A 10 Team College Football Playoff Proposal

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
No playoff system is ever going to get the 10 best teams, or whatever number it may be. That's not the point of the playoff though. The point is to end up with the best team as the national champion.

I believe the OP's idea would do just that.

So a couple years ago, Alabama was #2 and LSU was #1 and Bama won the title. In OP's scenario that Alabama team wouldn't be in the playoff and a MAC team would? Thats a joke.

The solution is simple. Win your conference. If you're not good enough to win your conference, then how can you be considered the best team in the nation?

So you don't think Alabama was the best team in 2012? In this scenario, OOC games literally mean nothing, correct? How much would everyone love it if the NFL suddenly said, hey we're only going to send the teams with the best record in division games into the playoffs? What if a 1 loss SEC or PAC 12 team losses the conference smashes the eventual MAC champion in a non conference game? That means nothing to you? This scenario is never going to happen.

If sgm has a problem with mid majors not getting a shot a championships, it seems like he just has a problem with college football in general. Because college football isn't and never has been a place where the little guy can compete with the big powers.

Means nothing to me. Win your conference.

Thats pretty fucking stupid. Thankfully, this is never going to happen.

Always nice to converse with someone who resorts to calling a differing idea "pretty fucking stupid."

Oh well, guess that's why you're on my ignore list. My fault for trying to engage in a discussion.

I mean you ignored half the points I made in that post, because your argument is terrible. You're choosing to say a third of the schedule means absolutely nothing to you, because... Well you didn't really explain why

Winston sucks. He'll be a bust. I wouldn't want him.

My thoughts exactly. If you aren't the best team in your conference how can you be considered the best team in the nation?

Hence the proposal for change...

And the 2006 and 2009 Boise State teams disagree heavily with your last sentence.

But, as you said, you don't give a damn about mid-majors, so you're not going to find much importance in mid-majors getting a shot or what mid-major fans would like to see. It's cool - you're entitled to that - there's just not much of a point in the two of us debating this further.

Like I said, there is no compromise to this. If we have a 10 team playoff, there will be a handful of teams mad. If we have a 16 team playoff, a handful of teams will still be mad.

I already said there should be an exception for the rare cases like Boise and Utah. That exception is the same as the BCS, so any mid major who went to a BCS bowl, would have gone to the playoff if that was in place.

And I'm saying you just must not really like college football in general. Because it isn't the bowl system or the new playoff system that is keeping mid majors out of the championship game. Its just money, boosters, tv deals, ect... Mid majors simply cannot compete with the best programs 99% of the time. So if you can't accept that and enjoy MAC football for what it is, then college football just might not be for you.

I understand your point honestly, I just don't see any "fair" way to go about determining the other Wild Card teams without there being a ton of controversy.
