Sir'Dominic Pointer - A Cleveland Cavalier

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
crazy that he is still floating around with us in some degree and has never played an NBA game, is he a family friend of Gilbert or something

Probably helps us maintain his g league rights.

There is this: https://gleague.nba.com/faq/ -- Teams can tab up to 4 training camp waivers as "affiliate players"

But two things--
1) usually teams keep the player on the roster through training camp.
2) https://gleague.nba.com/nba-draft-rights-players/ - The “draft rights player” rule allows NBA G League teams to directly acquire players on their NBA parent club’s draft list, bypassing the usual NBA G League player selection processes, including the NBA G League Draft and the in-season waiver wire.

So it's confusing to me.

Maybe this was more like Phil Dawson's situation and they just wanted to let him retire as a Cavalier?

My guess is the Cavs know they want him on the Canton Charge but know that they don't want him for the 15th roster spot or a two-way spot. I personally don't think we will fill the 15th roster spot because it gives Koby roster flexibility for trades. Add that to the new staff and having alot of rookies, Pointer probably just didn't make sense to work with during training camp.

Maybe they want to stash Pointer so they can call him up in the second half of the season if they get rid of TT, Henson, Delly, Knight, and Clarkson.

That last point makes a lot of sense.

Still, it's been years. Surely they know they really don't want him now

Happy for him the one thing the cavs have had since Gilbert has own the team is taking care of there players I was hoping he would get called up.

I know Sir Dom is basically a meme around here at this point, but I am happy as hell for him to finally get his shot. If he even has a remotely memorable game that shit will be a lifetime movie.

maybe if Lavine is out we can blow out the bulls and let Sir'Dom get some garbage time mins
