2025 Season | Series #13 | Brewers @ Guardians | May 12-14, 2025 |

Still not impressed by him. Facing a team in a funk, with his pen short, and all he can do is go five, and is incapable of throwing up a shut-down inning to boot, giving up a tying blast to a guy with a .363 slug. This is a game where a pitcher with his talent should be able to do more in order to hammer a series shut, but again, his lack of concentration is his undoing.

I think you are being too harsh on the young guy... He's got all the stuff and talent, and last year he lost it cause of the injury scare. I think as the season goes along, he will start to get deeper into the ball games as he gets more consistent... He's actually slowing been getting better after that really bad start...

He's almost 26 and he's a meathead, still trying to blow flat fastballs by pipsqueak hitters. With his overall stuff, the quality of contact he gave up today to a poor hitting team was quite disappointing. I know it's fruitless wishing a guy with his talent had some of Josh Tomlin's tenacity and intelligence, but it's frustrating as hell. This is the kind of game that helps turn seasons in one direction or another, and once again Gavin Williams didn't rise to the occasion. You could tell reading between the lines in Vogt's postgame remarks. That's as critical as he ever is commenting on a player's performance.

I get your point, but at the same time, we have to see how he matures... He's in the rotation regardless... Plus if he really was a head case, this team would have swapped him by now since he does have a ton of value in a deal...

You're correct, anyone who even remotely looks like a starting pitcher qualifies to be a "mainstay" in this rotation. Unfortunately, Williams talent doesn't match the other attributes to allow him to be a reliable workhorse on a staff which desperately needs another one. So he's here for as long as we need him--and we DO need him--but the minute we can stand dealing this Boras client, I'm inclined to do so. But that's a year or two down the road, when hopefully his tantalizing tools remain mesmerizing to so many.

I think you are giving up on him too soon, but he's gonna get this season to really prove himself... This is a conversation we need to revisit in September since I feel like he's starting to get it and he's going to put it together soon.

They didn’t do a lot of good. The bullpen imploded. Assholes.
Hoping you find other outlets and hobbies whether that's outdoors or otherwise, I've found sports is a good way to get through those Wintry Blues, but relying on the Guardians to uplift your mood may well be a fruitless endeavor this summer as our bats remain so vastly behind our plucky pitching staff.

Also it's just better to diversify time into something more rewarding/enriching or fruitful.

But ofc, to each their own, and wishing ya better days ahead friend!

Guardians win more than lose, unlike a football team... *runs away*

Messing aside, this team will be fine at the end of the day...

Intended point was make an effort to not allow sporting results to dictate your overall levels of joy on the daily...

Doing such is largely a fool's errand, with ever diminshing returns!

Not going to disagree, but baseball peeps know we got 162, so they usually hold together fairly well. Though I cannot say for all of us, how well we hold it together lol

Yeah, me too.

Although the Guards consistently outperform their payroll, I don’t really count on them to counteract other sporting disappointment. They are plucky, and they often scratch their way into the playoffs, but they will never win another World Series, due to the economics of baseball. Too many teams function like the Kansas City A’s for teams like the Yankees and Dodgers. The fact that the Guards can will 90 games in such an environment is a bonafide miracle.

If you're only focused upon winning a WS, you need to find a different sport to follow. The glory of baseball is the pennant chase, or in today's game, the division race.

Thats why there's never been a great movie, and only one good book that I've read, that was about a World Series.

In all of MLB there is only one division that is played on a fairly level field, and that's the AL Central. That's the true measuring stick for this org...and thru the years the Tribe/Guards have been immensely successful.

If you are a follower of HS football in Ohio, the most successful program, bar none, is tiny Maria Stein Marion Local. Nobody else is close. But if the playoff system was a single division brawl, Marion Local would get their butts kicked badly, once they got to the Moellers, Massillons, and Hobans.

If their measuring of success was focused solely upon being the absolutely best team in all of Ohio, they would be just like so many fans on here, for whom its WS or Bust.

Perhaps we get extremely lucky. Perhaps we beat the better than 50 to one odds and win the Series. That should be the goal, but true success lies a month before the WS is over.

Baseball's too random to say they won't win WS. Make the playoffs and hope you get hot at the right time. 1997 and 2016 were an inch away.

I suppose. But I think it is too hard to overcome teams like the Dodgers and Yankees with de facto payrolls of half a billion. No margin for error, with 20% of the payroll.

You’re rather insufferable Mr. Trout
