Yes we can.. against LHP's.. all day.. every day..

The Guardians have NO ONE that can hit at a .900 OPS rate against LHP's..

So we are gonna trade for Mountcastle and platoon him?

Mountcastle is a 1B/DH only.

In his career, he has played 41 games in LF....and it didn't go well.. We have a LF. Mountcastle has never played RF.

For those that think he would fit this team, a few questions...

1) With Santana getting paid $12 mil, how many games does Mountcastle get at 1B vs lefties?

2) With Noel needing at bats, possibly JRod, and Fry returning by July, how many games does Mountcastle get at DH vs lefties? Don't forget that JRam is gonna get 30-35 starts at DH. (The org would be remiss if Manzardo didn't get at least a look against lefties.)

If the FO was truly interested in a part time corner platoon bat, they could do it for a lot less than $6+ mil plus Messick plus another SP prospect.

Mark Canha's best offer is an NRI with the Mets. He doesn't require two SP prospects, nor $6+ mil....and he at least stand in RF. He isnt as good as Mountcastle, but the difference isn't close to meeting the cost.

What the FO would be interested in is a contract they could afford to eat, once Fry returns.

I think you're pretty close to spot on here CATS. Now, had they not signed Santana then Mountcastle would have been a good option IMO. I made mention of dealing with the O's awhile back, but I was more interested in Mayo than Mountcastle. I think I made mention that they would probably prefer to deal Mountcastle over Mayo to my dismay.

If they intend to "platoon" Manzardo I would expect Noel to get those AB. Your mention of Fry returning adds another 1B to the mix. Either way, I expect them to do everything within their power to not designate Manzardo as a platoon bat. To make a long story short, I don't think they have any interest in acquiring another bat for 1B. I didn't even mention that Kayfus could make a run at it later in the season.

Again, I don't think they're looking to add anything at all right now. If a RFer falls in their lap then maybe, but even then they have some kids to sort through.

A few thoughts...

1) Many of us are still talking about next year. Weve been talking about 'next year' since when? 2022? That kind of next year never comes.

2) If you read BTVs own analyses of the bigger trades made this off season, you will find that they admit many of them did not match their models...and many of the ones that they claim did were labeled as big overpays, or big underpays.

An example...

Gavin Lux 13.6 for

Mike Sirota 1.9
Comp A. 4.1

13.6 for 6 fits their model...lol.

In the words of Harry Doyle....just a little bit outside.

I looked at fifteen of the trades.

By their own admission, they missed on five. Another five they admitted were major under or over pays...which means they weren't accurate.

Four were considered minor misses, one of which was the Jays taking Straw (-9.3) and a PTBNL/cash for $3.75 mil and two million in bonus space (2.0). In no way was that close to an even trade.

One trade...ONE...was on the money, according to BTV.

Anybody who is paying for BTV is being bamboozled.
I don't visit the sight much anymore when they started charging for certain services. It does spark some interesting conversations though and it's nice to get other teams fans' perspective when it comes to trade talk. That's the most enjoyable part of that sight IMO.

Anyway, the "next year" talk is just the reality of this team. It's the youngest roster in MLB brother and it has a lot of young talent bubbling up to Columbus and Akron as well. The FO has mentioned "windows of opportunity" numerous times in the past which also probably adds to that talk. 2022 was 3 short years ago and do you realize how long the typical MLB rebuild takes? I think part of the problem you're having is the fact that this team's mediocrity was a bit camoflouged by the pathetically weak AL Central. That is no longer the case as all of Detroit, KC and Minnesota will look to be legitimate contenders for the division.

More about this roster. It needs to have some of the higher ceiling guys establish themselves or we'll be waiting a lot longer to be competitive in the postseason. Yes, most of those guys have a higher risk of failure, but that's the chance they have to take IMO since they cannot play in the FA market. That's why I'm all about trading guys with value that are nearing FA. What other options are there to build a championship caliber team? You're probably going to respond by suggesting they trade some of their best prospects for upgrades, but they just don't do that unless/until they firmly believe they have a shot at winning a WS. IMO, we're not close to that at this time so I'd be looking to capitalize on guys like Kwan and Clase. That's why I wanted to deal Lindor and Kluber a year before they did. They're either interested in the extension offer or their value needs to be used to acquire young, affordable, controlled talent. If they could collect the type of near ready, young talent that will load this team up then I'm willing to take the chance on youth and show some patience. I'm not saying my way is the right way here, only that if I controlled things that's how I'd look to operate. My opinion has been formed by how this organization operates and the financial constraints it lives with.

Small sample at the ML level, but Big Christmas had an OPS of .968 against LHP. He's also a much better 1B than RFer if that's worth any consideration.

I can't merit trading for a 1B like Mountcastle and run him as a platoon when we have Noel, Arias and Brito with experience at 1B on the roster already with Santana and Manzardo... (I wouldn't be surprised to see Schneeman get some 1B reps too).

If it weren't for the Santana signing then he would make sense, but they actually signed Santana so......

I don't look for Schneeman to be in Cleveland long if at all.

Arias will either be the SS, RFer or utility.

Unless Brito hits like a 1B he's a difficult match until LF is available IMO. I like the hitter he is, but the rest of his game isn't very good.

Schneeman has gotten written off every single year now for years, but he wasn't actually all that bad for us last season... But he's got 3 option years and can play a bunch of positions so he's pretty much got his role...

Brito hit 21 HRs last season and he wouldn't normally play 1B but would just be a fill in there against LHs type of thing...

Anyone want to see about Yoan Moncada in camp? Especially if we can wait til after Fry can be put on the 60 day IL or do we wanna stay with on house for 2B?
Hell no. Moncada comes across as the polar opposite of the culture we want here.

Just to stir up some trouble cause I am bored...

MIF Basabe from the Rays, OF Zach DeLoach of the White Soxs and OF Cade Marlowe of Seattle just all got DFA'D... Should we have any interest?
