23 Offseason GM Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
They're able to move Plesac due to the current SP depth they already have Coach. They aren't looking to replace Plesac, they're looking to upgrade..

You've been on this BP kick for quite some time and I still don't think they make a trade like this for one. Again, the only hole to fill in the BP is the one left by Shaw and that won't be difficult to do after his performance. Besides, it seems like every year they find a De La Santos laying around and snatch him up. The BP and rotation aren't issues until they are if you get what I'm saying. Maybe they can turn Amed into a good backend BP arm. Would you be ok with that?

We need another C. I think it would be nice to have a SS that is better than average. It would be nice to consolidate some of our BOR SP for an upgrade. I don't care if it's Lopez, Marquez or Lauer. All 3 in my eyes would at the very least fall in behind TMac.
the cost of SP's at the ML level has risen so high that trading for one has become or is approaching being cost prohibitive.. An SP that can be ready by the ASB would be the most enticing target for a limite resource team like the Guardians..

Find those guys and when the club who owns them, discover their needs.. and a deal can be made..

One thing closely approaches absolute... buying a FA SP is looney toons.. 7 years and longer.. $ 20 MM and higher.. for that?..

Yeah our Guardians will never be in on FA SP.

We are already pretty crammed with pitchers in the upper minors. Allen, Bibee, Williams, and Espino all have a shot of pitching at some point in 2023 if we want them to. If we want to add, it IMO has to be someone already performing at the ML level.

I think we will try to get one...

I have no doubt we will try to get one. They probably already have had discussions with teams, but it will not be via FA for the type of pitcher we're talking about. I agree with KS, it will be someone already performing at the ML level and they will have to come to us via a trade.

Like Carlos Carrasco?

The more I look into it the better the Angels look as a trade partner. These 2 teams can help each other if they choose to.

Quero
Bush
Silseth

to fill the left side of their infield.. and any pitching they can get?

What's the idea?

I want Rengifo to play 2B in any deal. I'd send them Civale, Curry and Miller for Rengifo, Quero, Bush and Bachman. What do you guys think of that? In a more "far out" trade, I'd send them Plesac, Gonzalez, Curry and Rosario for Rengifo and Ward.

If they'd prefer to get Arias I wouldn't let that hold up any deal. Especially the latter one. Then we could use Quantrill and Sandlin to get Jansen. Boom! Done other than adding a SP upgrade and there would still be plenty of prospect/player capital to get that done.

The first one has possibilities even if Bachman was replaced by ___________ (someone).. The second.. not so much (due primarily to the inclusion of SpongeBob)..

Yeah the 2nd one is a reach. So let's go with Civale, Curry and Miller for Rengifo, Quero, Bush and Bachman(or whoever). Then send Quantrill and Sandlin to Toronto for Jansen. We've wrapped up 2B with a good defender and hitter, C with Jansen and still plenty of assets to trade for Lopez, Marquez or whoever can upgrade the rotation. Send Plesac and Rosario to ATL for Ian Anderson and Soroka.

Plesac leaving.. zero problems with even though I believe he can play a pivotal role in the pen..

Civale leaving.. some issues as I think his presence / work ethic / skills are not as easy to replace..

Quantrill leaving.. not interested...

Lopez, Marquez and so on.. have talent... there may be too many competitors to make a reasonable deal happen.. and then, they'd be short timers anyway.. so.. maybe not..

I like both of the Atlanta guys but am wary of their medicals.. Muller from Atlanta is just as interesting.. Interesting, though.. before the start of last year.. Wright of the Braves was being shopped as a bounce back bargain that could be had for a good prospect/45+ FV type.. You can't touch him today for anything less than a top 5.. The same may be said for Soroka/Anderson's situation(s)...

I don't think that's gonna work lol

I understand the angst over Quantrill leaving, but I'm not done dealing so here me out. Call Miami and tell them that Valera, Rocchio and Gaddis are on a flight to them and to get Lopez on the next flight to Cleveland. So when the smoke clears Quantrill, Civale, Valera, Rocchio, Sandlin, Miller, Plesac, Rosario, Curry and Gaddis going out with Rengifo, Quero, Bush, Bachman(or alternative), Jansen, Lopez, Soroka and Anderson coming in. None of these deals by themselves are far fetched, but the sum of them is another story. Quero, Bush and Bachman add quality to the minor league depth. We improve the MIF with the addition of Rengifo. We improve the rotation with the addition of Lopez. We improve the production from C with Jansen. Finally, we add quality arms to the back of the rotation with Soroka and Anderson. The rotation depth would be Bieber, TMac, Lopez, Anderson, Morris, Soroka, Pilkington, Battenfield and Allen. Plenty of depth to allow all of Bibee, Williams, Espino, Bachman and Bush to finish off their development.
