Any bowlers at RCF?

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I bowl and I could kick just about anyone's ass

I've been bowling since I was about 4, family acutally owns a few bowling allies. Used to own Eastgate Lanes in Toledo and a few more in Columbus after moving out of the Cleveland area

I've always been partial to the Chaos line of bowling balls from Columbia, best balls I've ever thrown :chuckles:

I throw the black one and haven't had to buy a new ball in over a decade

These days the closest ball that Columbia makes to the Chaos is the Engima, which is what I'd pick up if I were buying a new ball

If you want one that is half way decent and won't cost too much this one isn't bad either

I tend to stick with the balls that are dull cover stocks instead of resin or poly-coated

I also like a finger tip grip drilled and a tear drop thumb plug with the flare bock dot at around 9 o'clock setting when holding like I'm going to throw

Side Note:
Also talking about bowling balls sounds unreasonably dirty after going back and re-reading the whole thing

I've always wanted to own a ally. That's awesome that your family owns one and you can bowl just about whenever you want for no fee. I grew up at my main bowling alley so I get discounts and often just bowl for free because I know everybody.

Since we're on the subject of bowling balls, I own three.

First bowl I ever bought was a few years back when I got the Jigsaw made by Hammer:
Linkage

I've shot some good games with this ball, I call it my baby considering it was my first ball. Average went from 178 to 196 after I worked with this thing for a few months in the summer about 4-5 years back.

Second ball I bought was a storm gravity, but I hated that ball. I bought it for around $190 and I used it two weeks and won a few jackpots to pay it off and ended up selling it for 10 Four Lokos, yes 10 Four Lokos, to my buddy.

But in my bag besides the Jigsaw is yet another storm ball, this one the Nano:
Linkagel

Definitely bought into all the hype, and it came through. Shot my first ever 700 series with it 2 years ago(725), and then followed up last year with my highest series ever at 770 with this ball. However, the ball seemingly has lost it's touch no matter how many times I dump it in the hot water.

Last but not least, my newest ball and my current favorite is the Nexxus made by Brunswick:
Linkage

This ball has so far taken my average from 197 to a 220. Its pretty dirty, the movement and the pin action it creates is fantastic. Guy at my local pro shop said they recently stashed some rare Nexxxus(triple X) bowling balls that were released and mentioned how much more hook and back end it has on it. I'll probably end up buying one from him sooner or later.

Also about kicking anyone's ass.. I'm game. Time and place.. :chuckles:

^^^

It was unreal having a place like that to go and hangout at while growing up that wasn't the normal trouble maker kid stuff

My grandfather was heavily invovled with the PBA..Bowled in the first PBA event back in 1959 in White Plains, NY... He actaully ran a certian section of the PBA for long time, got inducted to the PBA Hall of Fame back in 1991 iirc ( I was about 10 at that time)

My Gpa lived in Cleveland for a long time, used to teach lessons at the bowling alley that was around the Sinclair area back in the 50's. Him, another guy from Akron named Eddie Elias and about 50 - 60 others are a huge reason the PBA got started and stayed viable. The headquarters for the PBA was acutally in Akron for a decent amount of time

Through the years I've met and bowled with the Both Dick and Pete Weber, Walter Ray, Chirs Hook, Voss and many others. Dick Weber used to call my grandfather and leave messages on his machine with accents based off of the country he was in, hilarous, the best was the Australain accent.

Back to the topico f bowling balls

I was never a fan of storm balls either, I've a got a Blue Thunder that just didn't break the way it was supposed to because it didn't get enough revs through out the first 3rd of the lane, poly cover stock issue. I pretty much did the same thing with the storm that you did with your gravity..except my friend gave my storm back to me a couple years later.

I used to love the dull cover stock Zone's until I picked up the Chaos I've got. I got the Chaos from my uncle and never had it drilled for my hand or span. I've carried around a 210 since about the age of 16 with that Chaos and haven't had a problem with the ball in over 10+ years.

Haven't had a chance to get into many leagues over the last few years because of the work schedule, which I'm hoping is about to change because I miss the leagues.

If you pick up that Nexxxus you should have them drill it to hold a little longer than normal and snap on the backend. I've found that if you get balls drilled like that the impact of the snap seems to deliver more force and create more pin action since the ball is going through more revs before the snap.

I'm always down for a game so if you're ever coming through Columbus on a weekend send me a PM and will go throw a few.

My favorite bowler who I've always watched and studied was Chris Barnes.

Funny story, a buddy of mine bowled for the PBA for a little and he knew how much I loved Barnes and he always would fix my bowling balls when need be. He had a autograph photo with Walter and Barnes and I was jealous beyond belief. He knew it for awhile and one day gave Barnes a call and had him autograph a photo for me and send his best wishes. Was amazing, because a few years back I was just getting back into the swing of bowling and thought that was awesome.

On the bowling ball subject: Storm has fallen off.. I enjoy hammer and what they have to offer.

I usually get my bowling balls drilled so they hook more than I can control, because I know I can figure it out sooner or later. But that wasn't the case tonight in leagues.

Tonight I tossed the nexxus and really didn't have much control. I left only two open frames all night(both 10's), and about 14 or so 10 pins out there. Ended up with a meh series at 667, but I'll take it considering I definitely didn't feel it tonight.

After hours I tossed a few games with my teammate who is going to Vegas to bowl in a tournament and needed to work on a few things.. I tossed the Jigsaw hammer and was dominating. Wasn't even fair. Sadly I didn't use it tonight and that may have cost me at least $50 dollars or so in brackets. It is what it is.

I have a buddy that lives in Columbus and I told him I'd visit sooner or later, so that may be possible.

^^

I've met and bowled with Barnes, he's a cool dude and that was pretty awesome of your friend to do that imo.

I'll have to take a look at the Hammer's when I start looking at balls again

I don't usually have problems with control, my issue is keeping the same release point depending on the style I'm using.

If I could have the same release point I would dominate. :chuckles:

Its usually never the same, but once in awhile I get into that groove where I can't miss and I'll toss 7-8 in a row before getting raped by a 10 pin.

Hammer has a good product of bowling balls.. Jigsaw has, and always will be my favorite.

I bowl in a league too once a week. My average is about 178. My best is 265

Welp, bowled a craptastic 464. Started off hitting the headpin straight on every time. Next game started off great, three strikes then two spares then fell off after that. Couldn't hit anything in the third. Really need some consistency, but, first time bowling in probably 6 months or so.

Get my new ball tonight :)

Feel like I need to mention again, Hammer is a really good option for anybody wanting to buy a bowling ball.

Last night subbed for a buddy and used my hammer jigsaw, first game 232 and second game went front 10 before going high and leaving a 4 pin for a 289.

Ball is definitely still alive and kicking for me.

Ehh.. I'm not a fan of the DV8's.

My buddy has one and he keeps telling me "I'm not throwing it right", but he averages 220 with every other ball he picks up.

I'm guessing you didn't get it drilled yet.. Depends on who drills it for you. I'd have the guy at the pro shop watch you toss a few down the lanes before he drilled it for you.

Eh, seemed to be the ball with the best reviews on bowlingball.com in that price range, that's pretty much all I based it on.

RE drilling, this is what kinda makes me nervous. I don't even know how to bowl with my thumb so I'm going to be changing my whole style with this new ball...so idk how they are going to drill it to fit my style if I don't have a style.

But I did hear some great things about the pro shop at 77 Colonial Lanes in Belden Village so hopefully they can help me out.

I think I'm going to get a different color. Friggin buyer's remorse I swear. Or would you recommend a different ball in that price range?
