All-Time Ind- Guardians RCF Fantasy Draft, Pt. II

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
With my 7th round selection, the Wailing Wahoos select... SHANE BIEBER, STARTING PITCHER.

U66CDXN5ARAAHHFRDLH5OY6WSM.JPG

Bieber had a dazzling COVID-shortened 2020 season with Cleveland, where he won the Pitching Triple Crown, Cy Young, and was fourth in MVP voting.

Since he only made twelve starts that season and then 16 starts the next year, in fairness and to avoid a very small sample size, I'll combine his 2020 and 2021 seasons for the Bieber that joins my squad.

Over those 28 starts, Bieber went 15-5 with a 2.48 ERA, 2.60 FIP, 1.05 WHIP, 13.2 K/9, 256 K in 174 IP.

@JDailey23 is on the clock.

With the last pick in the 7th round I select the 1959 version of Tito Francona (the original). On my team he will alternate at 1B and OF with Joe Carter.
  • In 1959 he batted .363 but missed out on the batting title due to minimum AB's.
  • .980 OPS 5.2 WAR
  • 5th in MVP voting

Tito Francona dies at age 84

Blyleven is a very underrated pick. I think he made it through our entire draft the first time around and @Derek snagged him from the remaining guys for his squad.

Here was my all-undrafted team (1980-2019)
SP
'84 Bert Blyleven, 7.2 bWAR
'82 Rick Sutcliffe, 5.7 bWAR
'00 Chuck Finley, 4.5 bWAR
'89 Bud Black, 4.0 bWAR
'82 Len Barker, 3.6 bWAR

RP
'19 Nick Wittgren, 1.0 bWAR
'14 Kyle Crockett, 1.1 bWAR
'11 Tony Sipp, 1.3 bWAR
'17 Tyler Olson, 1.3 bWAR
'17 Zach McAllister, 1.4 bWAR
'19 Tyler Clippard, 1.4 bWAR
'89 Jesse Orosco, 2.7 bWAR

STARTING LINEUP
1. '80 Jorge Orta, DH - .291/.379/.403 2.3 fWAR
2. '03 Milton Bradley, CF - .321/.421/.501 4.1 fWAR
3. '84 George Vukovich, RF - .304/.354/.439 3.9 fWAR
4. '04 Ben Broussard, 1B - .275/.370/.488 2.1 fWAR
5. '03 Jody Gerut, LF - .279/.336/.494 3.2 fWAR
6. '89 Jerry Browne, 2B - .299/.370/.390 3.8 fWAR
7. '01 Russell Branyan, 3B - .232/.316/.486 0.5 fWAR
8. '08 Kelly Shoppach, C - .261/.348/.517 3.0 fWAR
9. '86 Cory Snyder, SS - .272/.299/.500 1.1 fWAR

BENCH
'89 Felix Fermin, SS - 1.3 fWAR
Best defensive metrics by a SS not named Omar or Francisco. I will need him in late-game situations to replace Snyder.

'11 Jack Hannahan, 3B - 2.4 fWAR
Gret defensive 3B. He will be needed to replace Branyan late in games.

'16 Tyler Naquin, OF - 2.1 fWAR
Good pinch-hitting option, and capable defender.

NOTES
- Some guys had better seasons than the ones I used, but I wanted to stay true to the positions where I would be using them. For example, Branyan and Snyder both had better offensive seasons for the Indians, but they did not play 3B or SS in those seasons.

- I used bWAR for pitchers and fWAR for hitters because it is generally understood that those are the more accurate metrics for each. fWAR uses FIP which is more of a predictor of future performance than a measure of actual performance.

- This was tough with so many guys gone, and me hell-bent on not using anyone prior to 1980. I used quite a few one-season wonders.

I’ll pick when I get home from work. Absolutely swamped today.

It’s Miller Time. Give me Andrew Miller to anchor my bullpen again. Full write up later.

With my 8th pick I will take:

Ray Chapman, SS, 1917 version

The only player to have ever died due to injuries occurred during a major league game was on his way to a fringe Hall of Fame career when he tragically passed away. Highlighted by a 1917 season where he slashed .302/.370/.409 with 170 H, 98 R, 52 SB and a 131 OPS+ in a season worth 7.8 bWAR, boosted by Chapman's league best defensive metrics at SS.

Team so far:

Round 1: Nap Lajoie, 2B - 1910 version (.383/.444/.514 slash, 9.8 bWAR, 51 2B, 26 SB, 227 H)
Round 2: Shoeless Joe Jackson, OF - 1911 version (.408/.468/.590 slash, 9.2 bWAR, 45 2B, 41 SB, 233 H)
Round 3: Gaylord Perry, SP - 1972 version (342 IP, 24 W, 1.92 ERA, 10.8 bWAR, 7 CGSO, 0.978 WHIP)
Round 4: Grady Sizemore, OF - 2006 version (.290/.375/.533 slash, 6.7 bWAR, 53 2B, 11 3B, 28 HR, 22 SB, 134 R)
Round 5: Early Wynn, SP - 1956 version (277 IP, 20 W, 2.72 ERA, 7.8 bWAR, 18 CG, 154 ERA+)
Round 6: Mel Harder, SP - 1934 version (255 IP, 20 W, 2.61 ERA, 8.0 bWAR, 6 CGSO, 173 ERA+)
Round 7: Elmer Flick, OF - 1906 version (.311/.372/.441 slash, 6.5 bWAR, 195 H. 98 R, 39 SB)
Round 8: Ray Chapman, SS - 1917 version (.302/.370/.409 slash, 7.8 bWAR, 170 H, 98 R, 52 SB)

I am going to go with a sleeper @CATS44 maybe you may remember him....

with my 8th round pick...

SP Earl Moore with his 1903 stats... 20-8, 1.74 ERA, 2.38 FIP

in 247 innings, he did not give up a single HR... (different era, but still pretty legit)

Sounds like Moore had a bad foot injury in 05, that cost him time... He was a starter, that sounds like he had a motion like Sandlin currently does...

@CBBI you are up with back to back picks!
