Do Not Sell My Personal Information
You would be surprised how much that possibly could hurt actually signing an extension from a PR stand point. That being stated, only someone who has actually been around a clubhouse could truly say if it would or not... I just believe it would, so I'd rather not move Gimenez...

Now, I could see a Gimenez move to SS or something but I really doubt they would even entertain the idea of trading him especially with his value being so low right now...
A major part in Gimenez's value lies in the security and cost of his extension. It's a selling point, not a roadblock to a deal.

Your make believe ideal that they can't/won't deal him because it would look bad doesn't make sense. The security of the deal is what is appealing to players regardless of who is paying it. If being traded at some point was unspeakable to Gimenez the there would either be a no-trade clause or he would have refused the deal.

I’m not worried about a Josh Naylor extension I will try to sign him to a Cleveland friendly contract, and if he don’t sign I’m not trading him, unless were totally out of the playoffs race next year, I’m going to assume we’re going to get the best version of him next year knowing he going for a payday, and I will just offer him the QO and receive a draft pick compensation……

The problem is that Manzardo looked like he graduated at the end of the year, Noel hasn't failed yet, and Fry is more than capable. That's 3 guys who make Josh expendable. I would be more inclined to play out the string with Josh if he was some kind of invaluable guy, but if another team offers something useful I think the team needs to seriously consider it.

With Gimenez and Rocchio we have the best defensive double play combo in baseball. Thats worth a lot in terms of wins and losses, even if they don't hit.

But Gimenez will have to hit much better, if Clevelands gonna pay him $16 mil in 2026, and be Lindoresque to be here in 2027.

The draft pick compensation does two things..

1. Adds either a 35-38 level pick to the draft pool (money $ 2.7 MM for a $ 50MM contract signed elsewhere to less)
2. Adds a player that should be of some value..

FWIW, the better use of the "return" would be as a return player in trade. CleFO has done exceptionally well with this kind of approach to guys a.) not wanting to sign an extension & b.) having several lower priced & capable options to fill the need of the soon to be departing player.

In Josh's case.. we'd love to see him return.. but.. the Guardians do have several replacement candidates that could step in... None are Josh, but, the club has always fashioned themselves a fiscally sane franchise..

Thoughts?

To me it all depends on what kind of year he having, if he having a career year, and we’re in first places, I’m not trading him , for prospects ………I’m not going to send our team that kind of message……..

In 2024, he's had a career year in homers and runs batted in.. he's improved his defense to the point where he no longer needs to be hidden.. It comes down to the salary demand.. If he's akin to Josey.. sign him.. One caveat.. no restrictive covenants to trades with his contract.. imho..

The only way i sign Josh this off-season to an extension is for a team friendly deal, looks to me like he's gained 10lbs or more just since the regular season. I think i'd rather trade him for whatever starting pitcher we can get.
I think Manzardo is ready to to take off at 1B if given the chance. I think we roll with Bo 1 more season and see what he can do, plus add a vet backup that isn't a guaranteed out. I think Schneeman, Brennan and Freeman will be off the team and DeLauter, Martinez and Brito will be added.

It'll look something like this.
OF
Kwan, Thomas, Martinez/DeLauter

Inf
Jose, Rocchio, Gimenez, Manzardo, Bo,

DH/Utility
Fry, Brito, Noel,

They are not the best defensive double play combo in baseball and if they are then there is an issue across MLB. Rocchio weighs it down with his weak arm and poor transfers. Don't get me wrong, he plays a solid defense, but the double play combo of Arias and Gimenez was far superior. Problem with that is Arias could only hit air with his bat.

Gimenez absolutely needs to hit better because his current offensive production dwindles his value. If all defense and no offense was a winning combination we would have a team full of John Macs. Extroidinary defense plays win very few games over the course of a season. Not scoring enough runs will kill a team, especially in October.

Rockies are looking to unload some of their veterans....

Honestly... I am not seeing much in their veteran crew... Rodgers and McMahon aren't upgrades... Freeland and Senzatela aren't worth their value per season... Gomber and Quan aren't really that great... Bryant can't stay on the field and his contract is an albatross... Feltner is a super 2...

You think we should roll the dice on someone like German Marquez? He's supposed to be ready for a full off season and he was always better away from Coors...

@Gson @Tondo @CDAV45

The idea is we get Marquez plus cash for someone like Mace/Carver maybe someone lower?

Let's say Rockies pay 5 and Cleveland pays 5 since he's a free agent after this season...

Thoughts?

If it only took a Mace or Carver, I would think about it. But, when the going rate for Cobb was Bresnahan and Furman for a few starts while still injured (with the blister), it won't be that cheap for whole season. Yet, I don't think FO will look at anyone outside the organization to fill that last slot. They may try to resign Boyd, Bieber or Cobb (being the cheapest and most likely add with his relationship with Vogt). Yet, they will roll with their top 4 of Bibee, Williams, Lively and Cantillo with the hopes that one of McK or Allen figure it out this winter with Nikhazy and Dion/Webb in AAA, ready for some fill-in injury replaccement roles to prove themselves. Again, if their moto this year was to see the rookies, it is going to continue at least till trade deadline again (to fill in holes for rest of playoff needs).

I also think that the only way Avila survives is that Curry long-man/opener role which isn't for sure anymore. Walters has proven himself enough to take a pen role in March. Aleman isn't far behind and Stephan is a mid-year spot (injury replacement) role.

For 8 slots, Clase, Gaddis, Smith, Herrin, Walters, Morgan, Sabrowski (yes I was wrong and he is good enough for 2nd Loogy role), Avila/Aleman with a trade of Sandlin/Avila in ST.

..other than consideration of roster impingement by this Rox.. this is a no brainer..

..that said.. when a deal like this is being offered, the resulting roster move should be considered as the next step & part of the deal.. So, adding Marquez, middle MOR/BOR would make moving ________________________ to the __________________ as the next step.. It's that or having a player subjected to waivers..

I mean Cobb took two Prospects that were essentially outside our top 30 prospects, so if we can get Marquez plus cash for a full season gamble on Marquez, it does make some sense...

I also have TMac in the 4th spot... He's out of options and with how they handled Florial, they will likely give him the 4th spot to start the season... While giving everyone else in camp the competition for that last spot...

Bieber (if resigned) Stephan, Hentges and possibly Valera, will start the season on the 60 day IL...

I really think guys like Morgan and Sandlin are on the trading block if we add Aleman... I wouldn't even be surprised if they are dealt before the Nov roster set deadline...

Vogt has publicly stated he wants a true long man... Avila will be stretched out in spring, but likely kept in that long man role...

I have been wanting other guys like Feltner, Toglia or Doyle, but those guys aren't exactly people the Rockies want to move... Getting them from them may be a big question mark...

Agreed,.. feltner, toglia, & doyle aren't going anywhere... Romo, Dollander, Palmquist and Karros as well..

edit: btw... my # 1 target with the Rox has and remains Cole Carrigg...I liked him during the draft and now that's he's been a pro for a full season.. A season that saw him excel at SS, CF and behind the plate..

Marquez, is someone I think the Rockies could move to save cap... Question is, at what price and is that arm healed?
