Interesting. Ianello is good friends with AD, which is why many think he was hired in the 1st place. After the embarrassing way they finished the season - well, the entire season was embarrassing - there was just too much pressure on UA to keep him.

I'm guessing he knew. As stated in my previous post, he and the AD are close friends. The call was most likely to let him know that the decision was being announced. Word around UA was that he was told that he wouldn't be returning early last week.

Thank God.

He was a joke and turned my alma mater into a joke. Fuck him and his worthless coaching ass.

I've heard from some people from Akron with strong ties to football in the area that Tressel recently met with UofA to discuss the HC position. I obviously can't verify this, but just stating rumors floating around Akron. Haven't heard anything beyond that a meeting did take place.

Even if a meeting did take place, I just don't see Tressel returning to college football so soon, if ever.

Rumor is TW was told to fire Rob or he could be fired with him. TW isn't completely in the clear yet either, there is traction to him being fired before the end of the year as well.

Footballscoop.com is reporting that they will aggressively pursue him.

I stand corrected, maybe he'll break back into the college scene with a lower tier team (no offense) and then try and get back into one of the top dog programs in the country. I just honestly didn't see him returning to college within a YEAR, if ever, but again, just because they are aggressively pursuing him doesn't necessarily mean he'll take the job either.

I would be shocked if he took the job at Akron, but I guess crazier things have happened. I've heard he wants to stay in Ohio and thus one of the reasons he's considering Akron, though again, take that with a grain of salt.

The thing is, it seems Ohio State really was the pinnacle for Tressel so it's hard to see where he goes from here. Maybe he would be content with turning around a smaller (and very bad) program for a while before figuring out what the next big step is.

Reports circulating Tressel was at the basketball game last night. Also that he was in the Tommy Evans Lounge on campus. Probably means nothing since he went to school here.
