After considering returning to Europe, the '06 #1 pick Bargnani looks to be signing with the Kings for most likely the get minimum.... As the Kings are no longer under the cap.

At over 7' tall, this guy would be a perfect stretch big off the bench for the Cavs. He averaged close to 15 points and made around 10 million last year for the Knicks. To be able to add him at such a great value.... I'm surprised not to hear/see any Cavs interest... He is a legitimate offensive weapon and upgrade off the bench.

Now I'm not saying he's a player on par with what were expecting with the Haywood chip. I'm talking about a vet minimum signing of a versatile 7 footer who can play both forward and center who can stretch the floor and score the basketball.

Thoughts?

Horrendous defender. Terrible rebounder for being seven foot tall. Really soft inside.

Good jumpshooting big man though. He posted splits of .454/.366/.813 last season as one of the main features (lol) of the Knicks garbage offense.

He's also injured a lot though, dealing with left elbow ligament issues and calf sprains over his two seasons with the Knicks along with other injuries in his final two seasons with the Raptors. The last four seasons, he's only played in 31, 35, 42, and 29 games respectively.

He'll be 30 before the season, and I don't think the Cavs have a major need for a one trick pony big man that is comparable to Anderson Varejao in durability. Plus I don't want poor Austin Carr to have a seizure every time he has to say his name.

He did play for Blatt one season with Treviso, so I would trust Blatt's judgement on his fit should the Cavs go that direction. He doesn't overly excite me, but vet min contracts generally won't. He would provide a floor stretching big man to back up Love, something the Cavs bench currently lacks. However, he is said to be in advanced discussions with the Knicks.

For Cap reference anyway, if anyone cares.

Even if you added Caron Butler to that list at 2 year/3 Million so we're still under the cap by a very tiny little bit (1.5 Million I believe) as Ray McCallum is no longer on the roster, and I highly dislike the Bargnani signing if it is agreed upon, but I'll deal with it if its for 4th big minutes. Probably will die of laughter/fright watching his defense for 10-12 minutes a game.

You guys are in a whole different situation than we are, I'd say he'd be a good floor spacer but I wouldn't trust him on defense at all and his motivation is in question, again in my opinion.

The Nets got him.

Amazing that there was actually a bidding war between Sacramento and Brooklyn for Bargs, Sacramento outbid Brooklyn, but Brooklyn got him anyway.

Taking the least amount of money that was offered isn't exactly a bidding war.

It was like a bidding war in reverse. Team that offers Bargs less has to take him!

The other funny thing is that it was reported Bargnani preferred the situation in Brooklyn over Sacramento (which is probably true, since how could it possibly be worse than it seems to be in Sacramento at the moment), but you know I suspect the fact he gets to stay in New York City rather than relocate to Sacramento may have had something to do with it too, and I mean no offense to Sacramento (which I say in part because I see that King fans are in this thread).
