23 Offseason GM Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information

Any guys we could be looking at? Roberto Perez or Plawecki? Culberson, Alberto, Matt Duffy or Jose Iglesias for the bench spot?
Perez Plawecki and Leon could all be available. Be still Terry's soul. The Pirates could possibly go with a Hedges/Plawecki catching duo. I would take Roberto back.

That's where you depend on the one of the other guys, part of the acquisition or the young talent to step in. My argument(which is really just an opinion) doesn't have to cut it for you, but that doesn't make it unjustified.
Just so you realize that our opinions are justified as well.

I don't think you'll find anywhere that I said they weren't. In fact, I stated numerous times on many posts what opinions are like and that we all have one. What I can't stand and won't tolerate is my words being twisted in some chicken shit attempt to make oneself appear "correct". You haven't done that as far as I can recall and I'm certainly not accusing you of it. Everyone here knows who's guilty of that shit.

Instant WS champs if any of those 3 are added.

Window starts now and if they didn't feel that way, they wouldn't have signed Bell...
This isn't necessarily true and it's not like he was the top FA bat out there. In fact, everyone is hoping that he performs like he was in Washington and not in SD. Don't get me wrong, I like the signing of Bell, but let's be realistic here. Hopefully he gives this offense a boost because it certainly needs one. Especially if all of Zunino/Gallagher, Straw and Rosario in the lineup. We're treading on thin ice here offensively speaking IMO.

But twisting words around is the fun part of the job! Lol

I really don't think we are on as thin of ice.as you believe. If anything I feel like we will go upwards from last season with very similar starting pitching production.

Hopefully you're right Coach, but while I'm optimistic about guys like Kwan, Gimenez and Gonzalez not regressing reality suggest that it's quite possible. Should that happen it could get ugly real fast. Like I said, hopefully that's not the case. Besides, by May or June Arias could be the starting SS, Naylor the starting C and Brennan the starting CFer and we're cruisin' to another division pennant.

Bottom line, I like the Bell signing and that's about it. If we don't get lucky with the Twins and the White Sox sustaining key injuries again then I think we'll be playing for a WC.

Twins actually already have Injures btw, so they aren't going into the season healthy...

With the way 22 went, I really have a hunch Cleveland is going to actually get to 90+ wins again. I think the offense and SPs will both be better in 23 at the end of the day...

I actually think the bullpen is where we will see a regression hence why I want another arm out there... It's just one of those hunches though, with no concrete evidence why

......and one of my hunches is that they did not do enough to be a WS contender.

The Twins' injuries are Polanco and Kirilloff. Polanco's won't keep him out long if at all and they have plenty of LHH OFers that Kirilloff shouldn't be missed too badly. God forbid Gallo rebounds and knocks 30+ out of the park while playing good defense. Taylor is going to play the majority of CF in the first month or more of the season which will have Buxton DHing.

" Polanco was hampered by a left knee issue that cost him the season’s final month. The organization doesn’t seem overly concerned — president of baseball operations Derek Falvey said a couple weeks ago that Polanco might be ready for Opening Day — but symptoms have lingered into exhibition play and kept him from ramping up as expected. He’ll at least require a week and a half into the regular season to be ready for meaningful game action."

We shall see who's hunch is right in due time lol

Not interested in another utility guy at all, and it looks likely that both Perez and Plawecki will be added. I'm iffy on either of them due to recent performance / injuries, and we've already had other catchers work with our pitchers for long enough during spring. Given what a backup's role is on the team it would seem odd to sign one and add to the roster now.

We do have a catching problem but I am not interested in adding more random names to the dumpster dive buffet without a little quality. The good thing is it doesn't look like there's any opt-out on our catching options so we can stash in the minors as needed (I do know Viloria and Gallagher are out of options though).

Its not something I'd bet on, but there is only a catching 'problem' if Naylor isn't ready to hit the ground running two months into the season and everybody else flames out.

That seems to be the plan. We shall see if it works out.
