I still see him as a solid #5 starter for us, though he’s getting a bit old, especially if 2027 gets locked out

Why does his age matter? Kluber was nothing until his age 27 season... Plus we would have Peterson under control with two more option years... We don't have to worry about our rotation for years...

Age of prospects clearly matters. Every single organization takes age into account.
There are always exceptions, but a 27 year old is much more likely to succeed at AAA than say a 22 year old even thought they can be a much worse MLB prospect.

And? We have him for his prime years for cheap...
The way starting pitching is around the league... Age is irrelevant as long as they are being effective and under team control... Yes he won't be as high of a prospect, but it doesn't change his depth spot nor his position within the organization... They aren't going to move him just because he is 27.
He’s made 32 starts in AAA over two seasons and has a cumulative era around 4.30. That screams minor league depth starter, or maybe Cecconi-quality MLB 5th starter at best. And age is not his friend, no matter how one cuts it.

Peterson 2025: 90 innings, 4.27 ERA, 1.37 WHIP, .270 BAA
Peterson 2026: 81 innings, 4.57 ERA, 1.44 WHIP, .274 BAA
Both years at Columbus. Not seeing any progress. Looks like he's topped out unless something unexpected happens. He might be better as a reliever. Have him go one inning at a time and just use his two best pitches. Worked for Gaddis.

Sometimes minor league stats are important.
Sometimes minor league stats are meaningless.
99.9% of the time minor league stats can tell you anything you want them to.
To me the most important Peterson stat this year is he went from 0 plus pitches to 2 with a borderline 3rd. Getting hurt in camp and delaying a start to in game reps with new stuff really hurt him and Yorman, but still a lot to like in both of those guys.
We're seeing 1st hand what an overreaction to an injury plagued season can do for guys like Chourio and Francisca right now.

As someone pointed out who is way more knowledgeable than I... Peterson like Allen, have been working on their repertoire...
Peterson is going to be a solid 4th/5th starter when healthy... He has always had a high floor, but the organization is trying to likely take advantage of that 6'6 frame with that extension and give him a better pitch mix...
Remember Kluber was eh until he found the right mix pitch... That is what they are doing with Peterson and since Peterson doesn't need to be up yet, they are making sure he gets it right in a sense...
I am not saying he will be Kluber, but I am saying he is an unfinished product so stop looking at the numbers when those numbers are just part of growing pains... Do not forget AAA is a bit hitter friendly...
They brought Kluber into the system in 2010 and he was a quality mlb starter by 2013 and cy young in 2014. We brought in Peterson out of college in 2022. 4 years later he’s a meh AAA starter.
