Sir'Dominic Pointer - A Cleveland Cavalier

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I actually do! I press cold, fried chicken (schnitzel) in from the night before with a couple of slices of cheese - once it's ready I lather it with mayo - delectable!

Although a few weeks back I went to retrieve the mayo from the fridge to complete my toasted cheese masterpiece, only to see that we only had low-fat mayo available. You could just imagine my displeasure...

Australia is known for allot of fantastic things, but food is not one of them.

DO you also enjoy Vegimite?

I'd have to disagree on the first - Melbourne has some of the most diverse, multi-cultural delicacies on the planet from Italian to Greek to every Asian you could think of. Home-grown stuff? That's another story.

And yes, Vegemite is nice when it's not lathered and spread everywhere on toast as if it were peanut butter. You're only meant to put the tinniest amount - that's where most people go wrong. Anything more and it tastes like filth.

Yeah, Americans (such as me) make this mistake all the time. A little goes a long way. If you like meat, Australians prepare great steaks and all the lamb you could ever want. Beer is pretty great down there too...I've had nothing but good times in Sydney, Adelaide, and especially Melbourne. Brisbane is a different story, haha, though it is very beautiful there. Never made it across to Perth. Hope to one day.

I kinda assumed from the start that they would try to go the draft and stash route with him, but I wasn't sure if he would accept it. Definitely shows that this kid has a high level of maturity.

Edit: Does anyone know if there is a limit to what you can sign a d-league player to? I'm just wondering if we will give him some extra cash to make him willing to do this or gave him any sort of promise like OKC did with their first rounder last year.

I'm just happy that we'll keep his rights instead of having to sign him to a non-guaranteed deal and then make him a preferred cut at the end of camp.

D-League has three tiers: $13,000, $19,000 or $25,000. Players also get a stipend that varies from $30 for $40 a day for meals & travel. They can get bonuses of up to $3000 if they win D-league All star awards.

Teams have a salary cap of about $175,000.

Pretty much if you add up the entire D-league pay role for the full 2015-16 season, it's less than Kobe gets per game.

The SDP to Canton Charge story is a little surprising. Perhaps more details will come out. If it's correct, SDP is giving up a $500,000 salary for a less than $50,000 salary

Yeah, there has to be some sort of agreement for him to do this because I would think he could have landed a gig in Europe that would have paid him more as well.

It's definitely nice for us though to have him develop in our system under the watch of our coaches at such a cheap price.

There must be something in place to compensate him. I get that to make it even all the guys are on the same when they are in the d league, but if his contract gets a partial garuantee does that mean he still gets that money? I'm assuming for every game he's called up he gets his cut ( they are essentially paid per game right?)

What Haynes is saying that we aren't even offering him a contract on the NBA level. We just happen to have convinced him to play for our D-league team.

If we wanted to bring him to the NBA level at some point we would have to sign him to an NBA contract, which means that if we waive him afterwards we would lose his NBA rights. With the deal in place we will keep his rights because we aren't signing him to a rookie deal, but can keep an eye on his development through the coaches we have put in place in Canton. But he most likely won't be coming and going like Joe Harris did and won't be practicing with our NBA guys. According to Haynes he will simply be a d-league player.

Another possibility is that he could be signed to a 10-day contract (or two of them) during the season. I think he would make nearly the amount on a ten-day NBA contract as he would make in the D-League for the whole year.

The whole thing is unexpected.

The NBA really expects the D league to become a legit minor league when that is all they are paying?

But then they would lose his rights, correct?

I mean I assume from the Cavs' perspective their desire is to have their cake and eat it too, in that they can keep his NBA rights, keep him off the roster, avoid paying him this year given our extreme situation already, and get to have him developed by our coaches.

Why the hell Pointer would do that is beyond me, but my only guess is that they promised to pay him above the minimum salary for next year (although there is no way they could legally "agree" to that, however their reputation with agents around the league would go to shit if they backed out).
