2024-25 Season | Game #74 | Cavs @ Pistons | March 28, 2025 | 7:00 p.m.

Fwiw, Frobley and Okoro were the epicenter of the bad defense.

Kenny said the game plan was to "take away the paint, limit turnovers, and win the rebounding game." The Cavs were not able to accomplish any of that. Kenny said the Pistons "played with more force" and "imposed their will".

  • The Cavs have been playing with their food a little too much in March and teams fighting for their playoff lives have taken full advantage of that. The Pistons were just the latest in line to out little thing’d the Cavs. The Pistons took better care of the ball, created more second chances, got more easy buckets and build a lead on Cavalier apathy.
  • The Pistons were without Cade Cunningham and still scored 133 points and put up a 131.7 oRTG. The Cavs defense has struggled more of late than overall -- they’re 22nd over their last 8 games (to which they’re 3-5).
  • Over that stretch, their dREB% is dead last in the league. What hurt them for most of the game against the Pistons? Rebounding. The game ended with the Pistons just a +2 in rebounding, but they were a +5 on offensive rebounds and held a larger advantage through the first three quarters.
  • It’s also interesting over that stretch their opponent eFG% is 8th best at 53.9%, 13th in 3P% and 4th in allowing 42.8 points in the paint per game. But their opponent free-throw rate is 20th and their 2nd chance points is 26th. So, while they’ve been effective with the shooting percentages, they’ve struggled to limit possessions to one attempt and allow teams to supplement their shooting at the free-throw line.
  • The Pistons shot the ball at 47.8% and 44.1% (15 3PM) which isn’t great but isn’t horrific. What’s worse is allowing 35 FTA and 24 second chance points – it’s the small things.

There's really little comparison to build off of unless we're being lazy with the whole four All-Stars thing...

It's more about having potential that doesn't amount to any major success due to falling off in the playoffs.

Well I hope the last week or so is more about just kind of taking it easy to stay healthy for playoffs than them just being figured out.

I am still glad they're losing now and at least have a chance of getting it out of their system. But I think it would be disingenuous to not be a little concerned at the moment.

The Boston lead down to 4 games in loss column with 8 left and I would guess we might lose tie breaker since only 2 up in loss column.

I assume we hold it but damn

Take away the 15-0, 12-0 and 20-1 streaks and we’re 12-14.

12-14 is a losing team. Concerning. Fireable offense. No chance of making the ECF. Treadmill team. 2010s Hawks.

JBB’s fault.

I poster last season, as a joke, that if we take away the 17-1 streak we were 31-33. People ran with that as proof of … something. “12-14” is the new 31-33. Wouldn’t be surprised if the resident Fifth Column takes that up.

Anybody else catch DG's post game interview? I didn't like his demeanor one bit. Just seems like he aint taking things seriously at all. Mentally they are not playoff ready and they're damn sure not ready for the physicality. I'm not on the doomer bandwagon but its concerning.

If I'm KA, I'm done resting them. They need to get serious about winning games and playing the right way. Yall bout to play together and figure it out together before the playoffs.

One of the best ways to recover from a loss is to shrug it off. I wouldn't put too much into the way players act now. Judge them when the first round starts

My problem with this is if this follows us into the playoffs. If they suck in the first game of round one, is that still just one game? How about if they get up 2-1 and then suck their way to 2-2 and lose homecourt? Is that just one game too? At some point they have to be held accountable. They are losing the habits Don said they were trying to build and we have a sizable sample now.

I'm not a doomer, but I've seen enough to know it's time to be critical. A lot of the stuff that others have said wouldn't happen in the playoffs under JBB regular seasons happened and some of us were concerned during regular season games while it was happening.

Even worse, they’re 0-15 in games they didn’t win. Pathetic. The Pistons should allow the Cavs to honorarily fire JBB a second time.

This is pretty much the long and short of it. We don’t know what we don’t know (i.e., how the Cavs are going to play in the playoffs). We can try to look for indications now, but we won’t know anything tangible until the playoffs start.

That said, it would be nice to see them find a bit more of a groove in April. At least hit the playoffs having won 6 of 8 or something like that.
