Alright, this is a little early, but the inner GM in me, is looking to the next off season since honestly the GM doesn't have much to do the rest of the season since adding player to the 40 man right now is going to happen for a playoff roster since those players are ineligible for playoffs... If anyone gets added after today, it's for someone who can become a minor league free agent that we wanna keep...

We also have some pitching to decide from the 21 draft which is quite deep to be sincere...

Alright first things first let's look at the 40 man roster to start the off season...

Free Agents - Alex Cobb, Matt Boyd, Carlos Carrasco, Shane Bieber, Scott Barlow, Austin Hedges

We would have 3 coming back from 60 man IL, making our active roster 36...

I think Karinchak will be DFA to be sincere...

Let's just put the roster down to 35...

Final year of contract players... OF Lane Thomas, 1B Josh Naylor,

Guys who are in the cut/possibly traded group... Freeman, Brennan, Rocchio, Arias, Morgan, Strzelecki, Gillispie, Sabrowski, JRod, Valera, Brito, Martinez

Now that being stated, our crop of Position players who need to be protected aren't there this off season, so I don't expect us to move on from the Position players at the current moment... I expect if one is dealt it would be more like Jones for Brito type of deal or them put together in a package for a veteran player...

Current depths...

Rotation depth - Bibee, Williams, Lively, TMac, Allen, Cantillo, Avila, Gillispie

I feel like Avila will be stretched out in spring training, but ultimately end up in the pen, but we never know what an off season here will end up doing for him...

Bullpen depth - Clase, Gaddis, Smith, Sandlin, Herrin, Hentges, Morgan, Strzelecki, Sabrowski,

Injured pitchers - Stephan, Espino

Postion players...
C Depth - Bo Naylor,
INF - JNaylor, Gimenez, JRam, Rocchio, Manzardo
OF Kwan, Brennan, Thomas, Valera, JRod
Utility- Fry, Schneeman, Freeman, Arias, Brito, Martinez, Noel,

The list of rule 5 we have to look at is...

Pitchers - Dion, Nikhazy, Webb, Aleman, Stanley, Enright, Davenport, Denholm, Mace, Boone, Leftwich, etc...

Position players - Halpin, Tolentino, Lavastida, Delgado,

Next we gotta look at free agents...

Catching... Pretty much straight old guys at the moment... I am thinking Elias Diaz as the target there... I feel like we will get one of the guys on a major league deal, which one, I am not sure...

When it comes to the rest...

We will be in the bids for Willy Adames and Anthony Santander...

Pitching

I think we will give Carrasco another offer like we did this last off season... I'm sure a few more of those types of deals will be handed out to guys like Beede and whatnot as well...

Shane Bieber will be offered a deal like Woodruff had last off season from Milwaukee. .. 2 year, with the money backloaded on the second season... with maybe some incentives in season one...

I also think Boyd and Cobb will be offered some type of short term contract...

Alright now we go onto November's 40 man roster set and free agency moves...

My projected 40 man roster for this November... are players acquired via trade and will put how acquired at the bottom

Are the players traded/DFA'D at the finalized deadline for the 40 man roster

Are the minor league players added

Pitching

Franco Aleman
Logan Allen
Pedro Avila
Tanner Bibee
Joey Cantillo
Emmanuel Clase
Aaron Davenport
Will Dion
Daniel Espino
Hunter Gaddis
Connor Gillispie
Sam Hentges
Tim Herrin
Ben Lively
Triston McKenzie
Eli Morgan
Doug Nikhazy
Erik Sabrowski
Nick Sandlin
Cade Smith
Trevor Stephan
Peter Strzelecki
Ryan Webb
Gavin Williams

Position players

Catchers

Bo Naylor
Will Banfield
David Fry

INF

Kyle Manzardo
Josh Naylor
Andres Gimenez
Gabriel Arias
Jose Ramirez
Daniel Schneeman
Angel Martinez
Juan Brito
Brayan Rocchio

OF

Steven Kwan
Jhonkensy Noel
Will Brennan
Lane Thomas
Hudson Haskins
George Valera
Tyler Freeman
Petey Halpin

Trades

Rocchio plus JRod, Enright to the Marlins for Snelling and Will Banfield

Reason why for the Marlins... One they need a SS so acquiring Rocchio makes sense that way and he's still a young player... Enright is someone they like as an organization... and JRod adds hitting they need as an organization... They have plenty of pitching so trading Snelling, who had a mixed 24 season is a fair swap... Banfield is because Cleveland prefers defensive catchers plus in the minors he has shown he can hit lefties... Makes a good platoon partner for Naylor...

