2025-26 Season | Playoff Series #2 | Cavaliers - Pistons

This sucks, really bad, but if there's a silver lining, it may force Atkinson to tilt playing time towards his best defenders, try to win rock fights, and stop getting cute with the four guard line ups this series.
it does suck, but with Strus playing better and Keon being a better matchup than the last series, its probably the only position group where we could absorb an injury and still have a chance.

Sad thing is the Cavs got their "preferred" position at 4th to avoid Boston and then Boston isn't even around anymore. Had the Cavs just beat the Knicks on Xmas day up 15 in 4th they would been 3 seed and would be playing Philly at home right now and making it to the ECF where they would have home court if they played 4th seed Knicks.

Instead it is likely season over vs Detroit or if they somehow squeak by it is road series vs Knicks.

Could just won those 2 games they choked at end vs Milwaukee and Detroit as well would got them to 3rd but no one in Cavs orginization wanted that 3 seed.

Anyone else want Garland back after watching Harden set turnover records for the playoffs ?

I dont get where this "Cavs tanked for seeding" narrative comes from when they clearly played to win out at the end of the season? Our seeding was not in our control compared to Atl collapsing down the stretch and NY winning out to seal the 3

It comes from a weird “only the Cavs have agency and their decisions are the only thing that drives team outcomes” fan myopia

We booted a BUNCH of dumb winnable games in December when we weren’t even in the top 6, and that was the difference between us and BOS/NY - tanking had fuck all to do with it, we just sucked

They absolutely did not.

They’ll win game 2 relax
honestly this team is talented enough on their best day to win the next 4. But the fact that they just cant get out of their own damn way is crazy. There is nothing about this series that would surprise me. My initial thought was Cavs in 6, but who the hell knows.

We are at a very annoyed fork in the road

Everyone here knows we could beat Detroit if Harden and Mitchell were regular

But sadly those 2 have made a habit of disappearing (more so Harden not Mitchell as much) but even Mitchell taking 2 quarters to heat up is bad. We need those guys to get 25 each here and there

Right now Struss is the only one upping his game

The offense went from movement to exclusively PnR with our 2 guys having the biggest issues with the defense.

We gotta get back to coming down, initiating quickly and being decisive

Kenny responding to media questions after today's practice:

There were spacing issues and screening issues in game 1.

The Cavs run an offense based on "shared principles", a lot of moving pieces, a lot of cutting and there's been "slippage" there. We've got to get back to more of our traditional principles that we've been doing all year. We tried to clean that up in practice today.

The Cavs by far commit that most first half turnovers of any team in the playoffs. But they commit the 5th least in the second half. It could be that we're "easing into games on both ends", maybe because we're a veteran team. Need to bring more force and energy to start games.

Duncan Robinson "got loose" - we "got lost" on him multiple times.

Don't know how long Merrill will be out; need to lean on Ellis and Tyson more.

Detroit is 5-0 when they win the possession battle. We have to win the turnover and rebounding battles.

My comment: There was a column in cleveland.com today about how the "beautiful basketball" the Cavs used to play has been replaced by Harden dribbling the clock down and then passing off with little time left on the shot clock. We're not seeing the ball movement and cutting that was historically productive last year. It sounds like Kenny wants to get back to that and admits there has been slippage from their core principles.

Being bad in a new way while succeeding at correcting prior weakness effectively is assssssssssss
