Andre Miller/Possibilities?

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Bibby is back in two weeks. I wait to see how he does and check on the asking price before I touch Miller. Yes, Miller would be an upgrade....Bibby would be a significant upgrade.

I have said this so many times its not funny.... But here goes.

Why so so many of you want so badly to take the ball out of Lebron James hands? There are only maybe 10 players in the entire game I would take Lebron James off the ball for. Lebron is averaging a triple double the past four or five games. He is one of the greatest playmakers in the game, a big part of his game is being a passer.

I don't want the ball out of Lebron's hands. I want the ball out of Larry's hands, Gibsons hands, Jones hands. Lebron gets his assists through his court vision and just finding guys when he makes his move, but he isn't running sets. He isn't running plays.

I also think it is a bad thing to have your best scorer and your best playmaker be the same player. Lebron can't set himself up for easy baskets. He has to work hard. Just because he is incredible at it doesn't mean it is the best thing for the team. Miller would ease the load for Lebron.

Newble gives them an extra 3 million off there cap for next summer

It works out to be even more because of the 25%+100k rule. We can save them almost $6m next off-season, but Miami can save them more by offering Jason Williams.

Of course taking on extra salary would push us even more in to the luxury tax, so while it may be perfectly doable, Ferry may still not want to do it.

I would tend to disagree, Lebron may not run sets, but he does facilitate the offense Just like Mike did in Chi, Larry did in Bos and KG Min/Bos. Lebron is the high scoring PG everyone wants. We would do just as well if not better with another shooter/scorer who can defend and handle the ball a little. A James Worthy or Pippen, not necessarily just a PG.

There are very few PG's we could add who improve our team offensively and defensively; but there are several guards and forwards who would.

I would like to see us continue to run everything through Lebron, just pair him with any player who demands a double and defends.

Guys like Miller, Boykins and some others that have been mentioned here. Those are solid guys, they would be great running the second unit.

We need to get the best Guard or Foward that we can get, period. LBJ should have the ball in his hands until the defense makes him give it up. Then he should be getting the ball to capable guys.

We need to stop thinking Boykins, Miller and Scola, and start thinking Iguadala, Brand, Okafor, etc.

We can package up our expirings with AV if he doesnt come back and get a real player in return. Not Dre Miller. :puke:

We dont need over the hill players with bad contracts, we have several of those already. We need to make a deal for a real player using our expiring bad contracts.

I don't advocate getting the ball out of Lebron's hands, but we need more facilitators. Last night, at one point while lebron was resting, we had E. Snow, Newble, and Damon Jones all in at the same time. We had no chance on those offensive possesions. However, IMO, put Miller in w/ Sasha, Z, and Boobie, and we have someone who can open up passing lanes to get these guys shots. That's an improvement.

I too want Elton Brand, Iggy, etc. And I still think that is the plan, maybe as early as this offseason. (If Brand opts out, and we make a move for him, we potentially have 2 PFs we could send back in a S&T). That is the beauty of Miller. Yes he is old, but his contract actually puts us in even better shape w/ 2009 expirings. If we got him for Ira and Damon, we would have ~$30M in expirings in '09, so he doesn't really affect us (besides this yr).

Miller was a very consistant player, but that is expected to come to an end in the near future. He might recover and start playing at his past level again later in this season once he gets into rhythm. He might not.

In the last 5 games since this ignorant discussion Andre Miller has played, well like Andre Miller. 17 points, 6.5 assists and 4 rebounds while shooting a healthy 50%.

I'd call him a decent backup PG.

I was going to make essentially the same point, Ben, after checking his stats out yesterday. He doesn't look to me like he's slipped at all, at least offensively. A two-for-one trade would also create a roster spot for another big. I'm beginning to worry that the minutes are starting to catch up with Z. I can't figure out why Brown doesn't play Dw. Jones to rest Z, but if he's that bad then sign a Dale Davis or Vitaly Potapenko and let them take minutes behind Z.

