jeferson or edgar? either/or.. both?

Was thinking Angel's Edgar as I was just talking the other day about if Angels would be desperate enough to want a Bieber trade where, if so, we would line up good on the 2ndary (with Edgar being that one) and 3rd type prospect but nothing on top to lead the trade other than them throwing in a Detmers who we could keep or turn around and trade. Yet, Jefferson would line up well but the question is if Brewers would part with him even though they just landed Contreras to be back there. But, out of 50 games, he has caught 33 for them and only DHed 4 times. Yet, I would probably want to focus on OF on them. And, I don't know what they will do with their pitching injuries which have June/July timelines to return. I am sure they are in wait and see mode on if they can get their pitchers back to shore it up. It's their relievers that need help (even worse than us 0.0, if possible) FG War. If they want to do Civale for their Quero as a starting point, I would be interested.

Why would you want to put Freeman in RF? His arm is questionable for LF and he has no power. .

Sorry for confusion. I would be fine with getting bats in any way into the line up whether it be Freeman to RF which was in reference to transitioning Westburg in a trade (even though just new to position). Yet, as Freeman doesn't have arm or power, my point was, get him into the OF and be the new Arias super utility guy as that was the role I saw him playing for the last couple years (especially as he hasn't gotten his shot at 2nd here or anywhere for that matter). Then if Arias can cut down on strike outs and keep some power up, I wouldn't mind seeing him in RF or 1B at times (subbing Naylor/Brennan or others). Yes, a power RH bat (that we thought we had in Bell) would be preferable. Yet, for myself, I don't mind having either a .240 30 HR hitter or .300 hitter with 10 HRs. There is a transition place there where both would have equal value. And, if Freeman can do that as a super utility (and get more time playing/subbing LF/SS/2nd, so be it -- let Arias have more time in RF.

What did we give for Miller? A good prospect is not out of the question for a RP. It depends on the RP.

How ironic would it be if all of Bieber, Quantrill and Civale were dealt and Plesac kept. Kind of makes me chuckle, but he the most easily dumped when one of the kids are ready to replace him. Maybe he pitches well and creates some value. I'm not suggesting this is what they do, it was just a funny, random thought.
I agree but I was looking at a Plesac conversion to pen as our trade piece. Ain't going to get much (5 BTV value) and Santos is now 1.2 BTV but should be higher, Sandlin is 5.6 BTV. But as you said, it is just funny money as each org will have a different value. But, a regular reliever is nothing like Miller trade (that would be Clase and maybe Stephan/Hentges on the lower side of scale of magnitude).

Funny thing when I read it quickly the first time, I read it as what did we get for (Owen) Miller. That maybe another trade that bites us in the but. He currently has a 1.2 FG War vs Ramires 1.3. Yes, I would rather have Ramirez and Gimenez long-term and even Rocchio. But, it goes to show that sometimes guys just take a little (or a lot) time to develop as he had 670 ABs with us and showed nothing much. But, aren't these trade finalized in 6 months (from Dec 14th)? And, who was the space for? Dr Z...

Sorry, I didn't even think about the Owen deal. Sorry for the confusion.

Speaking of him, his initial exposure was a huge success and as a prospect he was a fantastic hitter. I liked him better than Freeman because he has a bit more power. It's good to see him finding success even if it's not with Cleveland. I think his time in Cleveland resembled what Arias and Freeman are going through now. I knew he was a good hitter then and I still do.

Oh come on.
Sure, he's a 33-year-old defensive liability in LF who can't hit either way, but he has veteran leadership oozing out of every pore!

He actually has a positive defensive rating in LF... Still has some pop with the bat and takes his walks. I was just thinking to get him super cheap and see if he can get back anything of his younger self. If he doesn't then we don't have to add him to the MLB roster on a MiLB deal.

Do we really need a minor league version of Josh Bell?

Hard to say... I wouldn't be against bringing in a couple veterans on MiLB deals as long as they don't take ABs from top prospects. You never know what injuries will pop up as well. Plus Cleveland is known for willing to find new teams for veterans when the trade deadline comes around as well.

This idea is just dumb and backwards thinking. C'mon coach, you don't think that any opportunities that come about due to injuries shouldn't be given to young guys?

St Louis going to land a SP before the ASG?

The Cards are working their way back into contention and with how winnable the NL Central looks, I have to think they're leaning more and more into being buyers. I know I predicted Bieber would wind up at the Orioles but the Cards would make a lot of sense there as well. Maybe the Red Sox would float Chris Sale as he looks better and better?

Okay, I have a weird trade idea... I am not sure if it would work from the Reds perspective, but I think it works for Cleveland at the end of the day... @CDAV45 you should love it lol @Gson we gotta have your opinion as well...

Alright so the idea is to add legit prospect bats...

Cleveland gets
SP Bradish (Bal)
SP Petty (Cin)
OF Haskins (Bal)
2B/OF Norby (Bal)
MIF Westburg (Bal)

Cincinnati gets
OF Straw
MIF Freeman

Baltimore gets
SP Bieber

Okay, so the idea of the trade is move Straw and Freeman for someone useful in the future, in this case an SP prospect in Petty who is a couple seasons away.

This creates space to add three RH bats in Norby, Westburg and Haskins...

Next order of business is move/cut Rosario...

Then the 26 man roster looks like this...

LF Kwan, CF Brennan/Haskins (when he's healthy), RF Westburg, 3B JRam, SS Arias, 2B Gimenez, 1B Naylor/Bell, C Zunino, Bench - Fry, Norby, Gallagher...

Norby plays 2B, SS, LF, RF... Fry is 1B, 3B, C...

Brennan, Haskins are both plus CF who can play in the corners... So Westburg would get subbed out late game, with whoever is on the bench Brennan/Haskins while Brennan gors to RF and Haskins to CF...

It's possible we replace Zunino with Naylor at this point as well...

What do you guys think?

If your telling me the plan is to get rid of Straw and Rosario, well hell.......you had me right there.

I don't know why the Reds would agree to this, but I like it from Cleveland's perspective, but I'd rather get Johnson from Baltimore than Haskins.

Cleveland has been trying to focus on defense in CF and Haskins is a defense first CF, but Haskins can get you 15 HRs a season... So he's pretty much Straw who can hit a HR now and again. I figured he would be the right guy to mix in with Brennan... We don't drop off much on defense so we won't lose anything that way.

Also with this deal... Only Bradish is on a 40 man roster... They don't have to be added right away, so you can get Westburg a bit of time at AAA straight OF so the transition is a little easier...

The Reds wouldn't..

Neither should the Guardians..

While getting Petty would be a nice add (MOR SP / Back of the Pen, ceiling) and well conceived as part of this deal.... The rest of it offers more questions than solutions.. Bradish's delivery looks like a lot of moving parts and a lot of effort.. Guys like him almost always end up losing control or having to have ligament surgery.. The two middle infielders being given the opportunity to move other positions says the deal is not well thought out.. The biggest problem with this deal is the FAILURE to address the catching situation if one or both of Basallo and/or Tanner are excluded...

David Fry isn't the answer.. (neither is Zunino & Lavas.. as stated in the spring training) Catching is the key to the Guardians near future.. This deal ignores that desperate need.. Easy pass..
