2024 Guardians Post Season Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Suck it Yankees
high pitches are just KILLING the NYY's in this game..

...can't hit.. can't lay off em...

...can't agree more... the NL Central is just so mediocre and the talent percolating up in the Pittsburgh system is very good.. Add a back of the pen guy to go with their starting staff.. & there are few teams that will be able to counter their destiny.. More than one veteran is needed, imho.. Josh bring the fire to a spot the Pirates don't really have covered or is covered poorly.. Add a guy like Cade Smith to pair with Bednar at the back of their pen & the Pirates relevance grows.. The trio of Ashcraft, Harrington and Chandler (him, especially, imho) gives the Buccos an 7 or 8 deep starting staff.. I can see a deal w/ Cade that makes a LOT of sense for the Pirates.. they're young and pretty darn good.. they're not going to stay young..
Why the fuck would we even consider trading Cade? There's nearly 0 percent chance of that happening, we'd have to get their next best starter after the stach and that's not happening either.

The simple answer is.. it makes the Guardians better... but you already knew that.. The Pirates best starter is Paul Skenes.. duh.. and that's not happening.. double duh...

You didn't mention one player coming back us....so how was I supposed to know we'd be better after this trade?

Some of the stuff he says is nonsense...

Truth be told, on paper, we can afford to trade one of Gaddis or Smith and still have a very good bullpen...

That being stated, We aren't moving either of them for prospects, we will move them for a 2/5 hole type of hitter... Pirates don't have that availability since they are trying to move prospects for established players to add to Skenes and the nucleus they have in place...

Guys like Smith, Gaddis and Naylor are all going to be in trade Rumors... It's more of the question with Smith and Gaddis, what price is the FO going to have them at since IF one is moved, their price is going to be so high, I don't even know if the other team can merit trading for then at that point...

I don't know who Chernoff/Antonetti will have available. I'm sure a lot will depend on what is being offered. Our beloved Guardians need SP(maybe) and potent bats. They need better offensive production from SS, 2B, C and RF. As far as I know they're still the youngest team in MLB with lots of upper level talent that will need an opportunity.

Will any of Bieber, Cobb or Boyd be back? Even if Bieber were signed he can't pitch until mid-season.

Stephan and Hentges will return so there is going to be some attrition in the BP. Walters was called up and pitched superbly. Aleman looks like he could potentially be another Smith-like arm. God forbid Espino can stay healthy in a BP role because that would add an arm that cannot be found throughout the league. Do you listen to offers for Clase? There are sure to be some good ones.

What will the payroll limit be?

I don't have any answers or predictions at this time, only questions. The only thing I'm certain of is that I would enthusiastically pursue Rengifo and attempt to resign Boyd and/or Cobb. His style of play just fits and he would add a real nice bat to the lineup that can play multiple positions.

That would make 229 bullpen arms that can all contribute at the ML level and NO Scott Barlow.. There are a few teams that are in desperate need for bullpen arms.. This is not a limited set but include Pirates, Mets, Rangers, Brewers. etc.. etc.. Deals are to be had.. btw.. as was stated in this thread.. Bubba Chandler looks like he could be a very good choice for any team on a close/tight budget & looking for a talented starter.. With Aroldis Chapman & his 8 figure salary being off the books for the Pirates.. a guy like Cade Smith would look awfully good at the back of the Pirates bullpen.. hell.. Cade would look good on every ML club's roster..

I'll believe in Espino when Espino is pitching at the corner of Carnegie and Ontario.. otherwise.. he's not relevant..

Agree with resigning Bieber and/or Boyd.. but not Cobb.. too many injuries.. not enough youth.. If he dedicates this offseason to health, conditioning and a new birth.. then only maybe.. I wouldn't even mind signing Cobb to a "late in Spring Training" deal that gives him a chance to comeback around the All Star break, with a fresh pair of arms.. This is a vet twosome: Shane Bieber & Alex Cobb..

Just a thought..

I'm not convinced they'll move one of their top BP arms, but maybe they would. The last one I think they're willing to deal is Smith, but that's just a guess on my part.

If Cobb is resigned it will be at a very fair price and to be honest, I prefer him to Lively. Lively looks more durable, but is much more hittable than Cobb IMO.

There are too many options for trade for me to accurately conceive anything. As always, it will be interesting to see what they have planned for the offseason. Then again, they might not do a damn thing.

Hentges is out for all of 25...

Hentges is out for all of 25...
Chris Anotnetti provided an update on Hentges and said, "Sam Hentges had a left shoulder capsule repair, which will keep him out all of 2025. So, he will likely not pitch in a competitive major league game until 2026.

This is the kind of injury that has and can end a career..

The organization should get in the Juan Soto sweepstakes and put a 600 million dollar offer on the table: 15 million annually over forty years.

Guaranteed to bring him to Cleveland, lol.

May as well right? Put Kwan, Soto, Jram as your top three... I think we are series bound...
