All-Time Indians RCF Fantasy Draft

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Well since we seem to be going pitcher, I will do so as well...

I will go with Starting Pitcher Addie Joss

Addie Joss was a command pitcher with a funky delivery, with a mix of Kevin Brown and a side arm style. Sadly his life was cut short at the age of 31 because of a bacterial infection. Now he was an early baseball pitcher so who knows how he would have done in today's era, but his numbers don't lie.

Career numbers, 160 wins to 97 losses. A career ERA of 1.89, FIP of 2.25 and WHIP of 0.968 in 2327 innings.

In 1908 Joss had an ERA of 1.16, FIP of 1.68, WHIP of 0.806 and an ERA+ of 204 in 325 innings with 130 SOs to 30 BBs.

@daddywags is now on the clock!

Just something to add to this, Addie Joss actually has the best WHIP in the history of baseball among qualified players at 0.968. He pitched pre-Ruth, so hard to say exactly how that would project, but just looking at his numbers against his peers back in the 1900s, you can see he was flat out dominant when he did play.

Only 30 walks in 325 innings in 1908. Insanity. Nice pick.

Damn, Joss was my pick. Good choice sportscoach! So now I fall back to two others and by a small margin I'll choose Stan Coveleski.

Second to Feller in Indians career WAR for pitchers including two of the top eight single season pitching WAR marks. Third in career complete games and shutouts (behind Feller and Joss). His best season was probably 1920 - 24-14 2.49 ERA, led the league in strikeouts, FIP and WHIP. Oh, yeah, he also went 3-0 with a shutout and an 0.67 ERA leading the Tribe to their first World Series title.

He was a spitball pitcher who was grandfathered in to continue using the pitch after it was outlawed by MLB. So, he would fit in well with all the shenanigans going on among pitchers today (I'm looking at you Astros).

Neat article about Joss as a journalist and sabermetrician:

We can always get someone to judge teams/decide on who is the winner if we wanna do that at the end. This either way sounds like a lot of fun, and I think all the important details are down, so lets find some more guys!

@Derek @AZ_ @EdMonix11 @Urban @Out of the Rafters at the Q @BimboColesHair @Kevalier @The Human Q-Tip @Steve_424 @BMAN any of you guys wanna be in/maybe judges at the end?

I think having a draft is a great idea, and would be nice fodder for discussion.

I also think having appointed judges is an absolutely terrible idea that would quickly go downhill, so I decline. But you guys are completely free to do that yourselves, and have other judges if you like. Just be aware that anyone who decides to participate in this is opening up themselves to potentially harsh criticism by others who don't like your pic,ks -- that's part of the territory, so posters shouldn't participate if their feelings are easily hurt.

Not that I actually want in, but if I were, I would have limited my selections to '88-today. Guys from my lifetime. Yeah, I know Addie Joss and Cy Young were great for their time, but without them actually having played in my lifetime, I'd be very meh in putting them on my squad.

Out. Currently on a European vacation and a little out of the loop. Seems like a cool idea to learn about past/old time players though.

Normally I would agree with you, but at the same time this is supposed to be fun and informative so I don’t mind going through and getting guys who aren’t in the modern era. Also I could name all the players worth drafting off the top of my head from 88 and on, and so could a lot of us here. Why limit the pool of players so badly when guys like Feller, Doby etc are available outside of that era who probably could have played in ever era.

I just said what I would do, not what anyone else should do.
