I figure why not spin this thread up now with people starting to hit up the mock draft games.

I decided to take a spin around PFF and do a "Welp, no Cam Ward. Time to trade for as many picks as I can" scenario to breathe some life into this team, focusing in the trenches.

The two highlights of my... excessive trading down:

Traded #2 to NYJ for #7, #42, #92, #108, a 2026 first and a 2026 2nd.
Traded #7 to Arizona for #16, #113 and a 2026 first.

Final draft:

#16: Kenneth Grant, DT Michigan
#35: Jalon Walker, LB Georgia
#46: Tyler Booker, G Alabama
#47: Aireontae Ersery, T, Minnesota
#67: Quinshon Judkins, RB Ohio State
#80: Nick Emmanwori, S South Carolina
#90: Harold Fannin, TE Bowling Green
#94: Andrew Mukuba, S Texas
#101: Jared Wilson, C Georgia
#102: Jaxson Dart, QB Ole Miss
#103: Cobee Bryant, CB Kansas
#108: Jaylin Noel, WR Iowa State
#165 Danny Stutsman, LB Oklahoma
#216 Hollin Pierce, T Rutgers

Coming away with all of that, plus having 3 firsts and 2 seconds in 2026 would be an absolute dream.

A South Carolina AND Bowling Green player? I can get behind this 100%. Great work.

This is mostly "Look at all this shit we can do when we game the system! Anyways, I like all these guys."

A front six of Walker/Hall/Grant/Myles with Emmanwori and Hicks behind them can cause damage.

I really like Mukuba as a free safety whose range complements Delpit's box instincts.

I really like Booker (G) and Ersery (T). I think Jared Wilson is a ball of clay who I honestly think is more likely to bust than to be dominant... but what the hell, he's a fun prospect at center.

I would hate myself if I didn't come away from this draft with both a RB and a TE. I would've preferred Henderson over Judkins, but the Chiefs took him at 66 when I was picking at 67. I love Warren and Copeland, but I'm not taking them in the top half of the first round. Fannin is a nice consolation prize who can lean behind Njoku for now.

My first crack at a mock draft. Now I know what all of you are thinking - “Selby, how did you manage to get every impact player from the #1 defense in college football AND a franchise QB in your draft?”

Great question, esteemed reader! There is always a little luck involved in these things, but the simple truth is I know ball. I am toying with these virtual Mock Draft GMs…like a kitten pawing at a harmless June bug.

Now let’s hope the Browns fall my draft blueprint.

I'm not complaining if the Browns decide to trade down but it better be a haul of picks next year in return. I hate to say it, but the trade down multiverse choice likely also includes trading a number of players who helped build this 2020 - 2024 run in the AFC North contention.

Great haul, Rafters. I do believe you took advantage of a few rival GMs who haven't bothered to fully research the prospects. Emmanwori won't be around at pick #80 in real life.

Sharing my most recent mock on PFF this morning. Important to note I did not force any trades all of these deals were listed at 50%+ chance of happening.

1) I make a pre-draft trade and receive Stafford + LA Pick 126 for our 33rd pick and 102.
2) Ward goes #1 so here begin my trade downs...
3) I trade down from 2 with the raiders. I receive 6, 37, 68, and next years RD 1 for the 2nd pick + 164 and 178
4) I traded 6 with NO for 9, 40, and 93
5) I traded 9, 191, and 216 for 11, and 75
6) I traded 11 with Pitt for 21, and their first round pick next year.
7) Effectively my draft picks in 2025 were: 21, 37 (LV), 40 (NO), 67, 68 (LV), 75, (SF), 93 (WAS), 94 (BUF), 126 (LA), 199 (MIN), 215, 256. Plus picking up two first rounders next year to do whatever (add talent, trade up for a QB etc.)

