about "little guys flopping".

Yeah, sure. These asswipes are push-off grifters... the refs need to call that shit more often and see how good their offense actually is. It's not just Tatum, it's the entirety of the Celtics using that move.
if these are "little guys", then why you need to push?

From today’s Boston Herald:

Jaylen Brown says Darius Garland flopped on foul call that ‘changed the game’ against Cavs

"I don't think it was a foul, but when these little guys flop they're just inclined to call it.

Jaylon just mad because after the loss, his little guy flopped when he went to bang hisi girlfriend.
