23 Offseason GM Thread

Yuli Gurriel is still available... good contact hitter against lefties, doesn't hit for a lot of power but we still don't really have an option for platooning with Naylor unless we think Arias or Freeman are the answer. I don't like the move now because we do need to at least give the youngsters a chance but if we were to trade Rosario, which would allow Arias to play SS or Gimenez SS / Freeman 2B, then we essentially could just plug him into a bench / platoon role (he also can play 3B). He'd be a cheap plug for a hole.

According to what exactly? In fact Benson looks very similar to Outman - an athletic guy with contact problems who has seen some recent AAA success after making adjustments. Especially if you think that Outman is a CF guy, but I'd think Benson has the edge defensively.

Benson has never carried the BA that Outman has. That makes a big difference when comparing guys that have high strikeout rates. I also believe that you are going to see Outman's SO% continue downward. His swing is mechanically much different than it was 2 seasons ago. He showed a good eye today.

Regardless, me talking about Outman is pointless. The Dodgers aren't going to trade him to Cleveland for Rosario. The Dodgers like him too much and Cleveland isn't going to take Straw out of CF unfortunately.

I think playing Arias at 1B is a total waste of exceptional MIF talent, but he's probably one of your options. Although Bell was signed for that exact reason wasn't he? I'm not sold on the idea that Tito is going to bench Naylor against LHP kinda like he isn't going to bench Straw because he can't hit. It is what it is at this point.

Disagree with this..any way Arias is in the lineup going forward is going to be a good thing.. the kid is talented.. & needs every AB he can get..

I agree with the AB aspect for sure. I just think he is way too good with the glove at SS to be playing 1B, but there is nobody else so.....

Why would either of you want anything to do with Yuli? Are we trying to get better here or just sign more meh players? Hell, I'd rather see Fry given the AB than bring on someone like Gurriel. At least there's some upside with Fry however unlikely that may be.

How about this idea. Make a good offer to the Nationals for Meneses. He can get AB from all of 1B, DH, LF and RF. When Bell opts out then we have our other 1B/DH. We've got a shit ton of prospects and the Nationals are in the middle of a rebuild. There has to be a match doesn't there?

If not Meneses then call the Mets and ask about Vientos or the Cardinals about Yepez.

Oh yeah! Focusing on the BP is probably the best thing to do since it was so terrible last season and they have no depth.

Any outside addition will require dumping somebody from the 40 man.

It already appears that we will need to do that to add a veteran catcher, so adding an outside reliever would require dumping two.

I dont see the FO bringing in a FA reliever on a MLB contract. We already have a ton of relievers on NRIs to sort thru.

I would expect to bring a Britton on an MLB deal to be sincere... I will take him on a minor league with a solid base salary if he makes the team and an opt out if he doesn't.

I feel we can replace Bilous but at the same time our position player talent, I don't see anyone I would be willing to cut for a pitcher...

Hentges is out and we got Herrin with no MLB experience and Cantillo who isn't known for staying healthy as our lefty options for the pen right now. I'd like to get a veteran LHRP out there...

He actually wouldn't be a bad idea if they plan on giving Rosario 550-600 ABs since that only leaves a couple hundred left at the end of the bench...

Yes I understand we want Freeman on the roster, but I don't want him in the bigs if he's barely gonna play...

Reason why I would do this deal... First off on paper we don't need Rosario so getting Feguson to compliment the bullpen, Frasso as a guy with upside (reminds me of Morris, has good stuff, just injury prone) and Pepiot to help round out the rotation...

Everyone is going to complain but honestly this might be very realistic in a sense... Rosario is overrated via BTV and Outman is underrated... This would also give the Dodgers more MIF talent/depth. Plus it frees up a roster spot for another pitcher/catcher while still having Bilous spot as well... Both Ferguson and Outman could be future guys in Cleveland as well as help in 23...
