Perhaps an awful band name one day.

anyway, he is the largest news subject of sports talk right now. At some point he needs to publicly address it right? Should he be more direct about what his position is? Is he entitled to handle it this way?

or does this all just blow over, he plays for them in 21 and he’s just the elite guy he’s always been?

PRE-6/1 TRADE
2021 Dead Cap: $38,356,000
2021 Cap Savings: $-1,154,000

POST-6/1 TRADE
2021 Dead Cap: $21,152,000
2022 Dead Cap: $17,204,000
2021 Cap Savings: $16,050,000

Pretty unattractive options for the Pack.

He is the reigning MVP, its unattractive to move him even if money inst considered, lol

What do you mean? What needs to be clarified or publicly addressed? He's been pretty clear with his current stance.

If you're choosing not to accept his position, that's on you.

I'd say that after 16 years with the franchise, and him being at the doorstep of retirement, he is certainly able to voice his displeasure. Sounds like this has been understood for a long time, the Packers tried to treat him like a child, and now shit's public.

Hence why I went and got him WRs even giving up draft picks to do it in my mock draft. They haven't drafted a weapon for him in the draft in a long time honestly....

They draft Love when they are contenders and need to work on upgrading the roster not going to spend a valuable asset on an insurance policy... McCarty as my dad (who is a packers fan) felt he should have been fired years ago.

How can any journalist publish this crap and still be employed?
1) It got you to share it, so more clicks to the website, so... mission accomplished?
2) I'm not sure how much of a "journalist" or "employed" this guy is...

Apparently this was something being discussed on ESPN today for some reason. So that kid didn't just make it up in his head (most likely).

It is ridiculous and the Browns would never do it because of long-term implications. It is a young roster and you are potentially mortgaging the next 12-15 years for the next 1-2 years.

With that said, Rodgers makes the Browns Super Bowl favorites this season. If they got him and he was even 85% as good as he was last year, it would take serious injuries for any team other than the Chiefs to beat them.

Eh.

I would trade Baker and a couple 1sts for Aaron Rodgers and not think twice about it. Cap will be tight, but adding the reigning MVP to this roster is worth it.
I’m not saying that I wouldn’t do it... I would. I just don’t think that the Browns would.

I'd probably trade Baker for Rodgers straight up, but there's no way in hell I'm tossing in first rounders on top of that. There are simply too many variables in an NFL season to go that much "all-in" for a season or two.

I'd be curious to know how often the preseason Super Bowl favorite actually ends up winning it.

I know everyone seems really focused on short vs long-term. I think the question is how long do you think Rodgers plays? With a better OL and a desire to still play, he could easily play another 5+ years. So is Baker at age 31 better than Rodgers at 42? I think if Rodgers remains healthy and wants to continue playing, isn’t there a good chance he’s still a better QB than Baker at that point?

Let’s not play ourselves here friends. Rodgers would turn this into the #1 offense in the league overnight. I like Baker, but people seem to be selling short on what Rodgers would actually do in this offense. He was the NFL MVP last year and the Browns on the whole have a better line, a better group of skill position players, and an offensive system tailor made for his skill set.

The real question is what does Rodgers have left in the tank? He will turn 38 in December. He’s generally been healthy throughout his career aside from two seasons. He just had the best year of his career and was the MVP. Three time MVP and Super Bowl champ. One thing to remember with Rodgers: while he’s been in the league for 16 years, he didn’t play until his 4th season in the league. This could mean that he would actually have way more left in the tank than most players around his age or younger.

For example (year drafted in parenthesis):

Rodgers (2005):
Age: 37
GP: 197
GS: 190

*7 GP were mop-up duty in first three seasons.

Stafford (2009):
Age: 33
GP: 165
GS: 1

Ryan (2008):
Age: 35
GP: 205
GS: 205

If we’re getting three years of Rodgers at Elite/MVP caliber level and two years of Pro-Bowl caliber football after that, sign me up. The Browns would have a legit shot to win the Super Bowl for the next several years with Rodgers. While we can project Baker to be a great QB, there’s obviously still a lot of unknowns.

IMO, trading for Rodgers also doesn’t mean much when it comes to long term implications. Baker’s salary goes up next year, and if he signed a new contract with the Browns he likely gets more than what Rodgers currently makes. Rodgers makes $37 mill in 21, $39 mill in 22, and $28 mill in 23. (His salary drops in a year cap is projected to jump). Then is a free agent in 2024 at 40.

All it means is that they’d need to work on grooming an eventual replacement. Assuming the cap goes up as projected, there’s likely little-to-no real roster impact.
