Gonna spice things up with a vs. series.

Yes, we all know the shit is fake, but play along based on known attributes. And all wrestlers at their peak.

Who is better:

Macho Man or Lex Luger?

Macho Man.

And if you're taking into account stuff outside of ring? Macho Man by a million.

Luger had a really bad early run in WWF. He went there and they called him like Narcissist or something and it was a pretty bad gimmick. Even the great Bobby Heenan couldn't get him over.

I've got one: I always favored mid-card guys. And two of my favorites who had staying power were The Godfather and Meng aka Hafu (though I enjoyed the Meng character better in WCW). Who ya got?

Yeah, Luger may have gotten pushed by WCW but he kind of sucked. He was just a bundle of steroids who had a lame finisher with a cool name. Mediocre worker, couldn't talk...all he had was his look.

Pretty much.

But they were both nailing Miss Elizabeth.

Anyway, see! Discussion.

Of the mid-card guys, my personal favorites were not necessarily great, but I loved Repo Man for some reason. And the Mountie. British Bulldog when he was sober.

Also that upper mid-card, sometimes top card, guys like Mr. Perfect and Ted DiBiase. Mike Rotunda sometimes in that field though he was moving up and down cards like crazy in that 1988-1995 period depending on the gimmick. He is probably the greatest, most technically able wrestler who never quite became a top guy. He was badly served by both WWF and WCW who couldn't simply settle on a gimmick or concept. I think he would have been a bigger name if he had been 10 years younger because the WWE era without job gimmicks, and simple real name ace wrestlers, fit him more.

Also Barry Windham was in that category, a guy with all the talent and look in the world, but squandered it by being lazy.

He had it all. Could have been the next big thing in the WWF. Rare is the combination of the prototypical Vince McMahon size at 6-6 and blonde. Great speed and agility for his size. And technically superb with a pedigree second to none.

He could have been the guy right after Hogan.

But he left just as the WWF was really cooking.

Rotunda, his brother-in-law, explains that they both made a huge mistake, which he chalks up to being young and dumb, but Barry in particular didn't want to put in the work to be the top guy. While he could have been the next big thing, and the champ and face of the WWF, he just didn't want to work that type of schedule.

I just cannot stand Luger, especially with what he did to Ms Elisabeth when she OD'd. He killed that poor sweet woman.

To be fair, Macho probably drove her to drugs, but Lex absolutely killed her. He deserves to be in a wheel chair.

It really is a toxic life.

So many ODs, and other early deaths.

Ted DiBiase talks about it a lot, how he ostensibly retired due to a back injury, but more because the lifestyle was destroying him and his marriage.

1. Monsoon and Ventura

2. Ventura and Shiavone

3. Ross and Lawler during the Rock and Stone Cold era.

Those are my top 3 WWF announcer teams

No argument at all with putting Jesse the Body in the number one and number two spots.

Ventura was the best, but I used to love when Bobby The Brain guest commentated on some of the old WCW shows. My screen even name comes from an insult he once directed at Kendall Windham.

Agreed.

Heenan was an all-time great.

His commentary helped make the 1992 Royal Rumble what it was.

He was great with Monsoon. And with McMahon.

"WILL YOU STOP!"

Also, Mr. Perfect was also a surprisingly good commentator in those years he was injured. He doesn't get as much credit for his mic skills. He was, as usual, perfect.

And Heenan was a great actor. His discomfort during IRS' debut during that weird WWF talk show they had in the early 90s, because he paid all of $234 in taxes off $300K in earnings, is hilarious.

Macho Man. I think the only person who was a Lex Luger fan was Lex Luger. Macho Man was much quicker and higher flying.

Yeah it isn't really a comparison.

How about this:

Sting vs. Macho Man?

Also, one guy that really had bad luck, and was even told by McMahon "You have the worst luck of any human being I have ever met!" is Jake Roberts.

He should have had a run of some sort, and was scheduled for a run at the WWF title against the Ultimate Warrior who was fired before it began.

And he was supposed to have the IC title, but the Honky Tonk Man* refused to give it up.

*That guy was awful. Terrible. Overrated.

Was surfing old wrestling videos tonight. Found some interesting ones:

1) Mike Rotunda vs. Rick Steiner at Starcade '88 for the TV Title.

Look at the pop when Rick Steiner wins the TV Title in the denouement of the Varsity Club.

@The Human Q-Tip

2) Mike Rotunda in a tag-team with Curt Hennig. Now that is a team. Rotunda teamed up with some of the best in his career, winning six tag-titles between 1985-1994. Teammates of: Windham, Spivey, Hennig, Dr. Death, Rick Steiner, Ted DiBiase and Bam Bam Bigelow before going on the downturn in his career in 1996.

Rotunda and Hennig are probably my two favorites all time.

Here's a channel I like to put on in the background or watch when I have some spare time.

The name of the channel is 'Wrestling With Wregret'. He puts out a lot of content and talks alot about current WWE/AEW/NXT whatever. But he also reviews 'classic' PPVs alot. Some of the classics are recent (10ish years ago), but also does some 80s and a bunch if 90s stuff.

Lugar always talked about how smart he was because of his college degree, yet he was one of the most inarticulate guys out there. Horrible, horrible promos.

Both of those guys were great, and actually knew how to wrestle. Kind of sad to see that clip with the "WWE" label, because Starrcade was an NWA/WCW event until WWF/WWE bought them out in 2001.

I was always more a fan of NWA/WCS than WWF/WWE. Just thought that in the late 80's in particular, they just had a fantastic stable. Flair in his prime, The Four Horseman, the Road Warriors, the Steiners, Sting, Heenan.... Also loved Jim Crockett as the preppy bad guy with that ridiculous tennis racket.
