2026 Lake County

Still early...knew LaViolette was striking out, but I didn't realize that Jace, Schubart, and Gonzalez are all in the top 8 for Ks in the Midwest League.

Crazy game so far. 11-8 Captains in the 6th! Tin Caps had Tom Candiotti’s son pitching in the 5th.

Aaron Walton 4-4 with two doubles, a triple, a steal and an error! Also reached on catchers interference prior to the steal.
Update: he actually has two steals tonight. Need a calculator to keep track here lol!

LaViolette 2-4 with one K… ends up 3-5 but the hits were ground balls of which only one made it to the outfield.

Aaron Walton with a bomb. I like this kid, he’s got some potential.

Let's see how Walton does when he gets to Akron late next season... He is still a 2029 ETA at the moment, but lets see if he can move that schedule up...

Jace starting to heat up.
Yep, absolutely scalding the ball he is.

I wonder, where is this vaunted "speed" of his? No stolen bases, caught twice for the athletic one...

Jackson Humphries got the loss today...he's now...{checks to make sure this can possibly be true}...4 wins and 24 losses for his professional career. Yikes. He's a big southpaw and only 21, so there's (gulp) room to grow, I guess.

And the Captains whiff another 14 times today...although Jace wasn't among them! Alas, he didn't play.

He was up to 95 last start. He was barely 90-91 last year because of a sickness that made him lose a ton of weight. The start for him this season is GREAT compared to where he appeared headed last year. Zibin, Humphries, Campbell, Espino… it’s like the walking dead coming out of nowhere to begin pitching professionally this year and healthy for the first time.

The only thing left now is to wake up one day soon and read about Brady Aiken and Ethan Hankins both hitting 98mph in a private, side by side workout in Arizona with Adam Miller being their personal pitching coach.

Humphries starred at a high school not even five miles from where I live, and Carlos Rodon starred just five miles in a different direction. Lot of good baseball in these parts, and Cleveland's area scout lives nearby as well. I'm glad to hear Humphries remains a physical specimen with upside.
