Is there any QB, or player for that matter, getting more undeserved hype than Justin Fields? I don’t listen to sports talk radio very often, but turned on ESPN just to see what they had to say about the start of the preseason. They were railing on about Fields being a good QB, making the the Steelers dangerous, etc. Seems like I’ve caught a number of these conversations since he was traded there.
I get he was in a tough situation in Chicago, but he’s mostly been a 1-read QB whose best attribute is his legs. Doesn’t take good care of the ball. He has 40 passing tds in his career and 38 fumbles.
There’s not really anything that points to him being a good NFL QB even in a bad situation. I just can’t think of a single highly drafted QB that’s performed the way he did in Chicago and then went elsewhere and played well. Even guys like Baker had success in Cleveland before he left. Goff has improved since the Rams, but he was still a good QB.
