I have a hunch that G-State isn't thrilled with the perpetually tradeable Al Harrington, the power forward with a sweet stroke and head with bizarre striations on it. They also need rebounding very, very badly and require their bigs to be able to run the court. We happen to have an extra rebounder who runs the court, and badly need a big man who can really shoot to stretch the floor for LBJ; as the broadcasters correctly noted today, when LeBron gets the ball on the wing, the defense zones up and leaves the opposite corner wide open for a three for an opposing power forward, and with LeBron's size, wrist strength, and court vision, he can and does often fire an accurate skip pass to that corner for an open three. We've been watching Donyell Marshall brick that shot for almost three years now; Harrington shoots 44% on corner 3s, and shoots them often. (He's 41% from the left elbow, 47% on straight-away 3s, and 33% from the right elbow.) While he's settled into a bit of a 3-point specialist role, he's an effective slashing big as well; 27% of his shots come from inside, and he's at a .627 clip from there, which compliments his .510 mark from outside nicely. The one thing he doesn't love to do is shoot the midrange jumper, which our current bigs are far too enamored with.
His +/- is solid; he helps the Dubs 2.5 points per 100 on both offense and defense, although the defensive number isn't thrilling because the Warriors just made Chris Duhon look like Tiny Archibald. If a Bibby or Miller (who I admit I underrated by only thinking of him as a shooter-he's actually an extremely underrated finisher) swap doesn't work out, I think Al is a big upgrade over Drew for this team and would show immediate results; basically, he'd be the player Marshall was supposed to be. And the trade works with only Drew and Newble's expiring contract; we wouldn't have to get them to bite on Damon Jones, Eric Snow, or Donyell Marshall's contract.
