2026 Cleveland Guardians Post Season Thread

I think I’d prefer the white Sox, better familiarity, astros past scandal and yordan scare me some, plus I like Chicago’s proximity and the thought of adding more juice to divisional rivalries.

This thread is overdue!

Who do the Guards want to face in the first round? Astros or White Sox?
I was out installing political banners around the country with my buddy who is an avid Astros and Houston Cougers fan.

His description of the Astros. "Their starting pitching is non-existent. Everyone is hurt. The best starting pitcher now is a guy named Wesneski who I've never heard of before a few weeks ago. However if Alvarez gets hot, he can carry the team, but that's a long shot."

I'll take the Astros instead of the Sox.

(this recovering Catholic does not want to face the Pope's team. He seems like a good dude. Let the Astros ruin his baseball fandom season.)

Chicago has been a poor road team. The Stros have been okay on the road.

Both rotations are so poor and maxed out from late stretch runs that they are using openers for first game. If the series goes three games, they both will be forced to use their best starter(s) later in the week, meaning they probably wont be available twice in a series against us.

Im hoping for a three game series in which every game goes into extras and the losing team scores at least nine runs.

Burn, baby, burn.

Joey Cantillo threw one of his best games v. Astros this year.

1. thanks for posting the thread...
2. this was posted in the other thread.. but, it should have a home here, too. It answers your question...

I just don't think we'll mess around with an opener in the ALDS. Just go to Bibee in game 3 with the Crawford boxes in left and that RHH lineup (outside of Alvarez, who I'd just walk every time he's up if possible).

Maybe I do something different if the White Sox prevail...
..agree....

...not knowing who the LDS opponent that comes to the north coast will be a Vogt'er call right around the day after the conclusion of the Wildcard round... If Vogt'er thinks Bibee gives the Guards the best chance to win... he'll be our guy..

....it would be more likely to see the Danny Espino opener / Joey Cantillo bulk reliever if the matchup has the Southsiders not playing at the corner of West 35th street and Wentworth...

oh.. imho.. Neither team, the CWSox or the Astros were any better than mediocre down their runs to a playoff spot.. like a game or two over .500 in the last month of the regular season...

We'll see...

We should be cheering for a 3 game series regardless of who wins. Both are going bullpen game for G1 and whoever they'd start in G2 and G3 would be unavailable for G1 of the ALDS on Saturday. I think I'd actually prefer the Astros in 5.
I hope each game goes 15 plus innings...
