23 MLB Offseason News!

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Speaking of which I’m surprised there isn’t a thread discussing the WBC. Is anyone watching? I’ve liked the WBC since its inception and enjoy international competitions. I think this could help gain new fans that baseball desperately needs. Unfortunate Edwin Diaz got hurt, but he did it during celebration and I’d chalk that up as “shit happens.” Hope this doesn’t mean clubs won’t allow their star players to go in future years.

Went last night to US/Colombia. It was a great atmosphere. Saw a lot of USA gear, but many others wearing their teams gear. Mexico jerseys everywhere, makes sense given the proximity to Phoenix.

I wouldn’t put it on par with Progressive Field during the playoffs, but it was pretty damn close.

PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. — On Thursday, New York Mets General Manager Billy Eppler held the news conference no general manager wanted to hold this month. He was the one whose superstar suffered a likely season-ending injury in the World Baseball Classic, the nightmare scenario, the one all 30 teams risked when they allowed their players to represent their countries in the quadrennial event.
Eppler announced that his closer, Edwin Díaz, suffered a full tear of his right patella tendon when his knee buckled during Puerto Rico’s celebration on the field in Miami on Wednesday night. A team doctor was at the stadium. He had known it right away. By the time Eppler addressed reporters, Díaz was already headed to surgery and into the uncertainty of what Eppler said is normally an eight-month recovery. Even if the Mets make the World Series, they have about seven months to go.

Sad way to get injured.. But if the Mets needed something to rally behind, they have it now.

Rally without the top closer in MLB. Not sure they were looking for that type of motivation.

Normally this type of injury would have happened eventually...

I really want to see a game there… And honestly this makes me miss some dome stadiums….

I saw Griffey in the Kingdome and saw the Astros in ‘98 at the Astrodome….

Tampa is just not cutting it — wish there was another dome stadium or 2…

Sad way, but at least not a dumb way.

I’m old enough to remember the Steve Sparks injury.

Jose Altuve has been an amazing talent, truly worth the price of admission.
He's out for a spell with a broken thumb suffered in a vanity game, and I don't care.

I hate him, the arrogant cheating prick.

So it's USA v Japan tomorrow for all the marbles. Do we get Ohtani? He didn't pitch tonight. Could be a fun game!

Yu Darvish on the hill to start for Japan on Tuesday in the title game.

Smoltz was commenting on it during the broadcast..

EDIT:
IF Mexico had held on , Taijuan Walker was scheduled to start for Team Mexico in the title game (per Smoltz)

According to ESPN, Japan is starting Shota Imanaga, not Darvish.

Merrill Kelly is the best the US can throw out there in the finals?!

Umm... Don't underrate him! He's actually been pretty good the last few years. Too many of the top American arms though aren't doing the WBC since they don't want to chance anything going wrong...
