Okay, so the Cavs came up short... Injuries really hurt them and honestly a healthy roster gets into the playoffs, so I want to see what type of moves you guys think we should make!

Kevin Love+Cedi+Windler for Giannis

Dude we all wish...

I shall start... First of since we didn't playoffs, we have a late lotto pick... likely 14...

First moves, good riddance to Rondo and Ed Davis... We really don't need either guy next season. Frazier we don't need to retain either, that's 3 spots... on the 15, but we can have a max of what 20 until a certain date right?

I am not against bringing back Goodwin into camp on a non-guarenteed/partially guaranteed contract. Making it 14... Retain Wade, Brown, Nembhard and Stevens.

Next up, One or both of LeVert or Sexton has to go... I am leaning towards Sexton only. Also I think it's time for Windler to go as well. Can we package them together? Also I think Love is kept for next season. Like I want his contract off the books, but at the same time, I thought he did a great job in the bench role.

Next move... Is there anyway in hell we could sign and trade Sexton with Windler and our 1st round pick for Bogdanovic and Hunter of the Hawks? Lol Something like that would make life more interesting around here...

Then we would just need depth pieces... So we would get Rubio/veteran floor general, an athletic big man/PF/C depth....

There is only trade I would to see happen (that I can believe might be available to make) and that’s for Beal. Any other player fitting the bill for this is not going to happen without giving one of our Big Three (and that I’m not doing)

Draft:
#14 Tari Eason
Spurs pick: trade for multiple future 2nds
Heat pick: Isaiah Mobley

Trade:
Levert to Lakers for THT + salary

Sign:
Sexton (3yrs / $55m)
Tyus Jones ($10m/year MLE)

Not a cap expert so I’m not sure on FA stuff, but I love Jones. Would leave us with

Garland/Jones
Sexton/Okoro/THT
Lauri/Eason/THT
Mobley/Love
Allen/Isaiah Mobley

Would also love to get a vet banger C (McGee/Lopez) but not sure we can afford them

I'll play, fantasy land.

Our pick jumps to top 4, we select Jabari Smith to be the long term third tower.

We trade Lauri and LeVert to NOP for the 8th pick, Steven Adams TPE, Devonte Graham and Garrett Temple.

We trade 8th pick and Sexton to Detroit for another top 4 pick.

Then trade Okoro + Cedi to Miami for Duncan Robinson.

Garland/Rubio/Graham
Ivey/Robinson/Windler
Jabari/Stephens/Temple
Mobley/Love/Wade
Allen/vet C/Brown

Muffinalt (as that is my gamer tag) is voted Exec of the Year in 2k.

Cleveland receives: Anfernee Simons S&T 4 years, $75 million
Portland receives: Caris LeVert & whoever we pick @ #14 + 2 2nds

PG: Darius Garland / Collin Sexton / Ricky Rubio
SG: Anfernee Simons / Isaac Okoro
SF: Lauri Markkanen / Cedi Osman / Dylan Windler / Lamar Stevens
PF: Evan Mobley / Kevin Love / Dean Wade
C: Jarrett Allen / Moses Brown
Coach: J.B. Bickerstaff

Seems like it happens every summer. Big time NBA players want to be traded. Two guys that the Cavs have the assets to get are Karl-Anthony Towns or Brandon Ingram.
KAT is a top 20 player and has a cap hit of $31M. Jarrett Allen is a bargain at $20M a year. Issac Okoro still has upside and is on the books for $7M. Dylan Windler hits the cap for $2M a year and can’t get on the floor.
Okoro, Allen, Windler, #14 this year and an unprotected #1 in 2024 might get it done if KAT wants traded.

Ingram is a top 10 Small Forward. He’s on the books at $30M. Caris LeVert $17M and Lauri Markkanen $15M might be a better fit with Zion Williamson than Ingram.
LeVert, Markkanen, #14 this year and an unprotected #1 in 2024 could be enough.

Free Agents to consider for part of the Mid level Exception of $10M. Montrezl Harrell, Pat Connaughton, Bobby Portis, Victor Oladipo, Ricky Rubio and Malik Monk

Free Agents to consider for the Veterans Minimum. Markieff Morris, Tristan Thompson, DeMarcus Cousins and Andre Drummond.

I would prefer to see the Towns trade.
Garland/Rubio
Sexton/LeVert
Markkanen /Osman/Stevens
Mobley/Love/Wade
Towns/Cousins/Thompson

NBA disallows trading of #1 picks in consecutive years, per Stepian rule.

Oops. I forgot about that. It was my understanding that the transaction could occur after the draft? So the Cavs would pick a player that another team would want?

He's a borderline top 5 SF already and he's only 24. Other than him coming out and demanding a trade, I can't find a real reason to justify NO trading him at this point. If I were Griff, I'd want to see CJ, Ingram, Jones, Zion, JV, Nance, etc. play together for a few months before I made any major trade. Pelicans are super young and the Ingram/McCollum combo was really good after they made the trade. They have a lot of moves they can make to significantly improve the team without trading someone like Ingram.

A few questions I have in regards to potential offseason moves:

- Does the board believe Sexton can be a complimentary SG to Garland? I know he was drafted as a PG… can he excel in a different role? I haven’t followed closely enough to know whether he’s good at creating his own shot, spot up shooting, etc. If not, maybe we move on from him and look to find a pure two guard.
- What do we do with LaVert and Markkanen? If Sexton stays, which one would start at SF and which one would come off the bench? IIRC, LaVert is naturally a SG but can play both. Perhaps one of them gets dealt, but what would a return look like?
- I think one of the biggest priorities this offseason should be to upgrade the backup PG position. Is the likely solution a free agent vet? I know there is a Georgia PG that some have projected to us at #14, but not sure how comfortable I’d be having a fringe lottery pick thrown into leading the second unit day one.

Thanks.

Welcome to the board. My opinion may not be the majority but:

1. I do believe Sexton offers skills that are needed on this team (scoring, speed). He's probably not the best fit next to Garland but they can certainly work on the same team esp if Sexton comes off the bench or at the very least their minutes are staggered. I personally think the Cavs should re-sign Sexton esp if the sign & trade market is light for him this summer. I guess it all depends on whether Collin wants to resign here and what his agency Klutch will be demanding salarywise.

2. I think they like Markkanen alot and may eventually move him to that Kevin Love first big off the bench role esp if they are able to eventually find a true SF. As for LeVert I believe alot of it depends on his contract. He only has one year remaining and is eligible for an extension this summer. It probably comes down to what the Cavs are willing to pay him. They could also use him as a trade chip.

3. Agreed that backup PG or at the very least another ballhandler is a big need. I think they address it in free agency. Rubio may be an option but is injury status is murky. There are several other FA PG's such as Delon Wright, and Tyus Jones that could be available for the MLE. If they *hopefully* keep Sexton I think it is important to find a Rubio type PG that can play alongside him as well as run the 2nd unit to give Garland more rest. I'm personally hoping they use #14 pick to address the big wing issue on this team. Luckily there appear to be several SF or big SG options that could be available to them.

Thanks for the response. I like Sexton on an individual level and would love to make it work for him in Cleveland. It also seems like drafting a big wing is another high priority from browsing the site.

Going off what you said, I wouldn’t mind a lineup that looks something like this,

PG: Garland, MLE vet
SG: Sexton, LeVert, Osman
SF: Acquisition (or Okoro?), big wing via draft
PF: Mobley, Markkanen, Love?
C: Allen, free agent (or Love?)

Lots of possibilities to present different looks on offense while being pretty flexible defensively.
