#6: Barkevious Mingo, DE/OLB, LSU

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I actually like the pick a lot. I was extremely happy they didn't trade down.

Always thought it was hilarious that wrestlers in the 70's and 80's were always in the out of shape in shape guys. They all seemed to go for bulk over actual muscle.

Out of all of the talk about Mingo busting, and why he won't succeed and was a bad pick (which I don't agree with), the thing I find MOST ridiculous are these "goals" that people on other forums and Twitter and the likes are setting for Mingo in order for him to be considered a good draft pick. Things like "well if he doesn't get ten sacks in his rookie year then what's the point?" and "he needs to AT LEAST lead all of the rookies in sacks otherwise why in the hell did we pick him?" I find that people who don't know much about football are attaching visible goals and award projections to Mingo to help them determine after the season if he was a good pick or not, which is just silly to me.

That being said, I decided to have a little bit of fun with the ridiculousness, and have thus created a MINGO board. Similar to BINGO, but with a pun based name. Now we can ALL see if the Browns "won" this draft or not on our very own board!

Just keep in mind that most of these things are actual goals and expectations I've heard being thrown around to determine how good of a pick Mingo was based off just his rookie season. But I did have to add a few in to make for a complete board.

I don't hate the Mingo selection but I don't quite love it either. I thought Milliner was a slam dunk just based on the gap between Sheard and Mingo being a lot smaller than the gap between Milliner and Skrine.

There are some exceptions, but drafting should be on best player available, while trades and FA should be more on need/plug-and-play.

Bumping this thread because Mingo had his best pass rushing day of the season yesterday.

3 QB hurries in 11 rushing chances, forcing Ben into the pocket twice to get sacked.

Hope to see more of that in the near future, still played just 28 snaps.

Thanks for posting this. I didn't hear his name called yesterday except for a tackle on a running play. Didn't notice him on the pass rush but glad to hear he had an impact. I still think we need to get some pass rushers in the draft.

Seems like he's hurt a bit more than the team is letting on, no? Hopefully he'll start rushing the passer more as he gets all the way back.

His presence was definitely felt vs the Steelers, going by the eye test. Nice to see the stats back that up.

I hope to see more going forward. We need him to contribute.

on if he'd pick Mingo again in the top 10

If you don't follow Joe Banner on twitter, you are doing it wrong.

Mingo still only has one sack this season, but his pass rushing has been amongst the best in the league:

Jabaal Sheard is out for the forseeable future, his snap count is about to get higher. He ranked 36th in PRP.

It doesn't lessen the disappointment of letting the game slip away, but I thought Mingo deserved a bump for making an impact today throughout the game. It needs to happen more...
