Lucky for the Guardians, pretty much the entire AL has been like this outside of two teams, the Yankees and Devil Rays. Boston went on an insane tear just to level back out with that group.
The Guards have one of the strongest pitching staffs in the AL, and the offense has been significantly better since the deadline trades. They were 51-46 at the break, went through a brutal stretch, and are still right in the middle of both the division and Wild Card race.

In this AL, they don't need to suddenly become a 100-win team. They just need to keep pitching like this(sans tonight) and get enough offense.

And even if they don't win the series, a day playin ball is better than a day workin every day of the week!
 
Game 3 preview:

Not much chance of beating Dylan Cease in Game 2 to it's on to Game 3 for the series decider.

Jose Soriano, a 27-year-old right-hander, takes the ball for Toronto. Soriano is 11-7 with a 3.45 ERA so it doesn't get much easier. However, in his last three starts Soriano has allowed 11 runs in 17.1 innings so he's hit a speed bump. He has not faced the Guardians this year. Soriano made 22 starts for the Angels before being traded to Toronto. In five starts for the Jays his ERA is 4.13.

Opponents are hitting .228/.646 against him but lefties have a .702 OPS and Vogt will stack the order with lefties. Current members of the Guardians have a slash line of .300/.966 against him. Jose is 4-for-13 with 3 home runs and Rocchio is 3-for-6. Kwan has been on base 5 times in 10 PA's.

Tanner Bibee has allowed 3 runs or less in 8 of his last 9 starts. His ERA for the season is 3.88 and he did not face Toronto in April. Bibee's run support this year has been almost nonexistent as evidenced by his 5-14 record.

The players on the Jays roster are hitting .318/.833 against Bibee. Guerrero is 4-for-9 while Gimenez, Lukes, and Kirk are all 2-for-5. Vlad went off on Wednesday, going 3-for-4 with a home run and a double.

The Guardians could really use a win after yesterday's 11-0 shellacking, not to mention that they are still clinging to a 1.5 game lead for the last wild card spot.

Tomorrow is a double-header against the Tigers so we need Bibee to go 6 innings so as not to burn out the bullpen.

Soriano has gotten rocked from time to time… I had him in my fantasy team last year, he can be infuriating. Hopefully we see the infuriating side tomorrow.

We didnt lose ground tonight to Chicago, but we did lose some time. We are now in the part of the schedule when we begin battling the clock.

We also didnt lose ground to our two closest WC competitors.
