I have a hunch that G-State isn't thrilled with the perpetually tradeable Al Harrington, the power forward with a sweet stroke and head with bizarre striations on it. They also need rebounding very, very badly and require their bigs to be able to run the court. We happen to have an extra rebounder who runs the court, and badly need a big man who can really shoot to stretch the floor for LBJ; as the broadcasters correctly noted today, when LeBron gets the ball on the wing, the defense zones up and leaves the opposite corner wide open for a three for an opposing power forward, and with LeBron's size, wrist strength, and court vision, he can and does often fire an accurate skip pass to that corner for an open three. We've been watching Donyell Marshall brick that shot for almost three years now; Harrington shoots 44% on corner 3s, and shoots them often. (He's 41% from the left elbow, 47% on straight-away 3s, and 33% from the right elbow.) While he's settled into a bit of a 3-point specialist role, he's an effective slashing big as well; 27% of his shots come from inside, and he's at a .627 clip from there, which compliments his .510 mark from outside nicely. The one thing he doesn't love to do is shoot the midrange jumper, which our current bigs are far too enamored with.
His +/- is solid; he helps the Dubs 2.5 points per 100 on both offense and defense, although the defensive number isn't thrilling because the Warriors just made Chris Duhon look like Tiny Archibald. If a Bibby or Miller (who I admit I underrated by only thinking of him as a shooter-he's actually an extremely underrated finisher) swap doesn't work out, I think Al is a big upgrade over Drew for this team and would show immediate results; basically, he'd be the player Marshall was supposed to be. And the trade works with only Drew and Newble's expiring contract; we wouldn't have to get them to bite on Damon Jones, Eric Snow, or Donyell Marshall's contract.

No. All we need is a good (Bibby) or superstar (Kidd) PG. Even if we can't acquire them I still wouldn't like to get Al. If it's Al Jefferson then I'm in. ;)

I'd be hesitant because we'd probably be losing quite a bit of rebounding. Maybe though, if all other options are exhausted. His defense is also pretty lackluster IMO.

True

BUT we are talking about him replacing DREW GOODEN!!!!!!!

You know our starting 4 who is allergic to defense and anythign related to rotation

I think Al would give us another skill set to compliment guys like Z and AV...I would take Al as our outside scoring big man and give heavy mins to Z and Andy to cover the rebounding plus our SF rebounds at a high clip of 8 boards a night so its not like Bron cant help us out in that department

Only thing I dont like about Al is how he will just flat out disappear sometimes...he will be a killer one night and then no one on the other but again he is replacing Drew so its not like we arent used to that

So yes I take Al and I bet he averages 15-17pts and 6 boards a night with this squad

Why would GS trade Harrington, who fits perfectly in their scheme? He's their starting 4, he can get up and down the court, he can shoot the 3. Gooden is an awful fit in that system comparatively. Harrington has been pretty well received in GS so I see no reason why they'd want Gooden, a much worse fit, for him.

because they have no one who can score inside thats why

other than the big stiff whitey they have no one who they can throw down to on the block....Drew would actually be a good fit on thier squad

First of all, the big white stiff -- Biedrins -- is better than Drew Gooden. Period. The only thing Drew might do better is shoot a jumper, but Biedrins is better with his back to the basket on the block.

Second, if you have ever watched GS play, they do not run a typical half court offense. Their entire offense revolves around transition and 3pt shooting. Don Nelson has been quoted several times in the papers here that he will bench players for NOT shooting enough 3 pointers when they are open. Thus Harrington is really a perfect fit. They ALWAYS play small ball. They always run. They always shoot 3s. Harrington is about as good of a fit at the PF position on their team as you'll find, outside of guys like Shawn Marion. Biedrins plays the garbage man role of rebounding, defense and interior presence.

al harrington would be nice but i agree, there is no way this could happen. hah, and i think the only people that could fit their small ball/run&gun scheme would be lebron, sasha, or larry...obviously lebron's out of the question and just because pavlovic and hughes would fit, i doubt they'd be "upgrades" to their squad right now...

yes I have watched GS play and the reason they couldnt beat Utah in the playoffs last year is because they have no inside presence

When they are hot fro the outside they are near unstopable when they are cold they suck

They dont have anyone who they can dump the ball into to get some points when needed and thats why THEY ARENT CHAMPIONSHIP MATIERAL.....not saying Drew makes them that way but he provides an asset that they need

and if you think Biendrinis can score inside you are wrong het gets 10 points agame off of dunks and finishing nice dishes from B-Diddy

They're second to last in the league in Rebound Rate, so it's not too much of a stretch that they'd want a rebounder, and since Drew's pretty athletic and not really a back-to-basket guy he wouldn't be a horrendous fit in their system, although it would be a bit of a change in styles for them, but I get the feeling their sense is that he's underacheiving a little, and they haven't had trouble finding extra shooters, Matt Barnes is still there, plus they did just spend a lottery pick on a power forward, so I think Harrington is far from indispensible for them. To recap; G-State has too much shooting, not enough rebounding. We have too much rebounding, not enough shooting. Donyell Marshall got an extremely significant amount of burn last year essentially being a very poor man's version of Al Harrington, so it's not too much of a stretch that we'd want a player who can actually do what Hot Donald was supposed to do.

Anything but Mike Miller, Jason Kidd, Andra Miller, or Mike Bibby is unacceptable IMHO.
