Aaron Rodgers vs Covid

That's why I'm not discussing what he meant by cancel culture or woke mob. I don't know and I don't care. My only, very limited point is what obligation he owes to people to whom he has no obligation to disclose his vaccination status. That's it.

If the NFL wants to blast him, I'm fine with that.
You don't think he owes truthfulness to the media that he speaks to, in person, regularly?

No -- not regarding a matter that the NFL has determined players do not have to disclose.

Look, I get that some people feel differently, and that's fine. I just don't get, in particular, the outrage around him using the terms "woke mob", etc.. It's just name calling, and not even directed at a particular person. So in the context of NFL discipline, etc., that is what the thread is supposed to be about...I just don't see it.

I just think the reaction over Rodgers calling people part of the "woke mob" is overblown. You're mad at him for not disclosing/lying about it, and he's mad that he's expected to be public about information that the NFL says should be private. I just don't get the righteous anger on either side.

I can only speak for myself and where my frustration comes from.

Him even mentioning being "cancelled" or "a victim of the woke mob" creates an instantaneous shield from the criticism he deserves the moment he says it. He now has countless people to buffer the criticism of him being an idiot who will agree that he is being cancelled and a victim. He's not a victim though, he's an idiot who did and said a bunch of dumb shit on a massive platform. Just came off as cheap cop out.

And I don't care one bit about knowing if he is vaccinated or not, that doesn't effect me or anyone else, that knowledge. Lying to the media? Not the first person whose done it, don't care.

But not being vaccinated and being around media members just doing their jobs while not following protocols? Not a good look. Lying and spewing anti-vax propaganda talking points on McAfee's pod seen and heard by millions? Potentially dangerous and reckless to other people. He deserves every ounce of criticism he gets.

The only people who will buy into that shield are the ones who already agreed with him anyway. And the ones who were angry at him will remain angry at him anyway.

Well, he's entitled to say what he wishes about the vaccine. And you're entitled to criticize him for what he says, and he's entitled to criticize his critics as a woke mob or whatever. And like I said, I think the battle lines on the issue were drawn regardless of his comment about woke mobs, etc. Anyway, the only reason I commented at all was someone saying they were furious over him using that language. That just seemed to me a very odd aspect of this to emphasize.

There is a massive difference here though. It's why I don't understand the criticism against people who are pissed for what he said/his justification for not getting vaccinated.

Me criticizing his dumb judgement hurts literally no one.

Him saying dumb shit to millions could potentially kill people. Unfortunately a lot of people look at athletes as "role models" and his voice carries weight.

The fact that we are okay with that, or have people arguing that what he did isn't that big of a deal and is his right to do, is ridiculous to me. And we've been doing this for over a year now, as 3 quarters of a million people are already dead.

Honestly, the "cancelled" and "woke mob" stuff isn't even what pisses me off. It's what he said and his reasoning for not getting the vaccine. It was nothing but BS, said to millions, by a person people view as a role model. Someone on the fence is going to hear it and that is going to be their justification for no longer getting vaccinated and put themselves at risk. Because of a fucking NFL quarterback who used his platform to spout BS.

I understand that he has no obligation to disclose. But when you're asked point blank and you intentionally deceive, I have a problem. Being around vaccinated people gives me a level of comfort to interact with them. If someone who I interacted with weekly intentionally deceived me about their vaccination status, I would be livid. I think Rodgers being criticized is wholly appropriate and I hope the NFL comes down on him hard.

Rodgers also said he was taking medical advice from Joe Rogan, the guy best known for calling UFC fights and hosting Fear Factor who is very much not a doctor.

Joe Rogan is the type of guy who reads the back cover of a book and then pretends he knows the entire story. He's conned millions of people into thinking he's smart. He has his expertise. MMA, DMT, pot, hunting. Pretty much nothing else.

Do people think Rogan is smart? The dude mentions he’s a moron on almost every episode I’ve listened to. He’s a good conversationalist who has interesting people on his show.

Saving everyone from themselves and locking this one up.

When the talk has moved from NFL implications to “woke mob”, “cancel culture”, and Joe Rogan, the thread has likely run it’s viable course in the Browns/NFL section.