Andre isn't a three point threat but he can hit a jumpshot, not to mention he can post up a little and rebounds well for a PG. His rebounding ability and passing ability should lead to easy fastbreaks, because with his court vision he'll make the quick outlet or take it down the middle and then pass the ball.

Bringing back Andre Miller, and then signing Vitaly would be hilarious. They would have to change their throw back jerseys to those atrocious sky blue and black ones. It would be full circle.

makes me wonder who would be the all Cavs team in those uhm sweet uniforms?

PG Andre Miller
SG Derek Anderson
SF Chris Mills
PF Tyrone Hill
C Z

man the things Z has lived thru in his life as a Cavalier

Andre has always been a slow starter. He was on the trading block in Denver for showing up out of shape, but soon became top 3 in the league in assists before Philly acquired him. BTW: Philly was thought to have traded Iverson to throw the season and get a high draft pick, but they ended up winning a ton of games at the end of the year and nearly snuck into the 8th seed. Miller had a lot to do with that.

Again, his age remains a major concern. Guards who play themselves into shape, are undersized, and have no range on their jump shot have a very short self life in the NBA. Ask Nick Van Exel and Eric Snow. Bibby might be out of shape and undersized, but at least he can rely on that shooting range.

Don't give up any young talent, and I'd pull the trigger before the trade deadline.

I'm still hoping for Bibby.. Now with Varejao under the belt -- hopefully -- you think Gooden will now probably be moved for Bibby not that his value is skyhigh?

As far as Miller goes, here's my problem with him...

With the player that LeBron is and will become and with the current offensive system that we have in place, an Andre Miller-type PG doesn't really do much for us or the team...

Now obviously Miller is no doubt an upgrade over anything we have as far as a PG goes and is still a very good player but he's not a fit for what we do...

LeBron is either running/handling the ball the majority of the time in the offense... Getting a prolific scorer at the PG spot is what we should be focusing on... I don't care if he can run an offense, I don't care if he gets 8+ assists per night, etc.. What we need at the PG spot is a shooter and scorer...

We don't need a guy who can set up LeBron because with the way that we run the offense, all we need is someone who can bring the ball up court and run the offense, nothing more (now obviously it'd be nice to have someone to 'set-up' LeBron but I'll take a better shooter over a 'true' PG everyday of the week)... We aren't required to have a 'true' PG like a Phoenix Sun-type offense...

This is why I don't see Miller as someone who could really take us to where we want to be... Miller is a good PG and would probably help our team, but not to the point where we would be championship contenders in getting him...

And this is why I think guys like Mike Bibby, Ben Gordon, Jason Terry and Daniel Gibson, in a sense, are great fits because they do exactly what we need them to do: shoot, score 15+ a night, be able to handle decently and defend decently... We don't need a 25+ scorer; sure it'd be nice but any type of threat on the perimeter to take pressure off of LeBron would be a welcomed addition...

The thing about Miller is that he needs the ball to be in his hands to be effective, while guys like Terry, Gordon, Gibson, Bibby and maybe even so Kidd, don't need the ball to be effective... A lot of the time LeBron will handle the ball, so we need someone who can play off the ball, thus why Miller isn't such a good fit...

Right now dealing for someone who necessarily isn't the best fit for this team isn't too smart when someone who is a great fit will be available soon...

Now if a guy like Jason Kidd becomes available, you obviously go get him even though he's not a dead-eye shooter he's a capable one compared to Miller (Kidd has a eFG% of 42 on jumpers, while Miller has a eFG% on jumpers of 38)...

What we need most is a scorer and a threat, not someone to only cripple our offense even more... A Larry Hughes and Andre Miller backcourt isn't something I want to ever see...

Yep, my thoughts exactly.

Just because Andre is better than what we have, it doesnt make him a good fit.

You guys are incorrect about Bibby... he's supposedly out until late January at the earliest.

"Mike Bibby is progressing on schedule and is still targeting a late-January return from a torn ligament in his left thumb.
When asked whether he might push up his return, Bibby replied, "No, I don't want to re-hurt it and sit out another six weeks. It's killing me (not to play)."
