Akron Zips Basketball 2011-2012

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Can't agree there...Akron takes the majority of the blame for not closing VCU out, but the referees certainly made an impact. The non-call on Abreu's three point attempt near the end of regulation especially was a game-changer. Even so, Akron still should have won the game had they taken care of the basketball.

I don't know, i'm always reluctant to blame the refs for anything, because there are always opportunities we missed that were there for the taking.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not blaming the referees. As I said, if the Zips take care of the basketball, they win regardless of the officiating. I'm just saying that the poor officiating did have an impact on the outcome, even though it wasn't the primary reason for the Zips' loss.

Poor officiating never has an impact on a basketball game if you do what you are supposed to do. I didn't see this game, but Akron has nobody but themselves to blame for not winning the game. Missed shots, turnovers, poor defense...those are to blame for a loss, not a referee. I read they were up big in the second half..blowing that lead isn't on the referee.

Poor officiating absolutely has an impact on the outcome of a basketball game. How can it not, especially in an overtime game? Again, I'm not saying the referees are to blame - it's always on the losing team in the end. But to say it didn't have an impact on the outcome of the game - especially when you admittedly didn't watch it - is just something I cannot agree with.

Because the basketball game is 40 minutes. How many shots did Akron miss, how many poor defensive stands, how many turn overs, how many missed free throws?

Officiating does not have an impact on the game. Your team's poor decision absolutely does.

We had a ton of problems breaking their press. Had atleast 4 turnovers directly related to that.

Under your premise, the terrible referees at the 1972 Olympics didn't impact the outcome of the Gold Medal game. No offense, but the idea that officiating doesn't impact the game is absurd.

Did it decide the Zips game? Absolutely not. Did it impact the game, and does it impact every single game? Absolutely.

They definitely did. That's the #1 thing they need to work on entering MAC play. Only having one PG that Dambrot is comfortable playing and that point guard being at about 75% health-wise is something that VCU (and now future opponents) are going to try to go after.

Nice bounce-back win for Akron today on the road against Marshall. Now that the Zips are finally at full strength, it will be interesting to see what they do in conference play.

Akron over Kent State in a MAC Final Rematch

Akron wins a tough one on the road against Miami, while OU drops it's opener to BG and Kent loses to Buffalo.

Nice win by the Zips tonight over OU. Also if anyone was at the game, i was the guy who did the shooting challenge during the first time out. Carry on.

Big win for Akron, who continues to roll in MAC play. The next three games will be tough - at Buffalo, at home against Kent, and back on the road against Ball State.

Zips lose at Buffalo for the 3rd straight season. Kent State, who got thrashed by OU last night, is up next.

The East is a meat grinder this year. Akron, Kent, Ohio, and UB are all quality teams and BG is right there too. Basically five of the six best teams in the conference are in the East.
