2024 Season | Series #18 | Guardians @ Rockies | May 27-29, 2024

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I understand what you are saying...and agree somewhat.

But...

What do you think the odds are that Cookie survives the season AND maintains the level of his last three starts?

What do you think the odds are that a 32 yr old journeyman can do something that only one SP in the past decade has done?

What do you think the odds are that TMac can make it healthy thru the season AND come close replicating the best season hes ever had?

What do you think that the odds are that Williams will return AND have no further pangs in his elbow AND instantly becomes a Kluber-Bieber-Carrasco?

Bibees not a concern to me, but what do you think that the odds are that he becomes a Kluber-Bieber-Carrasco this year?

Allen is also not a concern to me, but what do you think the odds are that he will give us average production every fifth day?

What do you think the odds are that X will not only right the ship soon, but be a lot better than he was last year?

What do you think the odds are that a young Bieber or Civale or Bibee are gonna magically appear out of Columbus to inject a transfusion into the rotation in mid August?

Now, what do you think the odds are that most, not just one or two, of those things are gonna happen over the next four months? We are gonna need all seven of them, not just five. Rotations very seldom go thru four months unscathed.

We need another viable MLB starter to bolster the rotation, a guy who can give us dependable innings every fifth day.

The alternative is to outslug our rotation. Our offense is good, but its not 90s Tribe good.

Unless Rocchio gets hurt, Arias is not gonna get everyday at bats...unless you are gonna take them from more deserving bats, like Fry....or you are gonna take them from lefties, like Brennan and Manzardo.

Does anybody really want to see Arias bat vs lefties instead of Fry...or against righties instead of Brennan or Manzardo?

Like every other player on this team, Arias has a job assignment. And like every other player on this team, he will do it, or will be gone when a viable replacement is ready or found.
The sky is not falling Cats. Most prolific offense in the American League will get better when the league's leading hitter comes back tonight. Still owns the best bullpen in baseball. And a pretty good starting pitcher started last night in triple A. Enjoy the moment.

Cantillo also had a rehab start in the ACL last night. He got blown up, but at least he's on his way back too.

I hope you guys are right. I hope we don't have any problems in the rotation.

I hope that Williams gets here soon, doesn't miss a start, and pitches like a FOR...and doesn't feel a twinge in his elbow.

I hope that Bibee doesn't miss a start and pitches like a FOR.

I hope that TMac doesn't miss a start, pitches like he did in 2022...and doesn't feel a twinge in his elbow.

I hope that Lively doesnt miss a start and ends up with a 90% LOB.

I hope that Cookie turns back the clock, doesn't miss a start...and doesn't feel a twinge anywhere.

I hope that Allen doesn't miss a start and pitches like he did last year.

If five of those six things happen, we don't have a problem.

But what I really hope is that the FO goes out and acquires a dependable SP, because five of the above things are NOT gonna happen.

I think they will. We all know this rotation is not a playoff rotation.

Bibee, Healthy McKenzie.. there's two. Gavin Williams? He's both young and not healthy. IF we have those 3, MAYBE we can make a run. Ifs and maybes cannot be relied on.

It's very, very likely there's not enough starter firepower.

If the FO is serious about contention, an arm is a must. Preferably both a front end starter and a MOR/BOR guy. MOR/BOR to get through the season, and front rotation guy for the playoffs.

As Meisel said on the Selby is Godcast, they should have thrown Cal Quantrill on the team plane after the Rockies series. He would be a nice BOR arm to get us til the end of the season.

I'm not sure we need any of those six things to happen. Right now we have the second highest scoring offense in baseball, and that's with Kwan missing a month, our shortstops having a wRC+ of 64 (and Bimbo says the brass is running out of patience), Freeman hitting .216, Bo hitting .177, and Laureano and Florial hitting .143 and .173. Laureano has already been released and Florial is not for long.

The offense is going to be even better as the weeding out process continues. And I'm not even counting on a trade for Bichette or Rengifo or someone similar to fix the offensive black hole at SS.

So we don't need five FOR starters, not with this offense and this bullpen. We don't need Williams AND Bibee to pitch like FOR starters; they just need to give us six innings with 2-3 runs allowed. Same with Triston and Lively. They're both already doing that.

Lively, after three years of experimentation in Korea, has apparently figured out what works for him and what doesn't. I doubt he continues to maintain a 2.80 ERA for the rest of the season, but we don't need that from our #4 starter. Something like 3.50 will do nicely.

I'm not thrilled with Allen but he did have three good starts in a row before the Colorado altitude screwed up his pitches, so we'll see.

As for Carrasco, I think he'll be in the pen when Williams returns, but he can be the sixth starter in case anybody feels any twinges, as you put it.

I'm not saying we're in great shape, but I don't think it's as bad as you fear. With Williams on the way back and Bibee, CC, and Allen all pitching better in their most recent starts the trend is positive. The trade deadline is two months away and we'll know a lot more about our starters by then.

Kwan back batting leadoff, Florial DFA'ed.

Interestingly enough, Freeman at 2 and Gimenez bumped down.

Like the idea of Freeman hitting 2nd.
Double leadoff that goes L-R at top of lineup in front of Jose-Josh-Fry

Three swinging strikes during the first at bat by Bibee.

E5 for Jose as a hot smash pops out of his glove.

The Nats will try to run Bo out of the park. The pitchers are gonna have to help.

A walk puts two on.

Leaping catch by Nails ends the threat.
