2024 Guardians Post Season Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I made complete sense... Triolo and Hayes can both play first... Triolo was at the season ended... Gonzalez has taken 2B on paper... York doesn't have a spot hence why they had him playing all around the Diamond...
The Pirates Newsletter specifically mentions two targets for the Pirates:

LHRP and 1B.. not Triolo..not Hayes.. Not Yorke.. or someone the Pirates played all over the diamond.. not a guy they've already DFA'd.. They suggested there are several free agents but not in the pirates budget.. which continues making your comment NONSENSE..

It's not nonsense because they need SS more than they do 1B... O'Neill is now in CF... and they have a ton of 2b/3B types but little at 1B and SS... If anything they have a 1B in Triolo since he doesn't have a position since he's a plus 2B/3B defensely but those two spots are taken...

Who is their SS?

Either way a stop gap 1B using prospects makes little sense for a team like Pirates... It be better to get one in free agency or with team control in my mind if they are going to use prospects...

It is nonsense..

Free Agency is the LAND of "diminishing returns" and isn't used by the Pirates.. Do you know ANYTHING about baseball and the Pirates?????? You propose a multiyear/nine figure [x00,000.000] contract for the PIRATES!!!??? for a 1B???? smh..

A stop gap using prospects gets the Pirates to the full wave of talent percolating in their minor league system. This is one of THEE most important uses by clubs with their prospects.. Not trading them for the parent club needs remain nonsense.....

Every fan knows this..
Every club does this..
why don't you???

smh...

Why would Pittsburgh trade for a rental? They aren't near being a contender enough to trade for a rental... Rentals for smaller markets are when they are contenders
Pittsburgh is closer to being a contender than you're giving them credit for. I'm not saying they would or wouldn't have interest in Naylor, but they're close and it wouldn't surprise me if they won the NL Central next year.

I don't think they are actually that close... Plus they are a young roster...

Also the Brewers have everyone back but Adames... They have a better roster overall than the pirates...

Truth be told.. the Pirates have a "champagne" interest in Alonso, Goldschmidt and Walker and a "rolling rock" budget.... All three of these 1B targets are prohibitively expensive for either/both years and AAV.. Guys like Josh Naylor are significantly closer to the Pirates budgetary requirements..

W/R to the Brewers... the Brewers are the Pirates MAIN competition in the NL Central.. Losing Adames will hurt the Brewer crew., severely. The Brewers do have Brice Turang and Joey Ortiz who can fill the middle infield void if and until the Brewers resign Adames or they make a deal for a bona fide SS.. The Guardians and Brewers match up well for a middle infielder deal.. The Brewers have a couple of near ML ready prospects that should be of interest to the Guardians...

Yeah bullshit. Go position by position and the Pirates are right there, and when it comes to the rotations the Pirates are vastly superior at this time. If the Brewers lose Adames it will hurt them severely. If the Pirates follow the Guardians' model and shore up their BP with some studs then they will be in the NL Central race.

Brewers have two very interesting prospects close to ML readiness..

-Misiorowski has all the talent the Guardians look for in a high leverage RP..
-Jeferson Quero should be more than a little interesting to a number of clubs looking to shore up their catching.. e.g. Detroit?

There are others.. The Brewers don't have a lot of upper minors guys.. but the few they have are really quite impressive.. Thoughts?

The Pirates have an A++ starting pitcher and a couple of other pretty good ones. That makes them dangerous in the mediocre NL Central.

...and a guy at the back of the pen that is as good as anyone in the game.. he's a foundation piece...

Pirates are set up to do a Baltimore Orioles type turn around if things all come together for them.

Still don't think Josh Naylor is a fit, but Josh Bell would be the perfect buy low reunion candidate.

...can't agree more... the NL Central is just so mediocre and the talent percolating up in the Pittsburgh system is very good.. Add a back of the pen guy to go with their starting staff.. & there are few teams that will be able to counter their destiny.. More than one veteran is needed, imho.. Josh bring the fire to a spot the Pirates don't really have covered or is covered poorly.. Add a guy like Cade Smith to pair with Bednar at the back of their pen & the Pirates relevance grows.. The trio of Ashcraft, Harrington and Chandler (him, especially, imho) gives the Buccos an 7 or 8 deep starting staff.. I can see a deal w/ Cade that makes a LOT of sense for the Pirates.. they're young and pretty darn good.. they're not going to stay young..
