2024 Around The League Off-Season

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Wow ... guess Sherman really does go out and spend money
Huge PR boost for the Royals and their fans.. Witt is a good guy, too.. should be the kind of "face of the franchise" every club would envy.. Congrats to the young man and to the Royals..

Another injured starter back to Dodgers …. but says 60-day DL opens Thursday (8th???)

After Nick Gordon loses his hearing to the twins (Arbitration I hearing).. Gordon is traded to Miami....

Red Sox efforts to ship out Kenley Jansen to the Phillies appears to be ended.. Kenny Rosenthal has dumped a big ole bucket of cold water on that smoldering wreck of a Red Sox Driven idiot deal.. The short term deal Jansen has (one year) at his price tag ($ 16 MM) and age (36) make a Kenley Jansen deal DOA......

With Phillies already without last year's closer, Craig Kimbrel.. and a clear to almost desperate need for a bona fide closer.. and having Dave Dombrowski as their GM (he has ruined more than one teams minor league system in pursuit of ML players using prospects as his capital).. this fits, if for no other reason than:

".... Jansen, he's not a very attractive trade chip. He's 36 and carries a $16 million salary for 2024, making him one of the highest-paid relievers in the game. He's also going to be a free agent next offseason, so he's likely a one-year rental. That's not exactly the type of player teams [Phillies] are willing to sacrifice precious prospect capital for in a trade...."

But, Emmanuel Clase is.. controllable for years w/ team options.. low price tag.. (and has a guy to carry his bags: Myles Straw).. There are plenty of ML and near ML ready prospects on and in the Phillies system to fill the holes that exist in the Guardians roster.. Guys like Johan Rojas, Alec Bohm and prospects like Mick Abel, Aidan Miller & Griff McGarry.. Thoughts?

I don't think the Phillies have as good of a group overall as the Cubs... But if you can come away with Abel and Bohm you definitely have to think on it... But Bohm like Mountcastle is blocked since he is a 3B/1B and both spots are taken. It would 100% force Naylor back into RF... but it would make the lineup way better, I just don't think that's the guy we want...

.303/.335/.929 <== no one is blocking this kind of fire power against LHP's on the current roster..and he is the kind of guy the Guardians want against LHP's..

I just don't know how you are going to play 3 people with two spots... I don't think Naylor will be going to the OF again...

someone gets to sit.. and it wouldn't be the guy who is hitting .303/.335/.929 against LHP's...

The minority of the time we will face left-handers... We would have a main piece for Clase to sit on the bench most of the time. That makes very little sense to me... I am all for adding another bat, but someone has to be able to play OF in my mind or at least someone we arent scared to put out there... Naylor is a negative RF and we would have to play him there if we got Bohm... We would have no choice in the matter... I just dont like that idea...

Why would Philies trade Bohm? They have no one to really replace him. They would ask us to take more prospects instead. Or, ask for Arias or Freeman for 3rd...

Possibly.. the values would probably dictate that one of those guy go.. The key missing piece for the Phillies according their media stories is a lock down closer.. They have some nice pieces including a RHH power bat to offer in return..

Kyle Bradish reported to the Orioles camp projected to be their # 2 SP behind newly acquired Corbin Burnes.. and has been diagnosed with a sprained UCL.. The extent of the injury isn't fully available, however, the likelihood is that he'll be on the IL for at least all of spring training..

That Clase/Straw for Mount/Cow/Norby trio deal with Bieber involved could begin to look a lot better to the O's.. a lot better, indeed.. Perhaps with the addition of some of Santander/Povich/McDermott would do the trick..

Interesting... Figured he was destined to land elsewhere.
