Any poker players around?

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
It's been years since I played regularly. Last summer I played a couple of times, small home games. Busted out of the tournaments and made the money back playing 1/2 afterwards. Just fucking around though. I used to do ok. I always preferred PLO and the HORSE games to NLHE though. PLO can get out of hand. I remember many years ago I took down a $1,700 pot in a little 1/2 home game with a straight flush over two full houses. I used to love when NLHE players would sit down just to try the game out. It's not nearly as hard to fold a boat in Omaha as it is in Hold Em, but they couldn't do it. I assume the overall play is a bit better these days though.

These cards are beautiful!

I just ordered a set:

I spent far too much of my time and my money in Atlantic City poker rooms. Had some great nights and had some of the worst night of my life.

I used to play a lot but lost interest once black friday hit. Live poker is just so slow and time consuming.

When the US had legal online options, it was doable, because you could play 100 hands at 4 tables in 30 minutes or so.....spend 8-10 hours a week and it was a decent side hustle.

Once legal gambling starts to kick off again, I'm sure I'll get back in to it but for now I've been on ice. Still love watching live poker and following results but I just can't bring myself to sit in card rooms anymore.

What were your earnings like playing online 4-tabling? You found it was more profitable than playing live games? My experience was the exact opposite, and I mean, massively.. I've always wondered how players earned reasonable amounts from purely online play...

The idea is a rather simple one, that over time, premium hands & disciplined play will win.....so if you play ALOT of hands, you start to remove a bit of the luck quotient.

Playing live, having AA or KK cracked can be devastating.....because you sometimes waited 4-5 hours for that hand. Online, at 4+ tables....you can get that hand 2-3 times per hour. Similarly, you can also get QQ, AK, 4-6x as much etc....

So, it's really just more an exercise in being disciplined.....and one undersold point of playing multi table is that it's actually FAR easier to make the correct lay downs. You feel less pressure to chase a hand because you're seeing so many.

I don't disagree that some live games can be pretty profitable but they aren't on demand. Online, you can employ a disciplined, multi table strategy any time of the day and grind out a good profit.

I was mainly playing $.50-1.00 NL.....I'd sit at each table with $100.....that was about the max I could stomach (laying around $400 at all times) and I'd consistently be in the $25 an hour range. Many of my friends who have gotten in to poker professionally are insane.....playing 10-12 tables at a time. But you see the math there.....guys can scratch out 50-75$ an hour playing cards. You aren't always going to have winning sessions but disciplined 10 table play, 50 hours a week, can net you $150-200k a year depending on luck swings.

Again, it's a absolute job to play that way.....so if your aim is more to get relaxation or release out of poker, multi table online is not really the way to go. But many people make a really good living at it. Especially at lower limits online, as that is where most amateurs hover. At higher limits, I always did single table, as it just needed more attention with the skill level of players being so much better.

I was 12 tabling 18 person sitngos before Black Friday hit, I found that I was probably best around the 4-6 table mark.

I’ve seen so many hands it’s insane.

I’ve had my scores and taken it on the chin hard

I’m a super solid player, but sometimes get too aggressive and trigger happy. If I eliminated that and the itch to chase pots, I’d be dominant. I’ve lost a lot of money tho because of the ladder.

Saturday Nov. 16 (1a) 17 (1b) and 18th (day two) the jack has a $500 $75k GTD I’ll probably play. Been on a couple month break due to Omaha eating my cash. I have a gambling addiction and think taking time off between playing is my best bet. I’ve won tournaments. Finished 8th in a 200k three months back in global poker for 3k. I’ve played a lot of tournaments at the jack and generally play the 20k at the end of each month. Finished 16th and 18th in a three month span but haven’t been back since. It’s a great game and there’s always room for improvement. Plus the game just keeps evolving

You playing online?

Damn, I used to be pretty solid at poker but I wanted to quit losing money so I stopped going to the casinos here in Columbus which made me lose my grasp a bit.

I used to be pretty damn good though. All of those older guys in there would see me walking in while I was in my early 20s and would write me off and I would slaughter them. I'm not that good anymore, so I probably couldn't do that, but I was damn solid in my day. Was learning on how to count cards which is a shithole's way to play, but that's beside the point.

What do you mean by counting cards? I've not heard that in a poker sense before.

So what's a good online site for myself in Ohio?

I keep trying to do poker night with friends but nobody really knows how to play well so it's not fun.

Haha...ehh if I was in it for the money it would be. I just want to have fun. And no one would do more than like a five dollar buy-in anyways.

We did play for shits and giggles during Friendsgiving and I cleaned up the table of six in about a half hour...

But when you constantly have to explain what a big blind is, and say "No you don't need to fold, you can check"...it gets old.

Plus it's almost impossible to read people or think about strategy (What did that check mean? What do they have?) when they don't know WTF they are doing.