Draft:
21: Emeka Egbuka WR, OSU
37: Shedeur Sanders QB, COL - FWIW, first time I have ever seen him drop this far in a PFF draft
40: Princely Umanmielen ED, Ole Miss
67: TreVeyon Henderson RB, OSU
68: Quinshon Judkins RB, OSU
75: Wyatt Millum OT, Virginia
93: Harold Fannin Jr BG, TE
94: Charles Grant OT, W&M
126: Jack Kiser LB, ND
199: Jake Majors C, TX
215: Hunter Woehler S, WI
256: Tonka Hemingway DI, SC

PFF graded an A- this top 33% of browns drafts (not that it matters but just sharing since the PFF gave me the metric).

A couple draft notes:
  • Emeka Egbuka at 21 was the BAP, and helps a bad WR group. Debated between him and Shemar Stewart, but the more I watch Shemar the more I see raw talent, but not necessarily great pass rusher skill set in the NFL
  • Was not expecting Shedeur to drop that low, taking him at 37 is a lot less risk than 2 plus he now sits behind stafford
  • Taking two RB's back to back was a no brainer after seeing how deficient our run game was last year (yes a lot of that could also be attributed to the run block scheme and poor o-line play)
  • There are no can't miss O-Line prospects so I waited to take some guys I like later in the draft. I invested a bit in the O-line too because we are getting older there. Regardless of what happens this year we need to get younger, healthier and add depth. BTW just because I took two OT doesn't mean they will end up being OT's they may get moved to G

Assumption- trade Myles for multiple future firsts. We have to unload some of the other high priced guys like Ward to collect future assets. We also sign Kirk Cousins on a 1-2 year minimum deal.

2 scenarios- multiple trade downs in the 1st

No trades

Obviously PFF has different grades on some of these guys. I picked the players I liked in spots I think they will come off the board regardless of PFF's rankings.

We pick Cam, keep Myles, keep Bitonio, and inject some youth into the offense in a single draft. Wanted to do no real trade-downs, just pick at each spot.

And yeah, I'm a huge TreVeyon Henderson guy right now--it's rare to find a rookie RB you can trust in pass protection. Then add his speed? He's going to go higher in the draft than people expect.

You really ought to be sprinkling some OL into that recipe.

Jared Wilson on the interior, Hollin Pierce at tackle. With Jones/Bitonio/Pocic/Teller/Conklin starting, Zinter backing up G, and Wypler backing up C, it's an area I was okay with addressing later.

Plus I really like both Wilson and Pierce.

Both Ersery and Booker were on the table at 33, and it likely would've been Ersery getting the pick... but Copeland is too good to pass up.

It’s funny how when we trade down we get a king’s haul every time, even in trades that make no sense (whymst are the cardinals trading up??)

But in the mock where we trade up it costs us a 7th round pick

My mock is we trade up to 1 (titans give us #1 and their 3rd rounder for the #2 pick, they reduce stress on themselves from the pressure of picking first and we are compensated for helping them out of that pressure).

I then trade the #1 pick down to the patriots since I know they won’t need a QB. The patriots give us their entire draft and a 2028 1st and take Tet who assuredly would have been there at 4 anyway (questionable motive, but trust me this trade happens)

At #2 I also trade down to the lions for Aidan Hutchinson and their 1st. The lions then take Abdul Carter to lock in a much younger edge and move on from hutch before his dreaded age 25 season

Now you may think I’m in trouble here, but actually I already thought of this and have decided to trade the #4 and a young player to the giants for the #3. What young player does this set us back? Unfortunately had to part with board favorite Jerome Ford to get the deal done. Giants jump all over the opportunity to create a Ford/Tracy backfield

With the #3 pick the Browns select Dillon Gabriel

The rest is behind a paywall on my discord

Pretty easy answer: the PFF mock draft simulator has shitty trade logic.

You can trade Deshaun Watson for a third round pick.

You could also just… self impose limits to what you view as reasonable

Or not. Do whatever you want. But just know my mock draft is probably the most realistic of all shared

I still don't get it. Are you upset that people have mock drafts that abuse the game?

Because I view those more as just people saying "Hey, here are people I like based on where PFF has them ranked" rather than "THIS IS WHAT THE BROWNS NEED TO DO!!!!"

Kinda like this:
This is mostly "Look at all this shit we can do when we game the system! Anyways, I like all these guys."

Right now, it's not like the boards are anywhere close to reality. It's just fun.
