Maybe. But the game was tied and we were shut out 1-0 over the last four frames facing a bullpen on fumes. As I see it, that's on the bats. Can't they bail out our hurlers once in awhile?

He was a MiLB acquisition... We didn't spend any money on him, so he was more of a cheap veteran RH who knew what his playing time was and accepted that... almost everyone else we target took less money for more playing time elsewhere... If people haven't like Hoskins then one of the others signing here would have been worse since they are getting three or four times the pay and doing the same or less...

The problem is SPs are creatures of habit and Bibee warmed up multiple times, which almost always messes up an SP...

I wish we had a long man, since it would have been better to start a long man than Bibee...

What about the White Sox starter? Didn't he endure the same issue? Bibee threw a clunker and that's on him. Anytime a team scores 6 runs it should win.
 
You'd like to see these guys having more fun out there.

Sure they can, but that doesn't make it a reasonable expectation on any given night. 6 runs regardless of when they're scored should net you a win in MLB. Especially with a top 10 pitching staff.

Fedde didn't have to warm up, their opener (Murphy) did. Fedde was able to start warming up in the top of the first. Not making excuses for Bibee, but he was clearly upset about the situation. As I said in the game thread, I would have sent him home when I saw his reaction to Vogt letting him know the game was delayed. He pitched to the level of Fedde in a game we were favored to win. Rain messed us up again, and Tanner just didn't handle the situation well.

And again, despite all that, the game was tied heading to the sixth. TIED. As good as zero-zero. And our bats never got another run. I guess they quit because "they did their jobs" scoring six and that was it? Our high leverage relievers did their jobs...against their low leverage relievers, our bats did nothing. How long were we supposed to wait to score again? Tenth, eleventh, twelfth inning?

As for this series, breaking even with our closest competitor while Jose is out is a win. Would have liked to have gotten more, but happy with what we got.

On this date last year, Manzardo had a 98 wRC+. Hes at 99 tonight.

On this date in 2024, Manzo was in Columbus after a 59 wRC+ got him banished.

For whatever reason(s), Bibee threw a clunker. I didn't get to see the start of the game.

So what are we discussing here? The fact that the offense didn't score anymore runs after scoring 6 or the fact that the pitching allowed 7? I personally don't give a shit if they score 6 runs in the first inning or the last. 6 runs should be enough to win a MLB game. I'm not blaming the offense for this one, just like I don't blame the pitching when they lose 3-1.

Had the offense mustered two more runs for the win it was still a poor performance from a pitching perspective.
 
Yeah well tell Thome to get back to me when Cleveland has a lineup like he was in.

The White Sox are much like the Guardians in the idea that they are a talented, but young team. Chicago having the better offense and Cleveland having the better pitching staff.

While much improved with the glove, Manzardo provides little defensive value so it must be his bat that carries him. Being ever so slightly under league average isn't enough. I'm confident he has it in him to provide much more with the bat.

I don't have Manzardo's splits for last year at this point in the season, but my concern continues to be his ineffective hitting vs. RHP. This year his OPS against RHP is .708 despite a .301 BABIP. Last year he had a .789 OPS against RHP while carrying a .281 OBP. So where are the ingredients for a positive correction coming from? If there's a correction coming, it's likely vs. LHP against whom he's carrying a lofty .343 BABIP.

I know you remain sanguine about Kyle, but I'm just seeing an awful lot of poor plate appearances against RHP he should clobber, and our overall record against RHP reflects his inability to give us consistently good AB's in the middle of our order.

He didn't since he wasn't starting, he was an opener/reliever then a follower... Completely and utterly a different situation...
