Anthony Bennett

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
It's strange to think about it, but Darko Milicic was actually miles better than Bennett is.

Even Kwame Brown was better. Bennett may legitimately be the worst #1 draft pick of all time.

Kwame is hated on, but he was actually a legitimately serviceable backup big man. If he was even drafted in the second half of the first round, most people would say he's had a solid career as an NBA pro. He's only considered a bust because of where he was picked at. With Bennett though, you can say he's a bust regardless of the draft position.

Michael Olowokandi still exists. :chuckle:

Dude was a 7 footer shooting like 42-43% from the field, they're both up there for biggest bust of all time.

Olowakandi hung on long enough to start 393 games in his career, play in 500, and average an 11/9 in two different seasons.

Anthony Bennett appeared in 152 games in and only started a grand total of 4 games. He had a whopping 4 double-doubles in his entire career. Olowakandi had 24 in the '01-'02 season alone.

You guys remember that time AB scored 20 points in a game? He did it one single time in his career. A former #1 overall pick, who wasn't known for his defense or rebounding, managed to eclipse 20 points one single time in his entire NBA career.

Easily the worst #1 pick of any sport in my lifetime.

My favorite memories are the big game he had against the Kings I believe and then the next summer league when he picked up 8 fouls in a game...

Anthony Bennett was born to work at Carmax or Olive Garden....This charade needs to end....

Remember when we were trying to trade for Love, and there were people saying "we should hold out because Bennett and Waiters will be worth more at the deadline?"

Poster children for validating that young players are just as likely to lose value as gain it.

There a section in his interview where he reminiscences about the time he stopped playing but then started back up as he got a bit fat and he was better than the others without trying

Was he talking about when he was in 2nd grade or something?

We were banking on the "LeBron effect" lol

I knew he must have been worse than Candy Man. I was going yo say he never had a single good game, but he scored 20 once, so I'll give him that. I cam live with the waiters pick because he has several NBA level skills and good athleticism, but man Bennett was just bad bad scouting. His 2nd jump was his best skill. I think Rchfld said he would replace Tristan as starting pf by the end of his rookie year haha

If i remember correctly, he scored a lot of those baskets consecutively. He had like 14 in one quarter, i believe.

Not sure what went wrong with this kid. I remember watching his college highlight reel feeling damn giddy. He honestly looked like he had all the skills for a big that are the hardest to develop. Good footwork, good dribble drive, and sneaky athleticism.

Yep. Olowokandi isn't even close to being the biggest bust of all time. Dude was a quality backup picked at the #1 spot.

Anthony Bennett might have been worse than LaRue Martin, who was often considered the worst player taken #1 overall. LaRue also played parts of four seasons and averaged 5.3 and 4.4, which beat Bennett's 4.4 and 3.1. Bennett had a higher shooting percentage (.427 vs. .416), but LaRue blocked 0.5 shots per game and played more minutes (14.0 vs 12.6).

LaRue's claim to fame was playing well against Bill Walton in college for one game. So Portland drafted him directly ahead of Bob McAdoo, starting the most infamous draft pattern in history (took Sam Bowie directly ahead of Jordan, Greg Oden directly ahead of Kevin Durant).

IMHO Bennett is the winner, but LaRue will always be the Captain of the Fail Blazers.