Eli Morgan for OF Hudson Haskins

This one is a little more simple... Baltimore needs bullpen depth and Cleveland wants a plus CF with team control and he has shown to be able to hit lefties well... Cleveland doesn't have enough space for Morgan and with JRod going to Miami, this gives them the space to add Haskins as a 4th OF...

Thoughts?
1) Way too much bold being used in the post.
2) If your going to propose any trade, you need to be able to explain why the other team (or teams) would be interested in making the deal with CLE, not link to a site that suggests the trade is fair for both sides. Just because you have a car to sell for $1,000 & I have an extra $1,000, doesn't mean I want to buy your car for $1,000.

Fixed line one!

And

Fixed line two!

Now your thoughts?

Personally I feel like Valera or Freeman could be swapped as well...

I feel you over-reached on both trades. Our guys are not valuable enough to land those returns.

I feel that Baltimore will be looking for better than Eli Morgan & they might feel they can get him as a FA if they simply wait out CLE.

As for Miami, their mindset is changing as the FO structure changed coming into this year so their targets/ focus is still evolving. On top of that Will Banfield should be a minor league FA after this season (remember that everyone got a year of service time for the 2020 covid year).

Okay! I wasn't sure who was and wasn't free agents just yet...

Essentially though the idea is Rocchio gets traded for a prospect who isn't rule 5 eligible... Cleveland adds a defensive minded catcher with options to the 40 man, Morgan gets traded for BPA... etc...

Now Haskins is actually a guy they are likely to lose in the Rule 5 draft, on paper, since I don't think they are adding him to the 40 man because he didn't have a good year, hence why I am thinking he's expendable for them and we can get him... He serves as essentially Thomas' replacement in 26 and is a very strong fielder...

I just have a hunch JRod will end up on another roster come this November with DeLauter being so close...

Actually this is a legit question, when do players file for minor league free agency? I feel like a guy who knows they are being added to the 40 man roster would stay

If CLE is looking to move on from Rocchio, don't you think other teams know that his value is low/ non-existent?
JRod may well get moved, but he is still a bat in the minors that got a cup of coffee in the majors before CLE moved onto other options.
I like Enright, but he has had issues remaining healthy/ available the last few seasons so there is not much value at this point.

IIRC those eligible Minor league players are FA when the World Series ends.
Teams are able to talk with their own guys before that point but not those on other teams.
The teams can add players to the 40 man up to a point in November but if a player is a FA, they have to get signed 1st.

That's the thing, his value isn't actually that low... People forget he's still very young and still has room to grow as a player, he just doesn't fit what I believe we need from a SS...

I wouldn't be surprised though if one of Rocchio or Arias were gone to start next season... I prefer Arias because his HR potential is way greater...

I feel like we have to acquire who we need via trade since free agency doesn't look good in general... We have a group of SPs from the 21 draft, who all have solid MiLB numbers and are badly underrated...

The question is, how do we make that last upgrade? I feel like we gotta get a middle of the order bat... We need more than just talent, we need proven talent... Do we try to get Adames? Santander?

Uhhh Morgan has a 2.25 ERA and a FIP to match. I'm not suggesting they would be interested in the trade, but Eli is worth more than Haskins at this point.

There's only one, maybe 2 things I'm shopping for prior to the start of the 25 season and that is SP and a SS.

Rocchio cannot be the longterm solution at SS if they want to put the best team possible on the field.

It will be interesting to see what happens. Aleman and Walters are both ready. Stephan and Hentges will be back too so the BP will be absolutely loaded again and maybe even better than this year's BP.

Edited to add that there is wildcard in the mix here and his name is Espino. What a BP arm he would be should he ever get and stay healthy.

I think that SS contingency plan should be Giminez and leave 2B open for Brito, Schnee, Angel, Bazzana. Overall I think our position player setup is fine. I would pump all resources into SP at this point.

I don't disagree with you Derek, but I find it difficult to believe that they'll take Gimenez off the postion that makes him the best defensive player in MLB.

I think Bazzana is destined for the OF, and that's probably true for all those guys you listed so they'll need to earn their way and keep it.
