25 GM OffSeason Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
We sincerely have a very small group of MiLB free agents... I could see us easily trying to get all of them back into camp next season

When it comes to the rule 5 though... position players... What Halpin is the only one I would think about protecting, anyone else, Pries, Tolentino, etc I don't think we need to protect...

Pitching group... We have a strong group... I know the teams like the White Soxs are likely gearing up to snag someone we don't protect...

Almost all the non - 40 man pitchers between AAA and AA are Rule 5 eligible...

@Gson @MadThinker88 as well...

Let's say we are protecting 5 at max, which 5 you choosing?

Nikhazy, Webb, Aleman - locks
Dion - most likely
Enright/Davenport/Burns - wild card

Remember that a team like Chicago can pick from 28 other teams. Beyond these 6 pitchers, are there others who can become top 30-40 in another organization (key metric in last year's draft -- more supply than demand)? And, if we lose a Burns, is the world going to end? I only added him due to his potential in relief (FB velo and draft history) that attracts attention but he has no meaningful role here. If there are 5-6 boarder line relievers in Burns, Abeny, Mikolajchak, Sharpe, Leftwich, Hanner, etc., there is a point where you group them together and assume you will lose 1 and move on. That spot is easily filled by an NRI or PTBNL/cash type trade.

The Hanner promotion today (him only) is a look at what FO may do. He is the only one of that AA grouping that FO sees worthy after Burns/Enright (even over a starter like Davenport who came in as relief to Messick).

I doubt Halpin is rostered/taken as other higher ranked (closer) guys from last year (your Haskins) wasn't taken.

I am also curious if Davenport is at his innings limit as well... he's at 142 innings via Baseball reference and that's up from the 110 area the last two seasons... My guess is they were gonna push him in the AA playoffs but not move him up for the AAA playoffs

I do believe Aleman, Nikhazy, Webb and Dion will be protected... No reason to not consider Enright if we keep 5...

I personally wouldn't be surprised if we keep an open 40 man spot for a catcher and/or lefty reliever in the rule 5 draft (Aka trying to find a left handed Stephan in a sense).

As far as Rule V guys being protected.. none of them.. None of these guys represent a huge loss if they becomes someone else's development insufficiency...

Someone on BTV was like, IF the Nationals sign Soto they are gonna try to get Clase and they put up a ridiculous (like normal) trade idea, (It was Cj Abrams plus two low prospects, i told her off about that one for sure) so I was bored and countered with this one...

Cleveland gets
SP Jake Irvin
SP Travis Sykora
RP Zach Brzykcy
C Drew Millas
DH/RF Brent Rooker

Nationals get
RP Emmanuel Clase

A's get
3B Brady House
1B/RF Jhonkensy Noel

I wouldn't do it personally, but at least it has some sense to it... Irvin gets added to Williams, Bibee as guys with years of control... Rooker sits behind Naylor in the lineup... Millas is the long term partner for Bo and is a switch hitter... Sykora had a monster 24 season so is a rising star and Brzykcy is the guy who comes right in to the bullpen...

Gaddis/Smith moves into the closer role... Everyone else moves up...

I wouldn't do it, but if Clase does get moved, a deal like this hits just about every box...

Now for the A's, Grover (Aka the active BTV knowledgeable A's fan) said they badly need a 3B and House is a legit 3B prospect... Then add in Noel, who essentially goes straight into Rooker's role...

Since Noel is out of options... Rooker and Noel together makes little sense... JRod is kept (who I was originally gonna trade) since he has options...

No ...

This deal would not provide "guys we need"

It would provide a solid young starter... A middle of the order bat, someone to pair with Naylor, a replacement RP arm and a solid SP prospect... Did you see Sykora's MiLB numbers?

Have you seen Tugboat Wilkinson's numbers as an SP prospect??.. and you think MiLB numbers are what defines an SP prospect?

The best closer in the business for a corner OF'er.. that's what this deal is.. so it's NOT guys we need...

Lets look at SS.

Rocchio may be a GG finalist. That has lots of value, plus he is very young, and pre arby.

The only other option is to move Gimenez to short, but that requires a sure fire productive 2B. The problem is that we dont have one. Brito is defensively challenged, and moving a GG 2B to short and eliminating a future GG finalist to make room for a defensively challenged 2B would hurt us more than help.

Arias is out of options. The FO won't roll the dice on the SS position on somebody who may not be here by June.

Rocchio is the SS, at least until Bazzana kicks in the door, which won't be until the deadline, at the earliest.
Everyone here knows Rocchio is not worth of a GG, or at least they should know. It's an absurd idea.

That is not the only other option.

I don't believe for one second that Rocchio is this team's future SS. They should expect better and I doubt the SS battle is close to being over.

Genao and Bazzana are the keystone combo in 2026. They should be pretty solid.
To me, Rocchio is a solid placeholder at SS until then.

Gimenez signed a long term deal... He's one of the MIF come 26...

some arbitration projections...

edit: ..................Guardians (9) Projected......................Current.........................Increase

  • Josh Naylor (5.127): $12MM.......................$6.5 MM.........................$5.5 MM
  • Lane Thomas (5.014): $8.3MM...................$1.845MM......................$6.455 MM
  • James Karinchak (4.099): $1.9MM............$1.9 MM.........................$0.00 MM
  • Triston McKenzie (4.002): $2.4MM...........$1.6 MM.........................$0.80 MM
  • Sam Hentges (3.157): $1.4MM....................$1.162 MM...................$0.238 MM
  • Nick Sandlin (3.157): $1.6MM.....................$1.075 MM....................$0.525 MM
  • Eli Morgan (3.091): $1MM............................$0.662 MM....................$0.338 MM
  • Steven Kwan (3.000): $4.3MM....................$0.758 MM....................$3.542 MM
  • Ben Lively (2.133): $3.2MM..........................$0.75 MM......................$2.45 MM
So, a total of $19.5 MM in arbitration raises across the board (assuming the projections are correct)..The vast majority of the increase (~90 %) is covered by less than half the arbitration eligible players. Each of these four guys are well worth the salary projected.. There should be very little problem arriving at settlements with each and every player.. That is.. there is very little likelihood a nasty arbitration hearing will be needed for this young and "together" group..

Thoughts?
